24.01.2022 Hey Everyone, It's NAIDOC week, and whilst David King has work commitments, we have a special guest in Gary Kaganoff, a local psychotherapist, environmentalist and the producer of the documentary 'Give a dam', which highlights an issue impacting our local Aboriginal community. No doubt we will talk more about how important our connection to nature is for our mental health. Also, we will have emerging artist Ace Evergreen performing with her mother Rachael. Should be a great show guys. Don't forget to tune into Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 Tuesday at 11am, stream live at www.rbm.org or listen back to the podcast. https://youtu.be/HzIdWlbjyx0

16.01.2022 -------PODCAST (please share)--------- Phenomenal show today guys. Twelve year old Ace Evergreen shares her incredibly deep and soulful original music along with her mother Rachael Brady, and today's guest Gary Caganoff shares stories of his travels both worldly and spiritual. Today's show is a great reminder that experiences of awakening can be emotionally tumultuous and appear like mental illness when another approach is called for. Importantly, anyone can open themselves t...o self realisation or alleviation of mental pain via the evidence based psychological technique of mindfulness (aka developing the observer). 12.01.2022 On our upcoming Ladies Show on November 17th we will welcome back to the microphone Penny Holbrook who last year shared her incredible journey from devastation and attempting to take her own life in 2015 to now flourishing and giving as much back to the community as possiblePracticing wellness and kindness on a daily basis. This year Penny will be speaking with us about the rising mental health issues that have come with this pandemic along with a new program called PACER (...Police, Ambulance and Clinical Early Response Program) Penny will outline how they implement improved responses to mental health crisis with appropriate assessments completed by a Psychiatrist or accredited mental health practitioner at the time of the 'Police call out' to determine how the patient will then be triaged. 10.01.2022 Also coming on the Ladies show is Eleni Psillakis. Never in her life did Eleni believe she would experience prison. She is a mother of three beautiful children, had a career which she loved, a home and on the surface appeared that she had it all together. For the last 8 years of her 21-year marriage, inside she was falling apart. Old unhealthy thoughts and behaviours of an eating disorder she suffered decades before resurfaced as low self worth and depression increased. Elen...i didn't recognise what she was experiencing in her marriage to be domestic violence. She felt it was 'her normal' but as it intensified, her mental health suffered. She was at her lowest when she made a poor decision and was arrested 4.5 years later. It was through the therapy with a forensic psychologist for months prior to sentencing that Eleni had a lightbulb moment and wished she had treatment for the underlying unhealthy thoughts that resulted in an eating disorder in her late teens. Unlearning these thoughts was not easy, particularly when she spent 11 months behind bars. But it was this experience that has made her the resilient woman that she is today and now loves who she is. 03.01.2022 ----PODCAST (please share)----- After some technical difficulty, here is the complete podcast of this special ladies edition of the Men's Mental Health Show. We have the incredible Bronnie Spitz hosting, psychotherapist Boudi Maassen's valuable input as always and two inspirational women - Penny Holbrook and Eleni Psillakis - sharing their lived experience of mental illness and how they now contribute to the community. Penny's story provides insight into the kinds of events... that can trigger suicidal ideation including sexual harassment and suicide in the family, as well as how the support of family and private clinics have helped her to regain her zest for life. Eleni talks about the problem of not getting help sooner and the progress she made with a forensic psychologist. Both women are happy to see changes to mental health management that they have sought. Thanks again to our sponsors Dale Hunt and Mounties Group, and Noel Pope and the greater Lawson community.
03.01.2022 -----PODCAST (please share)----- A bobby dazzler of a show today guys. Boudi Maassen, Matt Tonks and I have a deep and meaningful discussion about family estrangement and the techniques we can use to deal with it and hopefully overcome seemingly irreconcilable differences. I talk about not holding grudges, making amends and persistence in showing your love. Matt talks about good listening and embracing imperfection. Boudi encourages us to be in the moment because it allows you to disengage from your wounded self. So much wisdom in today's show. A reminder too that if you sign up to the website www.mensmentalhealthshow.com you will be emailed a copy of blog posts from our various team members keeping you up to date on what's happening in our community. It's easy and free.
