20.01.2022 The ATO quote that they have a 0.1% complaint statistic is the ATO dealing in spin. The reality is that tax payers are too scared to make a complaint if bullied or treated unfairly out of fear of the ATO then making life a misery with subjecting them to 1 audit after the other. What is a known fact is the ATO is trying to always contact tax payers directly to cut the tax agent out of the loop in the hope that they can exert pressure on a tax payer to get the outcome the ATO want, where as a tax agent is far more likely to stand their ground knowing the tax payers rights to fair treatment. If you are contacted by the ATO refer them to your tax agent as you have a right to representation.
