02.01.2022 https://youtu.be/G5xfoEVyJRg Dear Friends, The next episode of A Carnatic Journey is here. ... In this episode we have tried to simplify the concept of Mela Raga Chakram that is popularly used in Carnatic Music. It is a vast subject and this is by no means exhaustive. We just wanted to offer an insight into how a raga is classified. There are some extrodinary musicians who have worked on this extensively, and I encourage all of you to read their work if you want an in-depth understanding of the Mela Raga Chakram. Here are some things to remember: 1.This episode is a little technical, please dont worry if you dont comprehend it immediately. We have tried listing out some famous Ragas that form part of the Mela Raga Chakra, so you can connect it with what you have already been listening to in concerts and place them better. If this is the first time you have heard of any of these ragams, dont worry, a quick search for the particular ragam on the internet can lead you to some remarkable rendition by senior musicians, which will assist you in identifying them in the future. 2.For students I have tried to simplify the chart as I have understood it, and I hope that helps you. 3.This is only an attempt at logically analyzing the structure of the raga scheme, this in no way can replace what you learn from your gurus and by listening to music. Rest of the details is in the description. This episode was the toughest to put together so far, as it required many pictorial charts. I thank Ms. Anagha Nadig for creating such easy to understand charts and Sri. Venkaiya Raja sir for immensely helping with the editing and bringing this episode of ACJ together. I also want to thank my friends and family for encouraging me in this endeavor. I hope you enjoy this part of ACJ. Hope to meet you next Saturday with the next stop the train stops at you can watch the previous episodes in my youtube channel.
