25.01.2022 Happy Shiraz day! Today marks Australia’s inaugural day celebrating the Shiraz variety - our favorite! Shiraz is one of Australia’s most loved varieties and you can understand why: the 2020 vintage saw over 350,000 tonnes of shiraz grapes crushed (that’s 25% of the total Australian wine market!).... Originally from France and known as Syrah elsewhere in the world, Shiraz is one of the darkest and heaviest reds on the market. And whilst dark and heavy, it’s packed with flavours including blueberry and blackberry, along with big, ripe tannins. But what if you don’t like full bodied wines? At Ranahan’s, we use the Shiraz grapes from our single vineyard to also create our delicious Shiraz Rosé and Sparkling Shiraz. It’s amazing that this small dark grape can be used to create so many delicious wines!
