We also thank outgoing president Dr Ewen McPhee for his outstanding work over the past two years - it has been a pleasure as well as rewarding to work so closely with him on all the important issues affecting rural medicine. 24.01.2022 Speaking to the National Rural Press Club today, the new National Rural Health Commissioner, Adj Prof Ruth Stewart, has supported the critical role of rural mat...ernity services and their healthcare teams in providing safe and quality care for rural women and babies - and decreasing the likelihood of premature birth and its complications. Commissioner Stewart rejected as an ‘urban myth’ the argument that rural maternity services are less safe than larger units drawing on numerous international and Australian studies that demonstrate they are at least as safe, and potentially safer. 15.01.2022 We have been really heartened by the positive emails and calls we received from our members thanking us for our strong stance and recent public stance on quad b...ike safety. A fixed operator protection device is something that is with the bike all the time, no matter who is riding it, and it will help to prevent the catastrophic asphyxiations that are so often the result of being crushed in a rollover. 13.01.2022 https://www.change.org/p/australian-department-of-foreign-a https://changeorgau.good.do/BringOurBoy/Email_Marise_Payne/ https://gf.me/u/yyx575... Today marks two weeks since Gulf Livestock 1 capsized in the Pacific Ocean. Today marks two weeks since 43 humans and 6000 head of cattle were marked lost at sea. Today, 40 lives and 4 life rafts remain unaccounted for, and today, it remains a matter of urgency that the search resumes. Today, there are only two short weeks until its all too little too late. Lukas father, Dr Uli Orda, is my boss in the Mt Isa Hospital Emergency Department. He and his wife Sabine have given their all to our remote outback town, to the aboriginal community here, to the rural communities around us. They are the heart, the soul, the workhorse, the passion, the drive and the backbone of our place, turning up day in and day out to do their damn best by thousands of the most desperately in need people that Australia knows. Now theyre the ones in desperate, aching need. We as the doctors and nurses in Mt Isa ED have seen Uli save life, after life, after life. An aboriginal life, a farmers life, a granddads life, a sisters life. No man knows the value of human life like that man does, and he bends over backwards in the dead of the night, after a 14 hour shift, anytime and in any way, stopping at no end to save a life, to save someones loved one. Sabine is with him all the way, and now its their loved one, their son, waiting for someone to save him. The Ordas are compassionate, dedicated, selfless, hardworking, upstanding, highly contributing, exceptional Australians and they have raised their children to be just that too. Right now, theyre grappling with their own critical emergency and they need us to back them. They need every bit of mateship we can muster, every depth of digging deep weve got, every shred of Australian spirit we can show. You dont need to ask twice if theyd do it for you. Please, I implore you, I urge you, I compel you. Sign the petition. Send the email. Spare some change. Share it near and far. Stand up for human life. Show up for the Ordas. For Lukas, for Will, for the ANZACs, for the 36 Filipinos that may well be survivors. Resume the search. Bring the boys home. Hope is not lost until we choose to give it up. And we as Aussies, well we dont give up.
11.01.2022 RDAA is urging the Federal Government to require all aged care facilities to have a registered nurse (RN) on every shift, to ensure the better health and safety... of residents and the highest level of infection control. We renewed our call in a second submission provided to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. We also continue to call for the better integration and collaboration of aged care with general practice, including with practice nurses and administration. Having a registered nurse onsite at an aged care facility, around the clock, is essential RDAA President, Dr John Hall, said in a media statement we issued today. COVID-19 has shone a light on the need for aged care facilities to have increased in house nursing and infection control capacity - but this is just as critical in non-COVID times too."
