23.01.2022 *****SEVERE WEATHER WARNING*** This includes Perth metro area IDW28001... Severe Weather Warning for damaging and locally destructive winds, heavy rainfall and abnormally high tides for people in the Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts Issued at 4:17 pm WST on Tuesday 16 August 2016. For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Geraldton to Southern Cross to Esperance. This includes people in, near or between Geraldton, Jurien Bay, Dalwallinu, Southern Cross, York, Esperance, Albany, Katanning, Narrogin, Bridgetown, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah and the Perth Metropolitan area. Weather Situation A strong cold front is approaching the southwest of WA and will begin affecting the southwest of the State during Wednesday morning and extend east across the South West Land Division during Wednesday afternoon. The front is likely to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres an hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres an hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES OR PROPERTY. WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS are expected to develop about the South West Capes from early on Wednesday morning and extend to remaining parts of the warning area by Wednesday afternoon. The winds will ease by Wednesday evening. HEAVY RAINFALL that may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible with the passage of the cold front over areas southwest of a line Perth to Albany. HIGHER THAN NORMAL TIDES will affect coastal areas in the warning area north of Lancelin from early Wednesday morning and may cause FLOODING OF LOW-LYING COASTAL AREAS. DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS are likely between Cape Naturaliste and Albany which could cause SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION. People in the southwest of WA experience a front as windy as this about 5 times a year. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture. Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit. Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area. Move vehicles under cover. Boat owners should securely moor their boats. Campers should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm WST Tuesday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's web site at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 213.
