22.01.2022 Do you have children aged 1-17? Researchers from The BRAVE Program, The University of Southern Queensland, Griffith University and The University of Queensland are conducting an online research project COVID-19 Unmasked. They are seeking parents of children aged 1-17 years to help them learn more about the emotional effects of COVID-19 on Australian children and families. The researchers intend to use this information to help caregivers, educators and health professionals learn how best to support children and adolescents now and in the future. Can you help? For parents of 1-5 year olds, copy and paste this link into your browser: is.gd/covid19_unmasked For parents of 6-17 year olds, copy and paste this link into your browser: https://rebrand.ly/covid19unmasked6up

19.01.2022 Our children should never be discriminated against because of who they are, how they were created or what kind of family they come from, a family with sole pare...nts, divorced parents or from a rainbow family where one or more parents is LGBTIQA+. In collaboration with Rainbow Families Queensland and Rainbow Families Victoria we have made a submission into the Religious Discrimination Bill. Check it out here. https://www.rainbowfamilies.com.au/religious_discrimination

19.01.2022 reposted from Trans Pride Australia: Trans Pride Australia are reaching out to you - our community, friends, families, lovers, allies and all that believe in equality and respect. We are dealing with a dangerous problem. Mark Latham has introduced The Education Legislation Amendment (Parental Rights) Bill 2020; a bill that will impact every LGBTIQ+ student in NSW, denying their existence and denying the teachers and school support staff including councillors the right to supp...ort and prepare students to live their best possible life. Below is a letter TPA has sent to the Premier, Deputy Premier, Education Minister, Opposition Leader, and Shadow Education Minister requesting they stop this harmful Bill. What can you do to help? We are asking you to step up and send you opposition to this bill through Equality Australia. https://equalityaustralia.org.au/ignoranceineducationbill/ See more

17.01.2022 Wishing all our Rainbow Families a very Happy Lunar New Year! May the year of the rat bring you, and your family, joy and happiness!

16.01.2022 Were delighted to announce that the Brisbane City Council petition to ensure BCC continue to run Drag Story Time events at Council libraries and venues has been approved! Thank you to all our supporters for your work on this. In summary the Council has said: Drag Queen Storytime is one of hundreds of different events held in Council libraries each year that foster a diverse and inclusive city. Council remains committed to its values of inclusion, tolerance and diversity and ...will continue to offer Drag Queen Storytime in libraries as part of the range of events offered in response to community needs. Many many thanks also to the LGBTI Legal Service for their work for justice regarding the homophobic petitions that were lodged on the BCC Website regarding Drag Storytime earlier this year. Councillor Kara Cook gives a brilliant speech on this and in support of Rainbow Families Qld and Drag Storytime below. https://www.youtube.com/watch You can read the decision at: https://www.epetitions.brisbane.qld.gov.au/petiti//pid/814

15.01.2022 Its been a big week. Yesterday a Bill was introduced into the ACT parliament to make it against the law for anyone to try and change someones sexual orientati...on or gender identity AND the Queensland parliament passed a Bill that will outlaw conversion practices by health service providers. The Queensland Government will allocate funding for an integrated education and research project which will, among other things, identify appropriate supports for survivors. These developments follow a commitment made by the Victorian Premier to outlaw conversion practices, and the South Australian Labor Opposition signalling it will introduce a private members bill later this year. The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute is also conducting an inquiry into possible legislation in Tasmania. There have been many positive steps, but we need more action to make sure these damaging practices are stamped out once and for all. Can you take a minute to sign the petition and tell our leaders that LGBTQ+ people deserve to live their lives without harm or fear that they need to be fixed and end harmful LGBTQ+ conversion? https://equalityaustralia.org.au/endconversionpractices/

13.01.2022 Check out the LGBTI Legal Services brilliant new "trans at school" series of youtube vidoes! Theyve been made to complement the Trans@School resource previously published on the Queensland Human Rights Commission. They explain the rights of students under the Anti-Discrimination Act and include information on names and pronouns, school uniforms, medical information and privacy, toilets, and school sports. All schools whether they are state schools or non-government schoo...ls have an obligation to comply with the Anti-Discrimination Act, which means that students cannot be treated differently just because of their gender identity. We know some schools are trying hard to make sure their students all feel safe and supported but just do not know where to start. These resources are aimed at helping everybody - schools, students, and families understand the legal aspects of the issues impacting on trans and gender diverse students, and hopefully lead to better outcomes for those students and a safe and supporting learning environment for the whole school body. The guide for schools is available at https://www.qhrc.qld.gov.au//for-schools-an/trans-@-school. The student resource is available at https://www.qhrc.qld.gov.au//for-lgbtiq-peo/trans-@-school. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOQ7ExYa2_-mGyNj1Ym6khw

07.01.2022 Hi all. Today is your last opportunity to sign the e-petition to support Drag Queen Storytime. So far the majority of petitioners opposing DQStime are from out...side of Brisbane/QLD - so please jump on if you feel urged to do so TODAY! Share! Share nation-wide. To borrow from one of our dear friends - Last day to sign the petition. If youre not fond of men dressed up as women telling stories to kids, thats ok. But if you were ok with Aunty Jack being on the telly at family time, and youre also ok with the likes of Dame Edna being a national hero/ine then perhaps have a little think why. This is the last day to sign, and most objectors dont live in Brisbane. Most supporters do.
