24.01.2022 The notorious Cryptowall. The creators of Cryptowall are very intelligent, are have been successful in evading Antivirus and other malware detecting products. What can I do to protect myself? First and foremost: Backup! Backup! Backup! Then verify your backups are working. Secondly, most cryptowall infections come from attachments in emails masquerading as invoices, resumes and fines. Verify these are legitimate before opening. Thirdly make sure your antivirus software is wo...rking and up to date. Once infected it is often not possible to recover the files without paying the expensive ransom. See more

17.01.2022 Windows 10 Is Here! Should I upgrade? Well that depends. Every Windows release in the past has contained bugs, driver issues (graphics, embedded chips, etc) and issues with less popular programs. Firstly, check with your hardware and software vendors if your computer/software is Windows 10 compatible/supported. Secondly, what is the motive for the upgrade? If you like to tinker - go for it. If you enjoy the operating system you have - then why upgrade?... My personal advise: Wait 6 months for the major bugs (both from Microsoft and 3rd party providers) are ironed out before taking the leap. See more

16.01.2022 Having intermittent issues with your Domain configured computer? All too often I've seen my predecessors set the primary DNS as the server, and the secondary as the router/isp/google server. This is a BIG NO NO! As Microsoft's own "Troubleshooting DNS Clients" https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754588.aspx puts it, and I quote: "Do not configure clients to use both AD DS-integrated DNS servers and Internet Service Provider (ISP) DNS servers". This means if you only... have one Domain Controller (DC), you should have only ONE DNS server - the DC. No, You won't have internet while the DC is offline, but how often does that happen? Also, rebooting your pc would leave you without an IP address since the DC serves IP addresses anyway. Once again, Only DC's should be in the DNS server list on your computer! Question your MSP if they've configured it incorrectly! See more

13.01.2022 Microsoft have released two new great products into their product line. The Microsoft Surface Pro 4, an expected and marginal update to the Surface Pro 3, but what wasn't expected was the Surface Book Pro laptop. Both are exciting (but expensive!) hardware indeed! Check out Gizmodo's information about them and Australian prices at http://www.gizmodo.com.au//microsoft-surface-book-and-sur/

13.01.2022 Microsoft Operating System Support Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 and Server 2008r2 on January 2020. This means no more security patches and vendors will begin removing support for their software to run on those platforms. Plan your upgrade path!

12.01.2022 Can your domain be held hostage? Many times I've managed new clients only to find their domain was registered by their previous provider who also set themselves as the registrant contact. Domains setup like this allows your provider to hold your domain, website, email and other services hostage.... There is little recourse to regain control of your domain without the cooperation registrant contact. Waiting for the domain to expire is dangerous, and also puts the domain in a 40 day 'expired' status where your domain no longer works. After this, anyone is free to register the domain. I've had a customer lose their domain this way! To check if you have control of your domain go to: https://whois.ausregistry.net.au/whois/whois_local.jsp? Put in your domain name without the www (for example ragenit.com.au) and verification code. If your email address is not the registrant contact email, then insist your provider set this to your email address.
