25.01.2022 A Guillotine on its way from Donations in Kind Central to a printing school in Egypt, but not all the way by forklift!

22.01.2022 Focusing On The Future With an emphasis on their role as officers of the company, three of the four RAWCS specialist activity teams recently met in Melbourne for the annual planning weekend. Over the 6th and 7th of April the teams together with the regional coordinators from across Australia, worked on operationalising the companys strategic plan to make RAWCS fit for purpose for the 21st century. Building on workshops in Hobart and Sydney the company had analysed our rap...idly changing environment and had developed strategies to support Rotarians and Clubs with services aimed to make it easier for Clubs to engage in projects both here at home and overseas. In the past few months, Rotarians working through RAWCS have been engaged in providing drought relief assistance. More than $20M has been distributed to around 4,000 families and individuals affected by drought. This is a great example of Rotarians doing good in their communities. Why not join us and let RAWCS help you and your Club get your project off the ground. Check us out on rawcs.org.au. See more

18.01.2022 RotaryAustralia World Community Services Donations in Kind facility in South Australia is working with the South Australian State Government to prepare for th...e COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past two months, Donations in Kind has taken delivery of 140 beds from the old Calvary Wakefield and Rehabilitation Hospitals as they move to the new Calvary Adelaide Hospital. South Australia Health is opening parts of the Calvary Rehabilitation Hospital (now ECH College Grove facility) at Walkerville, the old Calvary Wakefield Hospital and, later the Repatriation Hospital in Edwardstown as specific facilities to handle potential mild-case coronavirus patients and to support non coronavirus sub-acute patients, what is missing in these two hospitals is beds! Donations in Kind has consequently been asked by South Australia Health for the Calvary beds for this, as most of the beds are still at the Donations in Kind warehouse facility at Edinburgh Parks. The setting up of these facilities in these hospitals frees up beds in other State hospitals, with serious cases still to be handled by the major State hospitals. So far, 108 beds and mattresses have been moved to the old Calvary Rehabilitation Hospital. In addition to the beds, SA Health are also looking at a range of other equipment for the pandemic contingency that Donations In Kind can supply to be transported immediately. These include ventilators, monitors, drip stands, bedside cabinets, trolleys and over-way tables. #RotaryResponds Donations In Kind gets a lot of donated goods, mainly medical and schooling, the bulk of which is destined for needy communities throughout the world. The program likes to be able to assist those in need locally, so it is especially pleasing for this Rotary program to be able to provide a substantial contribution to the local community in this time of unprecedented community health need.

14.01.2022 We have a big announcement! In April this year, we established a Rotary Australia World Community Service project to help the Whitmore family fundraise for a w...heelchair-accessible vehicle for their four-year-old girl Scarlett. She is the only person in WA identified with GNB1 Syndrome, a rare disease that affects the signaling inside her cells. Through the RAWCS project for Scarlett's Smile, we were able to provide tax deductibility for donations, which encouraged more people to donate. We also actively fundraised for the cause. In June, we held a fundraiser screening of Toy Story 4 at Event Cinema, Morley, which raised $2,474. Around the same time, we held a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Morley that raised approximately $700. In September, we held a fundraiser at the Jazz Cellar, which raised a further $4,256.78. A friend of the family, Ness, also ran a fantastic diamond earring fundraiser that raised another $2,000. In addition, the project received generous support from the Rotary Club of Dalkeith and the Lions Club of Morley, and BodyCentral Lifestyle Centre did a Rowathon that raised $7,245. Prior to starting the project, the Whitmore family had already raised approximately $7000 through Chuffed. With all these efforts combined, the Whitmore family received their secondhand Kia Carnival last Friday from FREEDOM MOTORS AUSTRALIA PTY. LTD.! It is now much easier for the family to get around and transport Scarlett. THANK YOU to everyone who generously donated to this project, as you have changed the life of this little girl and her family. We are still accepting donations until 31 November, as the family will continue to face challenges. http://www.rotarymtlawley.org.au/cu/scarletts-smile-appeal/ Many thanks to Glenn Davies, Hank de Smit, Dene Irvin and Geoffrey Russell and everyone involved. On a point of clarification the fundraising was for the vehicle and the NDIS funded the modifications

13.01.2022 DROUGHT COMMUNITIES OUTREACH PROGRAM RAWCS signed a partnership agreement with the Commonwealth Government on 12 June 2020 to assist in delivery of the Droug...ht Communities Outreach Program [DCOP], an initiative of National Drought and Northern Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency. DCOP will be holding 70+ information events in selected towns throughout the drought declared areas for farming families directly impacted by the drought. The aim is to increase coordination of drought support and enhance community awareness of the Australian Government’s drought assistance measures. Rotary’s role is to *Assist with community outreach delivery of these information events through wellbeing activities and BBQ catering. *Distribute $500 debit cards at these events as direct support to eligible farming households that are experiencing financial hardship due to drought, and improve levels of economic activity in regions by eligible recipients spending these cards in local communities and businesses. On 25 June 2020, RAWCS has received a grant of $5 million to fund its role. DCOP events will run from late July 2020 through to December 2020 and be held in all mainland states. The DCOP is currently finalising the list of towns where events will be held. Once received, RAWCS will complete the significant logistics required for our successful involvement. RAWCS DCOP project manager is RAWCS National Treasurer, Mike Whitehouse, and deputy project manager is RAWCS Deputy Chair, Dave Pearson. The DCOP have appointed four Department Prime Minister & Cabinet staff members with whom we will work closely to conduct the program. RAWCS is currently assessing drought impacted areas that will not have information events, with a view to distributing debit cards direct to eligible farming households within these areas during the program. The rollout of the DCOP program will be staged, with each stage being agreed between the partners. RAWCS will be communicating well in advance with District Governors regarding DCOP events that will be occurring in their Districts. This will include dates and locations of events and District Rotary Clubs which could be involved in the provision of BBQ’s and wellbeing activities. If Clubs choose to participate, they will be thoroughly briefed on their role at these information events. DCOP will fund a BBQ’s costs and provide a financial incentive to a club for participation.

07.01.2022 Thanks to Donations in Kind we were able to donate 15 syringe drivers including consumables for at least 20 patients each to 5 different hospitals across PNG (P...ort Moresby General Hospital, Angau Hospital in Lae, Alotau General Hospital, Madang General Hospital, Nonga Hospital in Rabaul). We organised training sessions to teach the safe use of these devices, printed and laminated a manual that we attached to machine and donated the consumables necessary to get them going. Some of these hospitals had none of these essential devices until now! We donated medical books to the Divine Word University, which is the new medical school, including resuscitation dummies, that we used for teaching and training of resuscitation skills. Oxygen flowmeters were handed to the doctors of the Southern Highlands. These devices were all destroyed due to the earthquakes in March this year. They were extremely useful, as without these flowmeters they were not able to access oxygen cylinders which must have been devastating! Bags of surgical and emergency medical consumables were given to the doctors of Alotau Hospital, which was greatly appreciated, as they did not have any left and had to stop life saving surgeries, including caesarean sections. None of this would have been possible without your and DIKs support. I feel also very lucky and blessed to have such an enthusiastic team of family, friends and colleague supporting my endeavours. Thank you so much again, David! Kind Regards Yasmin
