25.01.2022 NEW BLOG// The why, what and how of PR. Now live on the blog. You know where to go dears. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

25.01.2022 ARCHITECTURE// Interior, architecture and styling appreciation all in one via Tim Ross @modernista featuring a home in Adelaide by Robert Dickson of Dickson Platten circa 1958 and photographed by @david_sievers_photography. We found it posted as a fold-back but simply can’t hide this beauty in just one post. More to come. It’s ski-lodge goes summer holiday, goes family dream home all in one. Have you met a home like this before? Auntie’s... holiday home perhaps? Share your tales please. See more

24.01.2022 RARA STUDIO// A shelfie capture peeping out at us at raraHQ, and layered as always with the work by artists we appreciate. Beautiful things to inspire beautiful work.

21.01.2022 PUBLICITY AND EGO// When people reach out to us for PR asking for publicity our first question is usually WHY? People don’t often know what their greater cause is; but it’s so important to know in order to find strength in a PR campaign. ... They do know that they want well-placed media coverage in as many places as possible that spotlight them for being amazing, worthy, unique, liked, respected and credible. Oh and to sell more of what they’ve got. There’s nothing wrong with wanting those things and for wanting to grow a business that ultimately needs commercial viability if it is to survive. But have we all become a society saddled deep in the need for publicity, selling our souls and stories as products because of personal insecurities and lack of self worth? Are we feeding that beast?!! If we teach people DIY PR are we essentially propping this human need to adored by many and publicly? Is that healthy? We can find peace in the pursuit of publicity for others if it does good. If it has a greater cause. If it is for a purpose that brings joy to the lives of others; people and the planet. But there’s definitely a wrestle for us with the request to grow a profile for fame’s sake. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be appreciated and loved. That’s ultimately the striving for publicity is it not?! Would love your thoughts on this topic. Publicity... why do we all want it? And is it good for us? See more

19.01.2022 TODAY IS MABO DAY IN AUSTRALIA// Today is Mabo Day. An annual day where we honour and recognise the significant contribution Eddie Koiki Mabo made towards truth and justice. For us all. On 3 June 1992 the High Court of Australia overturned the legal myth that James Cook’s voyage to the great southern land in 1770 discovered a place that was ‘Terra nullius’ (Latin word meaning) ‘land belonging to no one.’... Eddie Mabo, with his relentless and resilient campaigning brought about a hard-won change in this language that would ‘progress’ Aboriginal legacy, rights and reconciliation. Terra nullius in relation to Australia was terminology that was overturned legally and a landmark decision was made following the rightful acknowledgment of land status. Eddie Mabo (19361992), a Torres Strait Islander, spent his life campaigning for indigenous land rights. This change in legal language unlocked conversation and paved the way for the Native Title Act (1993) to be passed by Parliament. Sadly, he passed away just five months before the High Court made its decision. Today symbolises truth, progress, and pathways of progress towards greater reconciliation and the on-going pursuit of justice for our indigenous peoples. Words cultivate the world we live in. Words matter. This day matters. Today like every day, we are thankful for the survival of the oldest continuous culture on our planet. image credits: @commongroundaustralia @indigenousliteracyfoundation #IndigenousLivesMatter #Australia #MaboDay #TerraNullius #EddieMabo #nativetitle #landrights #maboday2021 #MaboDecision

19.01.2022 HEY WHAT’S THE ROI THEN?? NO YOU DIDN’T// Hey PR pros; if you sometimes struggle to explain PR ROI feel free to use our explanation and drop this bad boy. You can’t put a dollar figure on a friend.... Clients will in the future understand that reporting on ROI against PR efforts is like trying to put a dollar figure on a friend. A friend likes you, knows you, trusts you, energises you, supports you, listens to you, contributes to conversation, is forever loyal and has your back. They say good things about you when you’re not in the room. They tell other people about how awesome you are and worthy to know. Friends, just like loyal fans of your business do not have a dollar figure on the value they bring to your world over a lifetime. PR is the effort to find friends for you and your business. The efforts are evergreen.

18.01.2022 TREND// All hail a new-breed influencer has arrived. They look different, they sound different, and they provide a much-needed dose of realism, and commercialism detox. Over the past decade (circa 2007 more accurately) and most notably in the past five years we’ve seen influencers become people-powered celebrities through the democratisation of self-published, content creation at scale, via social media platforms. And the influencers that consumers have looked to and tha...t have had most of the marketing budget real estate are historically the genetically blessed. Fashion, lifestyle, travel and wellness influencers with model proportions have been filling the social media pipes en masse, promoting skin care ranges they’ve never used from a fully sponsored tropical destination alongside generic, personal development life advice. All with questionable follower numbers in what has been a game of ‘faked’ reality and reach. In 2020 the power is shifting accelerated by Covid, and amplified by the Black Lives Matter movement and of course earlier this year the Australian bushfire climate crisis. Consumer consumption of and engagement with social media during Covid Times is showing a lean in to influencers with advocacy credibility and away from the over-saturated highlight reels that they can’t relate to or connect with. 18.01.2022 PR LESSONS// Ok, PR people... is this something you find yourself explaining daily? Don’t be afraid to move those clients aside who are expecting PR to operate like an advertising function and protect yourself in the process. ... PR is infinite and slow. Unless you’re managing incoming media requests for a celebrity relationship under wraps or clients are throwing money at stunts which may or may not result in media coverage, great PR and publicity results take time. Tell us your PR battle stories. Let’s clear things up.

16.01.2022 NEW BLOG// For some PR wellness check out the link in the bio for some tips on how you can manage your own PR. You’ll probably find that in some ways; you already are. ... Small is the new big and it’s all the little things that add up. Brick by brick you’ll make it stick. And remember friends, not all businesses should rely on publicity as their north star of PR. See more

16.01.2022 TREND// The trend to shop consciously, more sustainably, and support small and local business as well as join brands with a ‘just’ cause is not new; but we’re seeing it more and more. Accelerated and amplified by the bushfires, Covid and the Black Lives Matter movement there’s been a noticeable shift in consumers choosing activists over influencers who don’t have a cause beyond themselves.... Have you noticed this? Who are the environmental, diversity, body image and ethical fashion and beauty brands you’re turning to atm? And what does this mean for the future of influencers or for businesses shuffling their ad-spend, marketing efforts, and PR budgets? It means that now is the time to pause and evaluate your influencer investment and align with advocates who: Have a greater cause beyond commercial gains Consistently share aligned brand values at scale and position well with your business visually Consistently produce content across channels centred on value and giving back Lean in to the local, conscious, inclusive, and/or environmental movements Encourage and respond to community discussion beyond selling Produce content with transparency and foster goodwill and trust Deliver on information, entertainment or escapism in a thoughtful way that considers the impact of social issues and adjust the discourse appropriately ‘reads the room While the influencer landscape is highly nuanced and fragmented it continues, to be an important and relevant piece of the PR puzzle to elevate and position a brand. Would love to hear your thoughts? See more

09.01.2022 RARA STUDIO// How are YOU blooming right now? This week? Today? Share your win for the week. Blooming can look like many things. It can look like swimming in a sea of love hearts. Quiet nights. Shifting priorities. Being alone - this too can be blooming. Gathered in the company of many - blooming. Sometimes it’s waking up eager, early and ready; other times, letting eyelids sleep for a little longer - slowly, blooming. ... It can look like sitting on the lounge room floor wasting time well, with your kin. And sometimes it’s a calendar full of bonanzas - bright, full and bursting. Blooming can be intimate or beautifully loud, standing on a mountain top, the secret place, or laying beneath starry clouds; blooming can be internal, bright, deep and true... And blooming can look different, for me, for them, for you. A poem by Tess Guinery @theapricotmemoirs

06.01.2022 The is the past of PR and our future pipedream of PR. Things are a cha-cha-changing. Would love to hear your #PRlife stories and experiences or what your dream PR future looks like. Or simply which change do you resonate with most?

04.01.2022 SLOW PR, THE ECO FRIENDLY VERSION OF PR It’s here. The eco friendly version of PR. It is not made of plastic bottles or recycled paper. And it is not a trend, it’s a movement. And you and your business are invited. But only if you’re patient and prioritise macro results over micro, quality over quantity, evergreen over disposable and long-term wins over short-term gains. I’m speaking about something I’m incredibly passionate about. Inspired by the slow movement, I’m calling... it ‘slow PR’. Public Relations is not a ‘buy now see now’ marketing function. If advertising is what you say about yourself, PR is what others say about you and your business. Educating an audience, building awareness, changing perception and influencing behaviour takes time. How much time? There’s no exact answer. But put simply, the speed and success of your PR results are dependent on why your product is different and whether people (and the media) want to hear about it or not. Like all clever investments, PR delivers bigger returns over a longer period of time. And like anything worthwhile in life, what comes easy won’t last. What lasts, won’t come easy. @jade__roberts__ #slowPR #sustainablePR #thisisPR #raraPR

03.01.2022 JOIN US TODAY// [CLUBHOUSE] For the past few weeks I’ve been hanging out on Clubhouse, running PR rooms and talking all things life in business (the adventures and mis-adventures as we grow in life through the things we create). And sometimes really not business or PR chats at all. Actually the off-beat rooms, are like retreat rooms and have helped me find my voice and lean in to what can only be described as micro niched radio. ... It’s been beautiful, terrifying, delightful, humbling, anxiety inducing, funny... but most of all it’s given small business owners like me a chance to be heard and contribute (@jade__roberts__ ). #Clubhouse is a fully immersive audio app that allows you to contribute to conversation as it’s happening. Or create one on a whim. I’m loving it for the ability to connect with other like-minded folk, share stories and build community. Humbled to be sharing the stage with these talented and down to earth humans today from 1.30-2.30pm AEDT. Come and say hi to us. Hang out, join the stage, ask a PR question, share a PR story or just be with us. This is the kind PR movement. And it’s beautiful. Together with @terra_commune @kelly_carthy @shebang.agency @righteous_pr @jamestuckerman #thekindPRmovement #thePRpopUp

03.01.2022 Small Business Sunday// Sending big love and some virtual PR love bombs over to our friends at @roseauthelabel. Roseau is a glint and a dream come true for founder @biancavictoriajoseph (and former RARA we might add, who we’d have back any day). ... Starting an independent fashion label of any sort is courage in numbers but to manage it around a full time gig and during a pandemic; well... plus living with Victoria’s endless lockdowns... well gold medals, big ups, and endless kudos to Bianca and her duster jacket vision in Roseau The Label. Be sure to follow along their journey from start-up to our predicted Melbourne apparel stalwart. A label to watch. A label we’re cheering on. 02.01.2022 RARA STUDIO// @jade__roberts__ Does anyone else share the same habit as me; where you save books and magazines for later? Kind of like deferring joy or more like extending the joy over a longer period of time. Prolonged anticipation?... Sitting down with a good read is one of my favourite things to do on the daily and a great way to unravel a messy mind and focus on something offline. But I do tend to save magazines and read things long past the day they arrive. I recieved this beautiful curation of stories about interesting people in business doing good things as a gift from the incredible @onewildride_ and @ownerscollective founder Pru Chapman several months ago. I finally sat down to take in all the goodness. As a trail runner who has been injured and out of action for years now I found myself drawn to the story of @samanthagash who runs trails in my local and favourite trail-time area. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t pick it up. What an incredible talent and fearless running gnome. Oh man, lots of people doing great things. And a wonderful little pipedream if inspo and cuppa moment, taking it all in. Pru, that time we spent together this time last year; it really mattered. Grateful. See more

02.01.2022 RARA STUDIO// It’s going to be a good day when our team can work side by side again. We’ve always had a cloud and contractor based set-up so it’s not entirely unusual that we’d have time apart or have solo sojourns but yeah... covid times hey... who else thinks they look better IRL than on Zoom?!

01.01.2022 WORDS// @jade__roberts__ The easiest way to explain the difference between marketing, advertising and PR is this; Marketing is selling ... Advertising is telling PR is compelling PR Pros, how do you explain it?
