25.01.2022 Port Phillip Council charges residents for parking when others don't Should residents have to pay to park outside their property? Or is this just another revenue-raising exercise, to fund Council’s spending on ideological projects and a massive bureaucracy? Glen Eira residents receive 1 free parking permit, Stonnington residents receive 2 free parking permits, and Bayside residents receive 4 free parking permits. City of Port Phillip residents have to pay for every single one.... We think the evidence speaks for itself: revenue from cars (permits/fines/fees) is second only to rates as Council’s largest revenue source. They are addicted to this revenue, and use it to prop up their precarious budget situation. For more, go to https://ropp.org.au/port-phillip-parking-problems-plague-o/

25.01.2022 It's time for changeCouncil elections are going ahead on October 24 and more than ever, we need to elect councillors who can represent the interests of Ratepayers and Residents not the myriad of special interest groups that currently dominate council.

24.01.2022 Deadline to enrol to vote at Council elections if you pay rates or you are a resident https://ropp.org.au/you-can-vote-in-each-council/

21.01.2022 Your Rates are TOO HIGH in comparison to nearby councils Don’t accept cherry-picked statistics. Here’s the truth. We all pay more. A lot more. For the full explanation, go to https://ropp.org.au/fact-check-how-high-are-port-phillip-r/

16.01.2022 Did you know, you pay considerably higher rates than you would if you lived in a neighbouring council area, and Port Phillip is the only council that does not currently offer a food and green waste bin, or at least one free parking permit:

15.01.2022 August 28 is the last day to enrol to vote in the October council election. If you are a RESIDENT in Port Phillip, or if you live elsewhere but are a Port Phillip RATEPAYER, you are eligible to vote. Don't leave it until the last minute - tell your family and friends to enrol now. Australia Post's delivery service has been impacted by COVID-19 so enrolments sent by post may not arrive by August 28. RESIDENTS: https://aec.gov.au/enrol/... NON-RESIDENT RATEPAYERS: email [email protected] to enquire about council enrolment. Your form must arrive to council by August 28. It can be found here: http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/elections-voting.htm (not available yet online as at August 3)

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Louise Crawford on her election as Mayor and Marcus Pearl on being elected as Deputy Mayor in the City of Port Phillip. Wishing them both every success in these important roles.

10.01.2022 Port Phillip council want to introduce a new bin tax on top of the rates you already pay. https://ropp.org.au/council-waste-levy-a-load-of-rubbish/

05.01.2022 Basic waste services are not keeping up with nearby councils Bayside and Glen Eira residents have kerbside food and green waste bin services included in their rates & charges. Hobsons Bay residents have food and green bins as well as dedicated glass recycling bins. They are already meeting the Victorian Government’s 2030 mandate: ten years in advance! Meanwhile in Port Phillip, we are stuck in the 90’s, with landfill and mixed recycling bins, and only trials of other bins and... vague plans to introduce them one day. Council must prioritise spending or find efficiencies to deliver these basic services. Now. Why can’t this Council get the basics right? Go to https://ropp.org.au/vote-for-sustainability-in-port-phillip/ for more.

05.01.2022 If you have not already voted in Lake Ward please consider voting for Christina Sirakoff our RoPP endorsed candidate for Lake Ward

04.01.2022 City of Port Phillip has one of the worst records on waste management, one of council’s core services, and it looks like things are going to get progressively worse. Port Phillip council spend $14M per year on operating costs for waste management. Port Phillip sends more waste to landfill (over 70%) than neighbouring councils Glen Eira, Stonnington and Bayside. Whilst our council has been asleep at the wheel, nearby councils have just gotten on with it. For example, Bayside p...rovides fortnightly green and food waste bin services to its residents. As a result, less than half of their waste ends up in landfill. Why does our Council struggle so much with providing quality essential services? 01.01.2022 Port Phillip Council want to extract even more money from you Council complain loudly and openly about the rate cap challenge that prevents them from raising total rates by more than a state-wide set percentage, currently 2%. They openly admit to wanting to tax you an additional $15m per year! Council tried to get around the problem via a bin tax that would have charged you extra for beach cleaning, public bins and other waste & amenity services. This new tax is now on ...hold, as we applied significant public pressure to prevent its introduction. Make no mistake: if we don’t get a new set of independent Councillors elected, who are not driven by political party ideologies, WE WILL HAVE A NEW BIN TAX WITHIN THE NEXT 4 YEARS. Go to https://ropp.org.au/council-waste-levy-a-load-of-rubbish/ for more.
