25.01.2022 Pics from my Prismacolor Pencil Demo workshop at Randwick Art Society a few days back. Thank you to those for coming, taking care and practicing our social dist...ancing! Next week's ArtGraf Water Soluble Drawing Demo/Workshop at RAS - RLI has been cancelled due to the current circumstances of Covid19, we need to be mindful of the welfare of our members and visitors. 23.01.2022 First day back at RLI Monday studio 9am -1pm and Members getting back into the swing of things. 22.01.2022 Dear Members Taking into account the advice of Government regarding Covid19 and group meetings, we need to be mindful of the welfare and health of our members and visitors. After much thought and consideration the committee has decided to suspend all meetings and activities at RLI until further notice. We have also reluctantly decided to cancel our Annual exhibition in May. Refunds will be made to those members who have already forwarded their entry.... These are unprecedented times and we cannot know just how long these disruptions will last but the committee will keep you informed of any changes. As artists we are so lucky to be able to follow our creative interests in our homes. We can use this time to complete work for future exhibitions, try some new techniques, paint/draw self portraits - human and pets in your house. To try and help our members stay connected the committee have suggested a Sketch-a-day project. This project will be on the Whats On section on our website. For a month every day, you select and paint/draw the one word on the list attached. 19.01.2022 Vale Marilyn Kime Marilyn was a founding member of Randwick Art Society in 2009 and as such was a driving force in establishing our presence in the eastern suburbs. At her funeral service on Friday, Jim Kime, her husband said he was the luckiest man in the world to have shared his life with Marilyn. ... We could say the same, as Marilyn was welcoming to new members, hardworking, enjoyed being involved in Committee work and in the role of Treasurer. Marilyn was an accomplished landscape painter and loved painting the sea and mountains as was evident by all the work she exhibited in our exhibitions. We shall really miss her and thank her for the wonderful contribution she gave to our group.

15.01.2022 Randwick Art Society is once again taking part in The Art of Sydney Awards. A big thank you to Lydia Chan for opening up her home and hosting a lovely breakfast for members dropping off their paintings to Bankstown. Thank you also to those assisting with delivery. At Bankstown the paintings will undergo a selection process and those selected will be on show at the Australian National Maritime museum. Good luck to all participating. All are welcome, so come along and spend a ...few hours to enjoy support your local artists and maybe take home a little treasure. 09.01.2022 RAS Emergence Art Exhibition Bowen Library, Maroubra Randwick Art Society Inc has been offered an art exhibition at the Lionel Bowen Library at Maroubra. As there is currently social distancing in place, we will be following all the regulations required to ensure a safe environment up to and during the exhibition.... This means that members of the public can currently visit Maroubra Library but will need to give their name and address when visiting. We need to be aware of any changes to the regulations for Covid-19 and need to follow the Library and Council requirements. This is the first exhibition that Maroubra Library is holding since lockdown, so we are delighted to be able to show the talents of members of our Society. As there is limited space available at the Library, we need to limit the number of artworks that can be shown. We therefore have to limit the number of paintings for each financial member to (1). Should you not be financial, you are welcome to renew your membership prior to entering this exhibition. Sketch-A-Day artwork on Television Screen in Library Many members have been contributing to the Sketch-A-Day pages on our website during the lockdown. The Committee would like to showcase the wonderful work that has been sent in, and we have the opportunity to use the television screen in the Library wall where we can show all the Sketch-A-Day Assorted and Out and About artwork. We intend to show the work on a continuous powerpoint show. If anyone who has entered their work on the website and does not wish their work to be displayed, please advise us. TIMELINE 1 July 2020 Email sent to members requesting (1) artwork and entry form for exhibition. 13 July 2020 Final day for submissions to email [email protected] 14 21 July 2020 Selection of entries. 24 July 2020 Members advised by email of selected artists. Finalists with artwork will be put on RAS website. 27 to 29 July Selected artists to bring artwork to Rick Bardsley-Smiths place, 164 Rainbow Street, Randwick between 9am 12noon. A big thanks to all those who submitted entries into the RAS Logo competition, (which were all of a very high quality), and to the successful finalists, Rick Bardsley-Smith, Alexandra Giminez and Heidi Hereth. We had a good response from members casting votes, but in the end Logo Number 1, from Rick, was the overall winner! Both Heidi and Alexandra tied in second place. 04.01.2022 RAS Demo/Workshops 2020 by Niki Koeppl 4 Mondays in March @ RLI! $10 per session Painting with Pan Pastels: Monday 2nd March 10am-12pm... Niki will be demonstrating the use of Pan Pastels in this session plus there will be the opportunity for some hands on time to test out the materials. Pick up techniques on how to apply and blend dry pigments using specialised tools to create a painterly effect on paper. A limited selection of Pan Pastels will be available to try however feel free to bring along your own set of soft pastels to work with plus your sketchbook and/or pastel paper/pad eg. Mi Tientes or Arttec tonal paper with medium surface texture suitable for pastels. Sealife Painting with Holbein Artist's Watercolours: Monday 9th March 10am-12pm Create an oceanic themed watercolour painting using high quality, beautiful Japanese Holbein Artists' Watercolours. BYO or choose a sealife creature from the images Niki will provide in class and learn how to create an underwater effect with the Holbein watercolour paint provided. Please bring your own watercolour brushes (sable or nylon/synthetic various sizes - round and flat), w/c palette, water container, appropriate w/c paper 150-300gsm, HB pencil and eraser. Stylized Illustrative Drawing with Prismacolor pencils: Monday 16th March 10am-12pm Using your imagination, sketch your own stylized subject with inspiration from the images Niki will provide in class. Niki will be demonstrating how to recreate a subject into an illustration. If you do not own Prismacolor Pencils, please bring your own Colouring Pencils and sketch book / pastel paper pad - mixed tones. Some pencils will be available to try. Drawing with ArtGraf Water-Soluble Carbon and Graphite: Monday 23rd March 10am-12pm Explore the possibilities of a revolutionary new way of drawing with Artgraf's excellent quality art materials. Niki will be demonstrating this beautiful range of dry and wet media. Product samples will be handed around for some hands on use so please bring some sketching paper and/or heavier weight paper suitable for wet media (150gsm or higher).
