21.01.2022 Table top from salvaged green bloodwood from uki mill burn pile. Some of these pieces of timber were literally pulled from the fire and saved moments before being turned into CO2. 20.01.2022 Water crystal hack. This is For those of you who are planting trees and have children in nappys. In some cases water crystals can be desirable for those dry north/east/west slopes in full exposure. ... 1: seperate number 1’a from number 2’s (optional) 2: soak nappy for a few minuits in water (could mix in cow poo / other source of nutrients into water) 3: slit the nappy at one end 4: shake vigorously until hydrated crystals fall into awaiting collection vessel. If needed hydrated crystals can be stored in a sealable container until planting If desired mix in added nutrients with a drill/paint mixer/auger (optional but would recommend) Happy planting

19.01.2022 Resting in the shade of trees we planted together. #nextgeneration

18.01.2022 #ComersoniaBartramia / #brownkurrajong in bloom. A fast growing, tough pioneer. Provides fauna with nectar and pollen. Seed capsules can be found on the tree all year round. Though make sure to visually affirm seed has not dropped out of the capsule prior to collection. Typically for smaller batches the go to is to blend with water (1:2 plant matter:h20) ... Then sow and cover lightly. There is Some debate regarding the need of fire /heat/ boiling water to break dormancy... and though I used to ensure I poured boiling water over seed I now simply find scarification via blender/machine is more than enough. Traditionally the bark from coppice (regrow) shoots was used to make dilly bags, string ect... Happy growing

16.01.2022 Integrated pest management. #soilfoodweb #predator #spider #mosquito

16.01.2022 #kenyan #topbar #beehive made from #flindersiaschottiana. beeautiful to have these ladies buzzing round

12.01.2022 Couple of lamp shades made recently. Open for custom orders. Mixed materials. First is bangalow palm inflorescence, home grown gourd, recycled copper wire.... Second is recycled copper and brass + silver soldier

12.01.2022 Slugs have been eating my #commersoniabartramia / #brownkurrajong seedlings. To combat their efforts I sprinkled coffee grinds around the newly emerging sprouts. Between the coffee grinds and the sudden influx in leeches (a primary predator of slugs) the seedlings seem to be surviving. Who know leeches could be so important in the soil food web!

11.01.2022 Earthen oven workshop 2021 Thanks for the willing hands

07.01.2022 View from the loo... Carrying on with the theme of gratitude. This is the site of a soon to be mixed koala food / rainforest 50/50 funded by Byron shire council Hinterland Koala conservation fund.... The task of planting these trees in the coming days is made easier by @studiokiteaustralia lending their slasher for cutting the grass. I’ve been scraping together stock from the nursery for this planting and today a friend called and said he had grown too many trees! Too many trees! Who would have thought that was possible in these times.... any way he promptly came out to drop them off and show his friend around the nursery ect. I ended up running 15 min late to our appointment (caught up collecting lots of seeds-see last post). When I arrived they had taken it upon their selves to weed the plants! Once more in full gratitude for Community and how we can up lift each other. Re-greening this land together

06.01.2022 A local teak in full bloom #flindersiaschottiana #cudgery Keep en eye out for these Magnificat emergent trees covered in white clusters of flowers that will develop into 5 capsules around January. Easily distinguished by their flowers as well as compound leaves ... If your planning on growing cudgery from seed and will be collecting your own seed it’s worth noting any low branches flowering while easily spotted as once the seed pods form they are rather camouflage. Recommend collecting with pole secteurs once a few capsules are begging to open. Then leave green seed pods in a bucket to dry and open. #planahead #allwayswatching #seedwatch #rainbowregen #nothernrivers

06.01.2022 Side of the road #sourcherry up #wilsonscreek

06.01.2022 Few months ago a neighbour gorilla planted a nice ficus specimen along the road. It sat their happily until some one came along and ripped it out of its hole. Today the hole was filled once more by this beaut #stranglerfig. With the addition of Orlando’s (my son) nappies (water crystals #closetheloop) and some dynamic lifter this tree is well on its way.... I’d love to hear any gorrila planting story’s below

03.01.2022 This Beautiful #mischocarpuspyriformis in #brunswickheads dropping huge quantities of seeds. I managed to collect about 80 litres before the next deluge washes this seed lot into the waste water drain (see first pic). Note the hungry pied kurrawong watching me remove some -not all of its dinner. The owners of the property noticed my actions and invited me to lay a tarp on their side of the fence to collect the seeds as they fall which I promptly did. Pointing out a hard quan...dong that had germinated in their lawn I was invited to the other end of the property to witness an #endiandrasieberi in full fruit also. In full appreciation of the connecting of community with a common goal. My seeds are your seeds If any ones looking for some hot spots to get collecting / advice in how to start growing rainforest please feel free to Dm.

03.01.2022 First ever #stingingtree from seed. #Dendrocnideexcelsa Growing up to 40m tall and over 6m wide at the base. ... All aerial parts of the tree have stinging hairs, and can cause a severe reaction on contact with skin, so it is a hazard to livestock, travelers and campers. However, the tree is an important member of the ecosystems of eastern Australian forests. Apparently this tree was used by first people’s for fibre for nets / cordage.
