13.01.2022 GOOD Afternoon Y’all ! As I sit and watch people at the ranch sortings I attend, I see many people who love their horses, love their friends and love the sport...! I see the celebration of the winners I see the agony of defeat. Those roles change from weekend to weekend, that’s what makes our sport so appealing to the competitors. I enjoy seeing new faces and seeing those new people get help from someone who was new just a short time ago. We all want to win every time we step in the arena, but learning to handle the bad days is what truly makes us winners. Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a looser is a quote I really like. I also like Smile through the pain and Never Weaken So you might be thinking...Shelley you just contradicted yourself. But no I didn’t ever say you have to like loosing you just have to learn to handle it! I’m a terrible looser just ask my mom, she’ll tell ya how many times she drug me to the truck and we loaded up and left the play days, her and dad hauled me to. Because I was crying and screaming because I didn’t win. ( I think my butt was hurting pretty good too from the whipping I was getting while being drug to the truck) But by the time I got home I was ready to ride my horse again I was ready to change me and ready to practice so I could do better next time. See just crying and belly aching about it wasn’t gonna make me win next time ( heck if I didn’t shut up pretty quick there wasn’t gonna be a next time ) That lesson I learned early on but it’s a lesson all these years later that I still have to tell myself on those non winning days. Although ranch sorting doesn’t require weekly practice like other sports, it’s sure better if ya do! I challenge all of y’all to work on yourself and your horse more before the next sorting! Sometimes all it takes is learning more horsemanship or learning to read cattle better or letting a professional tune your horse up. But YOU have to put out the effort, YOU have to seek the knowledge and sometimes that’s the hardest part. See more
