25.01.2022 Women who love. Women who lift. Women who see the light, the good. Women in the spotlight and women who stand beside and cheer and hold and laugh and cry. Who feel deeply and are brave, who are shy and quiet, who hold back and protect, who wear their heart on their sleeve.... Every woman. I stand with you today. 24.01.2022 La la la la!!! We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing - someone amazing. Shifting stuckness with some play today after practice. Have you had a play today?

24.01.2022 It's good to be home. As beautiful as Bali is, and as wonderful as our group were, we all felt like it was time to be home. I've had a chance to say hello to my husband, and two of my three boys. Our bedroom is my isolation space and I've spent the last few hours making it as comfy as it can be, given it a clean, fresh sheets and towels, put away any clutter. I'm creating space in this space for me to be. After today, we'll take the kids out of school and they'll be home ...with me. The kids and I distancing from my Husband so he can continue to work. I'm not going to pretend that I'm grateful for this extra time and space. I'm not there yet. At the moment, I'm anxious and nervous about how this will go, what it will look like. I'm realising the same needs to be done in my heart and mind. It needs a decluttering. A dusting. The loss of income from me not being able to work is weighing heavy on my shoulders, I'm currently trying to work out what, if anything, I can do to get offerings online. Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in...? But for now, I'm just going to sit here for a bit. Breathe. See more

24.01.2022 This morning I watched Brene Browns TED Talk on The Power of Vulnerability... Again. Honestly, everytime I watch it, I hear something new and amazing. So I'm setting up the space for you and working out when the house will be quiet (with three very active little boys home 24/7, this is a challenge). I'm going to be using this platform (Instagram) and going Live with the ability for you to play back the class for 24hrs after the offering is delivered. ... Like I said in a previous post, these offering are donation based, if you practice and love it and are in a position to pay for your class, I'll pop my PayPal details in my Bio. If however, like me, you've found yourself out of the majority of, or all of your work, then enjoy the class for free. From my home to yours. _____ #yoga #melbourneyoga #melbournelovesyoga #thisisyoga #yogaforeverybody #yogalover #prenatalyoga #yogapractice #everybodycandoyoga #tunein #yin #balance #meditation #spiritual #iapproveofme #thisisme #authentic #perfect #selfcare #victoria #isolation #play #transitions #love #instagood #photooftheday #covid-19 #yogaonline

22.01.2022 I miss you. I miss hearing your footsteps walking up the path and into the door. I miss watching you navigate around each other as you take off your shoes. I miss the excited embraces when you see someone you love to practice with, I even miss the awkward shuffle when you're new and aren't quite sure how it all works yet. I miss not getting to smile at you, look into your eyes and feel your energy when you come and say hello to sign in. ... I miss the little conversations, hearing about how toilet training your 3yr old is going, getting excited with you about opening your new businesses, I miss hearing about your aging parents and new puppies. And I miss sharing my life with you too. I miss your voice. I miss the preparation rituals, all the things I did to ensure you were held in a space that had been cleansed, warmed up and smelling, sounding, feeling wonderful. I miss our shared rituals of preparation before practice. All the things we did together, mostly unconsciously. I miss the groans and sighs, the giggles and exasperated looks. I miss the giant smiles at the end of practice as you prepare to head back out into the big wide world, hearts open, minds a little clearer, vibes high. I've always loved these little things and found them to be hugely valuable in creating a safe and supportive connection with you. I believe the teacher/student relationship can impact hugely on our relationship with practice, body, breath... Teaching virtually is just highlighting how important these little things are to me, how they enrich not just my teaching, but my life. Please hear me, I'm grateful that technology has made it possible for us to still share practice... I am. But I guess I just miss you, and I wanted to let you know. See more

22.01.2022 We are in a huge period of transition. I'm with you. We (the kids, my Husband and I), came over to WA to visit my Dad. We were prepared for, and brought enough stuff for about 3 weeks. Soon after we arrived, my Dad passed away, so we decided we'd stay for a little longer, spend time with family, see if the situation in Melbourne settled a little and then Melbourne was put into stage 4 lockdown. ... We've been in Perth for 6 weeks now, and will be here for at least 6 more. And as wonderful as Perth is, and as #grateful as I am to be here, Perth is not home for me anymore. I feel like I'm bracing myself, and sometimes I find myself holding my breath. Both literally and figuratively. Sometimes when I'm practicing Asana, (yoga shapes) and I'm challenged with a transition from one strong shape to another, from one challenge to another, I find myself involuntarily holding my breath. Like I'm bracing myself. In these moments, I need to focus on diaphragmatic breathing which enables us to down regulate the sympathetic (fight/flight) nervous system, which then causes the parasympathetic (rest/digest) nervous system to become dominant. Shallow breathing, breath holding and hyper-ventilating triggers the sympathetic nervous system, in a "fight or flight" response. So, until I activate my Drishti and become consciously and single mindedly aware of how I am transitioning, with the breath and body in harmony, in unity - I can quickly be caught up in, and mindlessly transitioned from my parasympathetic nervous system to my sympathetic nervous system. From freedom in movement and breath to bracing and holding breath. The same way we move through transitions on our mat with breath focus, we can engage and move through transitions off our mat. Even in moments of utter fucked-uppery like lock-down, displacement and grief. This is the challenge. If you feel the bracing too, the holding... Can I encourage you to consciously exhale with me today? I miss you. I love you. Yes, you. #asana #bliss #bodypositive #devotion #namaste #strength #surrender #thisisyoga #vinyasa #yoga #yogaforeverybody #everybodycandoyoga #balance #meditation #spiritual #melbourneyoga

21.01.2022 'Let a little love in' - our theme for class tomorrow morning 8am with @purehotyogabayswater See you then lovelies

21.01.2022 Practice practice practice. Roll out a mat, or a towel or grass, carpet... Whatever. Just move your body. You don't even have to use yoga shapes, people make up new yoga shapes all the time, make some up of your own. Move how your body wants to move, listen to it, stumble, fall, get up and go again - that's what I do, and it works, it helps me feel, to breathe, to be kind.

21.01.2022 Lock it in before EARLY BIRD CLOSES TODAY You know you want to and we would love to host you Don't miss this, spaces very limited

21.01.2022 Free Tonight? At 7.30pm AEST for a half hour grounding flow? I'll be on Instagram Live. This is a trial class to check out how the platform works, how the lighting goes, sound quality etc so I'm super keen and open for your feedback. I'm this close to popping up a timetable so we can regularly check in so stay turned. I'll make sure (if I can work out how) to leave the vid up for the 24 hrs so if you're not free at 7.30pm tonight, you can practice at your convenience.

20.01.2022 Dear Yoga Teachers, Thank you for offering Yogic practices to help your students maintain their practice during this time even though you may feel like your world is falling apart. Thank you for doing all you can to help uplift the community while life is feeling unpredictable and scary - even for you. I can see you truly practicing what you have taught in your classes, strength, flexibility, gratitude ... Those who had vision boards, dreams and goals for this year, who had desired to build, to branch out, to expand Teachers who have been putting themselves out there again and again, who have just landed their first teaching gig after investing thousands of dollars and hours in training and practice. Teachers who are attempting to move their offering to be available online with all its complexities, tackling several new platforms and technological challenges. Studios who are pillars in our community, where we all come to breathe, move, heal be seen. You have taken a massive hit - not just financially, but as important spaces for community to gather physically, socially, mentally and emotionally. I've seen how you've held your teachers mental and emotional health in the forefront while being sensitive to their financial situations as well. I've seen you put your brave on, pull on your boots, knuckle down, do things you never thought you would, or wanted to do. And not for you, but for your students. Together, we're doing all of this while feeling, breathing, and moving through our own fear and grief, the loss of what we thought this year would be... But here ywe are. Standing. We are strong. We are resilient. We're doing it. You're incredible, and I'm so proud to stand alongside you. Tag a teacher/studio you love. Let them know you see them, you appreciate them. ______ #yoga #melbourneyoga #melbournelovesyoga #thisisyoga #yogaforeverybody #yogalover #prenatal #prenatalyoga #yogapractice #everybodycandoyoga #tunein #yin #balance #meditation #spiritual #iapproveofme #thisisme #authentic #perfect #selfcare #victoria #isolation #play #transitions #love #instagood #photooftheday #yogaonline

19.01.2022 Have you heard the term Gaslight Worker? ___ I heard it for the first time this morning... It's someone who works in a healing modality (therapists, counselors, social workers, YOGA TEACHERS... YEP) but who hasn't worked on their own healing. ___ I'm still processing this term, the ramifications, how it manifests - but I'll tell you, it resonates with me. I've experienced professionals who have held me/students to a standard, to a level of spiritual accountability that they ...themselves are not holding, and it's painful and confusing. ___ It's so, so important that we as teachers, as guides, as people who stand in front of others and lead, do so with authenticity, kindness and compassion - and most of all, leave the measuring sticks at home. ___ I am flawed and everyday working on my recovery, on my stuff, so I don't project it onto you and I stand open to your feedback always. You know we're all in recovery, there's an aspect of all of us that's a mess, and if we say there's not, I truly believe we are avoiding, in denial or deeply entrenched in the culture of toxic positivity. It's a gift of the human condition. Delightfully complex, a stunning mess and beautifully layered. ___ #yoga #melbourneyoga #melbournelovesyoga #iloveyoga #yogainspiration #yogaforeverybody #yogalover #gaslight #yogapractice #everybodycandoyoga #tunein #yin #balance #meditation #spiritual #iapproveofme #thisisme #authentic #perfect #retreat #selfcare #victoria #yourbodyretreat #retreat #curious See more

18.01.2022 When will I get to see you this week?

18.01.2022 We're a complex bunch aren't we? Which is why these are the books I read over and over to ensure that I am #1 doing no harm and #2 sharing from a place of research over opinion or dogma. I recognise the honour and privilege it is to have the attention of a room of people for a whole hour, completely uninterrupted and without the usual distractions. I take the responsibility of being informed and up to date with current research on the effects, not just of yoga, but of word...s, touch and how to navigate power dynamics in the teacher/student relationship - very seriously. These are the top 20% of books that I have on rotation but I'm open and keen for suggestions... There's one from the pile that's out on loan that would be on top - Yoga and Body Image by Melanie Klein. See more

18.01.2022 I had my Bible in my lap this morning in my meditation and prayer time. I was praying for you, for me, my mantra was one you may know; Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu - The translation of the text is:May all beings be happy and free. I opened up my Bible to this text in the book of Jeremiah, who was a Prophet, a seer, here he is writing to give hope to the people of Israel and I drew hope from it too. I hope you can draw hope from it too. 17.01.2022 Because perfection is boring

17.01.2022 Anjaneyasana (Crescent Moon Shape) gets its name after Lord Hanuman's mother named Anjani. Another name for Hanuman in the Hindu culture is ‘Anjaneya’. Lord Hanuman is referred to as the mighty God with boundless power and strength, and this pose brings in the same kind of power and strength when practiced the right way. Crescent Moon Shape Benefits: Stimulates the Thyroid Gland. A heart opener which improves blood circulation along with breathing.... A deep stretch to the spine improves the flexibility. Stimulates the internal organs at the abdomen. Builds better energy within the body. Improves flexibility around the shoulders and neck. Improves the balance with awareness of the body. Flexes the hips and the lower back. Can heal or decrease sciatic pain. One of my favourite shapes, I feel strong in my legs and an unfurling in my heart.

16.01.2022 All of us, always.

15.01.2022 Family comes first. And right now for me, that means I step away from teaching and going to my home state of WA to be with my Dad and my family over there. It's a gift that we've been given this time. I'm conscious that so often, we don't get a warning that important people will depart from this place to the next, but we have graciously been given this time and I intend to make full use of it. ... Let's keep in touch and know that I will most certainly be back with you in studio when I can. I love you.

15.01.2022 Sirsasana - Headstand I think it's been over a year since I came into this shape, my body seems to be asking for softer inversions lately but here we are. And as I always say, 'If you only have time for one Asana a day, let it be an inversion.' Physical Benefits... The very fact the the body is inverted gives room for better blood circulation to the brain and eyes. Helps to realign the vertebral column, thus correcting any minor postural defects. Puts pressure on the pituitary glands which helps to increase its efficiency, and in turn the efficiency of all other hormone-producing endocrine glands which are controlled by it. The weight of the abdominal organs on the diaphragm encourages deeper exhalation so that more carbon dioxide and other toxins are removed from the lungs. This asana stimulates the nervous system and strengthens the spine, shoulders and neck. Health Benefits Healing of diabetes. Prevention of asthma. Removes menopausal imbalances. Cure for headaches and migraine. Disorders with the nervous systems, reproductive system and glandular disorders. Solution for anxiety, stress and anger management.

15.01.2022 Proverbs 17:22 A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing. . Embracing joy actively doesn't mean I engage with the cultural push of toxic positivity, it means that I acknowledge the struggles, the challenges, AND I seek to find the funny bits, the lightness, the goofiness and the play. It doesn't have to be one or the other. .... We are complex and layered, when we become serious, dogmatic, one eyed and think that we are right and everyone and everything else is wrong, we only limit ourselves. . The universe will not be limited by you. God will not be limited by you. We want to be in line with the flow of nature, the flow of the universe, in line with our highest self, so we flow. We open up, we take the limits off. . Come play this week, you might land on your Arse-ana... 14.01.2022 Your Body Yoga Retreat Schedule.

14.01.2022 My practice is changing on the daily at the moment. Today I moved from a challenging personal practice into a gorgeous online Yin with my friend @nataschaflowers. Taking time today, my first day in over two weeks - sans children, to breathe, feel, move and just be. Grateful for the sunshine, the breeze, my home and you. How did you connect to you today?

14.01.2022 I made some time today to cleanse my home with Palo Santo and Sage. It's one of my favourite rituals that I practice about once a week. I do it the same day I clean my house and get up to date on all the things... Laundry, scheduling, bills. I spend Wednesday night at home, my husband goes to study and it's just me and the kids so having all the jobs done helps me be really present and available. Rituals create healthy rhythms for the mind. They're a comfort and self care f...or me. I find the earthy smells of sage and Palo Santo to be very grounding and centering. Do you cleanse? Do you have rituals? I'd love to hear about them See more

14.01.2022 Who's coming to this class?!?! HEART OPEN COURAGE FOUND COME AT ME

13.01.2022 As I prepare to return to in-person classes this week, I'm conscious that I have undergone significant change. The world feels different because it is, as am I, as are you. With the acknowledgement of these changes, I need to be conscious of my expectations of myself and others. The truth is, we don't know what our classes in person will feel like, look like, sound like. I'm deliberately and actively preparing my heart and mind to roll with all the excitement and even for mo...ments of disappointment. I can't wait to see you, to greet you, to gaze lovingly at you. To welcome you back to your home studio. To hold space for whatever comes. In return, I'm asking the same of you. We are forever students. Even though I stand in front of you and I share verbally, we all share, space, energy and witness each other. I'm asking that as I hold space for you, as I witness you and am gentle with your change, I'm humbly asking that you do the same for me. This is how we grow together and move through as one. With grace, with love, with ecstatic and unconditional positive regard. 11.01.2022 I don't have any words today. Just lots of emotion, and that's ok. Allowing all the feelings to roll, breathing through. Present, surrendering & hopeful.

11.01.2022 For our practice, you will need: your gorgeous body, a space to move, a bolster (or pillows/cushions) 2x blocks (or block shaped stable objects to support weight - lumps of wood/1ltr long life milk bottles/old encyclopaedia ). Optional tennis balls/Myo balls. Cant wait to see you later

11.01.2022 Ok. No more marketing. I'll post my schedule at the start of the week so you know where to find me, and that's it. 10.01.2022 It's arrived. Our Wild Goddess Sage Smudge from @the.smudge.co in time for our @thebaseyoga_berwick retreat next week. Get excited ladies... We have a glorious opening ceremony prepared for you.

10.01.2022 Morning Meditations give me life. My prayer this morning was the Shanti Matra, you may have heard of it as the Teacher Student Prayer, and it is, it's also a prayer or mantra recited before ceremony... It begins like this... OM SAHANA VAVATU ... (May God protect us, May God nourish us, May we work together and let our study be enlightening) This is the state I want to LIVE in, not just in a Yoga class, or in study... Always. There's a verse I've been sharing in my classes this week, it encourages us to first acknowledge that there is God, being open to the belief that there is God, gives God a way to reveal herself to us, to teach us, nourish us, connect us. This is my prayer today. May we be open together, may be experience revelation of God together, may we be nourished. Shanti. Shanti. Shanti. Peace. Peace. Peace. See more

10.01.2022 The day for lovers. How did you love today? Children, friends, strangers, significant others... Yourself? Sending love from my heart to yours.

09.01.2022 Free in the morning? Want to flow with me? Bookings via the MindBody app, casual class is just $12, you'll be sent a link for a Zoom meeting. Please book in 1/2 hr before class. Simples!

09.01.2022 Highlight so far. John 4:13-14 13 Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

09.01.2022 There's a lot of unknowns in offering yoga online... Which platform Do I use? Do I go live or record and share? Can I do both? How? Do I need a mic? A camera? Where in my house is suitable? What's it like to teach without music? (HALP!) And on and on. Sometimes the pressure to stay relevant, to keep up with the rest, to not be forgotten... to get online, feels a little intoxicating (not the good kind), and while I'm super keen and absolutely working on it, I'm feeling very e...xposed and vulnerable. For me, Yoga is about relationship. It's love. It's connection. I adore my students, I love seeing them, hearing how they are, checking in... I feel like I'm grieving the loss of that face to face connection and hope going online helps to restore some of that connection. I have to remember, I'm going online because I believe that Bhakti Yoga is my Yoga. Bhakti yoga, also called Bhakti marga, is a spiritual path or spiritual practice focused on loving devotion towards a personal God. My Bible says in Ephesians 4:16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is a Sanskrit phrase found in Hindu texts such as the Maha Upanishad, which means "the world is one family". Everyone has a part. Everyone has a message, a gift to share. So my sharing is a service for you, born out of devotion to my God. 08.01.2022 It's been a challenging day today. The photos, however, might tell a different story. I started my day power playing and work-shopping with two gorgeous women who found strength and courage and were brave and exquisite... followed by teaching a little morning Slow Flow. The Water Temple was pure delight. Bliss. I can't wait to return. On the way to the rice fields, we, heard that old mate Scotty had issued a quarantine order for all returning Australians. 14 days of self i...solation. I had wanted to swing through the rice fields, take it all in, but what I did instead was tune into the panic and fear of my monkey mind. All I have is a picture of the rice fields, I couldn't even eat. I cried my way through our lunch rest and climbed back into the car exhausted, scared, unsure and regretting coming at on this gorgeous trip to Bali at all. We arrived at our accommodation in Seminyak and I sat in stillness. Turning in. Tuning out. The truth is, I'm here. Here with this wonderful, soul enriching opportunity to hold space for a group of women who this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for. Whatever it looks like. Here with the muggy weather and gorgeous smiling local people, here with my health, my family safe at home. I am here. So I might as well be here. When I get home, I'm not sure what we will do, I won't be teaching until the 2nd of April when my quarantine period is finished. But I am here. In the moment, grateful to be breathing. Present. Available. Content. Compassionate. Curious. See more

08.01.2022 Everyday, rescuing myself from the critical projections of others. Stronger, softer, wiser, calmer. More me.

07.01.2022 I arrived a little early for class last week and inspired by a couple of legends, decided to have a go at Chin Stand - Ganda Bherundasana. This was the result.

07.01.2022 These two. Nothing and everything to do with Yoga. Connected. Loving. Authentic. Present.

07.01.2022 1hr apart. 1. Ready for a Skype meeting that didn't happen so 2. I went to @f45_training_berwick This is a different before and after that I'd be stoked to get on board with. I used to think that I could get all the needs of my physical body met though Power Yoga, and for a time, I was, and it's ok if you are too. But at the core Yoga is not about getting all the needs of the physical body met In fact, yoga couldn't care less about the physicality of my body, if ...you follow modern yoga you'd be forgiven for thinking that Yoga is about long slender legs, elastic hamstrings, Lululemon and complicated binds. Its not. Asana, the word we use to name the shapes we make translates, 'to sit'. All the movements we make on our mat are to decrease the distraction of the physical body so we can sit. Sit with ourselves, with our breath, with our heart, our thoughts. I'm finding that having a space to move my body with the intention of building strength and agility, has taken the pressure away from trying to find that in my yoga practice. With that pressure off, my practice now, is ALL about connection finding my quiet, stillness, peace, clarity... I still like to play and explore my body and my teaching is still challenging and full of play, but for me, balance at the moment means I'm sweating at F45 and exploring ease at Yoga. Next month might be different. But for me today, this is my truth. See more

04.01.2022 When I was growing up, one of the scriptures in the Bible that I meditated on constantly was The Great Commission outlined in the book of Matthew, chapter 28 verse 19-20. It says: Jesus went right ahead and gave his charge: go into all the world and spread the good news of love and I will be with you. I sometimes catch myself uttering the words of my childhood, my youth, 'Send me Lord, use me as a vessel for you to move through, breathe through me, impart your love to me so... I can love on people, just as you did, unconditionally'. As I reflect on this, these words, these sentiments, I feel so emotional, they are more than words to me, more than sentiments. They're my Dharma. I grew up having dreams of living in countries where my days would be spent loving on the unlovable, fulfilling, in a more a traditional sense, The Great Commission of going into all the world. But here I am. In Berwick. With a family. A mortgage. Commitments. But you know what? I'm living the words and Commission of Jesus everyday. I'm still uttering the words, 'Here I am Lord. Send me'. Still willing, still feeling the call of love. The call to share that love. It's what I see the sharing of Yoga to be for me, a communication of love. Creating and holding space for you turn from the chaos out there into the love thats in there See more

04.01.2022 I love you. About a week ago at the end of one of my classes, out of my mouth sprung these words. I love you. To be honest, I was a bit embarrassed, 'how weird for a teacher to say that to her students' I thought. Then came the second guessing... Is there a boundary violation here? Is it too forward? Too much? I love you.... Three little words that, depending on your layers of experiences, will carry different significance. Maybe you rarely or never heard these words as a child or even as an adult, or maybe they were used to manipulate, silence or shame you. I love you. When those words came out, as surprised as I was, there was a 'but it's true!' feeling that followed. Because I do, I love you. Without any strings. Zero expectations. And if you think I'm not talking to you, I am, I'm talking to you. It's true. I love you. You make my life better just by being you, just by being here. I see you over there. And I love you. Just as I love myself, just as I deeply love my God, I see the same gold, the same ecstatically brilliant essence of life and truth in you. I love you. __________ #yoga #melbourneyoga #melbournelovesyoga #thisisyoga #yogaforeverybody #yogalove #yogapractice #everybodycandoyoga #tunein #yin #balance #meditation #spiritual #iapproveofme #thisisme #authentic #perfect #selfcare #victoria #isolation #play #transitions #love #instagood #photooftheday #yogaonline #love #iloveyou See more

02.01.2022 See you in the morning

02.01.2022 My New Logo... The spiral in Aboriginal Art represents a Waterhole. A meeting place, a place or nourishment. Waterholes play a critical role in survival; they are seen as sacred places. The spiral also represents the conch shell, which is important in Yogic philosophy. When the conch (Shankha) is blown, the primal sound of Om emerges, Om is the sound of creation. The sound of the conch also symbolises the victory of good over the evil. ... And finally, it is perfectly imperfect. Wobbly, uneven, truthful and authentic. It reminds me to be those things too.
