18.01.2022 HAPPY KARTIK (DAMODARA) MAAS!!! Everyone loves certain foods, drinks, clothes, and music. Lord Krishna is no exception. In fact, we have our various likes because we are part and parcel of Lord Krishna, who has His own personal likes. Krishna loves butter, yellow cloth (pitambara), peacock feathers, cows, flutes, and the land of Vrindavana. Similarly, of all months, He loves the month of Kartik the best!!! This year, Kartik month begins on the 31st of October and ends on... the 30th of November 2020. Kartik month, or Damodara Month as it is also known as, glorifies Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda - known as the Damodara Lila . This is why this month is also known as 'Damodara' month. This month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krishna. The presiding deity of this month is Srimati Radhika. Hence any austerity or penance, even the smallest, will yield huge results. During this month, devotees daily offer ghee lamps to Lord Krishna, sing the Damodarastakam, and engage in the chanting of the holy names of the Lord and hearing His transcendental pastimes. And the Lord can reciprocate with each one perfectly. Not only does He respond to their loving mood heart-to-heart, but He can also communicate in their own language. This is so because He is the most wonderful linguist. As drill Rflpa gosling explains in the Bhakti - rasamrta - sindhu, "A person who knows the languages of different countries, especially the Sanskrit language, which is spoken in the cities of the demigods-as well as other, worldly languages, including those of the animals-is called a wonderful linguist. It appears from this statement that Krsna can also speak and understand the languages of the animals. An old woman in Vrndavana, present at the time of Krsna's pastimes, once stated in surprise, 'How wonderful it is that Krsna, who owns the hearts of all the young girls of Vrajabhumi, can nicely speak the language of Vrajabhumi to the gopis, while in Sanskrit He speaks with the demigods, and in the language of the animals he can even speak with the cows and buffalo! Similarly, in the language of the Kashmir province, and with the parrots and other birds, as well as in most common languages, Krsna is so expressive!'
