23.01.2022 2020 is a SOLD OUT show! Last year I made some terrifying changes in my business. Rebranded And chose the concept that most people I showed said they liked the least ... Niched Into brand voice, which I discovered was something not many people had ever heard of before Shrunk My team to just *me*. This is always confronting, because if people don’t like your brand, it can also feel like they don’t like you. I think we can all agree that this year has been pretty wild We’ve all been riding the wave and it’s been a bloody delight to watch on as your businesses ***pivot***, evolve, groove into the unknown. I am a sparkle-rolled burrito of gratitude and have found the quest into the unknown to be a wild one. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many epic Readcity Renegades this year and am still in shock that this year is fully booked. I know this is normal life for many (maybe even you)! But this is a first for me and it still doesn’t really feel real. On that note, I have a few rockin’ surprises brewing in the background which I CANNOT WAIT to share with you rockstars. Stay tuned for some rockin’ new additions to the Readcity world!! Thank you to the Readcity Renegades, the rebellious brands and YOU for simply taking the time to read this. And for letting this gal be a woo-girl for your biz too. It’s one of my favourite things to do. I’m opening a waitlist for future Readcity Renegades ready to work with me in 2021 If you’ve been thinking 2021 is the year to ROCK, let’s do it!! From the gal who started her business writing one $25 blog per week, that took 4 days to write... Thanks for being here with me x

21.01.2022 Shipping one of these bad boys (oh, you *bad* ) to a new Readcity Renegade today. One tasty drop, if I do say so myself (c'mon, I couldn't NOT taste test ). Now the real question, what should my next flavour be?

20.01.2022 Drum roll plzzz Cheers for playing along with yesterday’s Dan Facts Here’s the results! 1. TRUE | I have performed at The Commonwealth Games, The Star Casino and Versace. Paul and I swing dance in our spare time 2. FALSE | I began copywriting after 6 months planning for it. I quit my job, decided I’d be an Uber driver. Hated it. Decided to do what I’d always dream...ed of! 3. TRUE | was a backup singer in a band who’s number 1 hit was called ‘Courtney Love Killed Kurt Cobain.’ We played at a few Gold Coast venues and I also had a shaky egg (by number 1 hit, I mean the song that I liked the most ) 4. TRUE | The Readcity rebrand was inspired by the rockumentary Bohemian Rhapsody Freddie Mercury was an advocate for the strange, a celebratory of the weird. Ol’ Freds inspired me to embrace mine and help others rock their original grooves. : @lisa_g_photography of me at playin’ a Lemmy tribute gig

19.01.2022 Howdy I suddenly noticed a bunch more faces over here - look at you dazzlers! So let’s play a little game (your input is needed!!) THREE of these ‘Dan Facts’ (TM ) are true. Which ONE is false? 1. I have performed at The Commonwealth Games, The Star Casino and Versace. 2. I began copywriting after 6 months of planning for it (and with a sparkly business ...plan). 3. I was a backup singer in a band who’s number 1 hit was called ‘Courtney Love Killed Kurt Cobain.’ 4. The Readcity rebrand was inspired by the rockumentary Bohemian Rhapsody Leave your guess below and let’s see who knows most about the land of Dan

18.01.2022 Where’s your zone? Mine’s right here. Or in the front row of a gig. (Something my soul’s truly missed). Or lazing by the coastline with my love. It’s cuddling my kittens and dancing with friends. It’s going on long drives and reflecting on a life that could have been... a life that, (although different to the ‘plan’) now ~is. Inspiration can strike at any given moment. And my inspiration is n...otoriously unpredictable. Found in the sound of crunching toast or squeaking shoes. From out of rhythm conversations and uncomfortable handshakes. From picking up the sticks and feeling their memories. FYI: I’ve never been a gym person. I’ve never been a morning person. I’ve never been the leader of the pack. But in preparation for operation wedshred I now get up at 430am to workout (let’s see how long that lasts haha!). I've heard that getting active, reading a million books and journally are also great for creativity. And while I can see their worth... See how great they can be for the human mind and how powerful for creativity - I've decided I'm just going to stop fighting what is ‘meant to be right...’ And start honouring what's right for me. Crooked smiling, off-cuff joking, conversation stumbling me. In my zone. Where's yours? : @lindycharmschool See more

17.01.2022 Fierce. Giggly. Sip addicted. @martinimondays | Last month I had the darn tootin’ delight of writing for Morgan ( AKA one of the newest #readcityrenegades!). Morgan launched her rockin’ PR Mentorship Program: Master Your PR Impact (and spoiler alert: sold half of her spaces in the first 24 hours ). I’m so proud of this absolute showstopper. Her dedication to her students, her drive and her shaken, not stirred approach to biz and life ... By outsourcing her copy, Morgs was able to focus on creating epic content and nurturing relationships while I took care of all her sales copy (the selling part, which can feel a bit uncomfortable to do yourself, for some!). Here’s a few words from Morgan about her experience working with Readcity (we may have a few super tasty surprises comin’ up too ): Working with Danielle is honestly a dream. So effortless and fun that I never want it to end! Her process, flexibility, hard work and fun attitude made a fairly big project feel like a breeze. She took care of all our copy (which I was struggling to put into words) and perfectly summarised what we were offering. I thought working with a copywriter would make me feel overwhelmed with such a big project with many timeframes and deliverables but I have never felt happier. I’m so happy and proud of the words we now have to mark an incredibly exciting offer! Cheers to you, Morgan! I can’t wait to see what new magic you achieve next. : @martinimondays

16.01.2022 Do you ever step into networking events, then suddenly wish you could pour yourself into a cup and straight down the drain? #bye. Because same. Luckily for us, Leanne Webber, the Founder of The Founders Team is a networking pro. After all, it's partly to thank for growing her business to 100+ members. In this episode Leanne runs us through networking pickup lines, goals for events, where to find good ones and how to get the most out of networking (in your style). This episode is a celebration of Leanne and the incredible community she's created with @the.founders.team all ahead of her upcoming rebrand (which we are really bloody excited to release into the world!!). This lady inspires me daily and I'm sure she'll inspire the flip outta you too. Listen now via the link in bio. : @___thelatest

14.01.2022 Here’s the dealio, rockstars. People don’t hand over their hard-earned cashola for a 3.5mm ball tip pen. They’re buying the ability to access new ideas, to plan and achieve big dreams to sign on the dotted line for their first home. ... They’re buying diary entries (that become time capsules to look back on for yonks to come), reminders for schmancy dinner parties and the tying of nuptials. What experience does your business offer? What’s your client *really* buying from you? Flip features to benefits (or things to experiences) the game completely changes. Check out one of your product or service listings right now. Are you focussing on the ‘whats?’ Or have you tapped into the emotional or experiential elements your ideal customers will feel once they purchase from your rockin’ self? Now where’s that karaoke machine?

13.01.2022 Creative minds glisten like the touch of forbidden romance. They spark with the whimsy of Sundays lounging in linen. And roam like vast meadows forever reaching towards hazed horizons.... The truth is, creative minds work differently to the analytic. So when it comes to strategy in the creative field, it makes sense that the two clash unexpectedly. Lately I’ve been working with new creative business owners who simply feel lost in how to tame their wild minds (spoiler alert: to simmer that blaze would be a true tragedy!). A note to the creative: it’s okay to run free, to say I know my craft inside and out but words aren’t my thing. I’m busy creating SEO is not where my energy rides. I want a brand that sounds like me, but have no idea where to start. In recent work I’ve been teaming my love for creativity with that of my sweet Renegades. Creating words that align with their fearless creativity, balanced with the necessary strategy side (that they don’t want to worry about actioning themselves). And my soul has never felt more alight. : @realfunwow

12.01.2022 The delicate petals of your engagement dance in the breeze. Soon they will scatter Soft and blush to the floor, awaiting your next exciting step planning your enchanting wedding day. Your mind swirls, ripples circling a single stone’s drop in the ocean. You hope for smooth, calmness and beauty in the process ... Right up until that final twinkling where you and your lover tie the knot. Here’s some #readcitywords I wrote last year for @zephyretluna. Now Amber’s branching out into a new niche, so I’m creating copy to complement this new direction. It’s always fun to look back stay tuned for Amber’s killer new website! : @zephyretluna

12.01.2022 Meet Rox The epic Founder of @fiftynorth_ (named after her grandparents place fun fact!) a Brand and Marketing magic machine. Rox is also a posie picker, coffee lover and advocate for small businesses in Hervey Bay. Rox helps local businesses craft killer brands in a deeply collaborative, modern and empowering style.... When Rox reaches out about a Voice Guide, she’d realised she’d poured so much passion, creativity and energy into her clients, that she’d forgotten to turn up in her own brand as *her.* Together we carved out Fifty North’s niche, clarified key differentiators and put together specific ways for Rox to introduce more *Rox* into the brand (through brand personality and voice techniques). Unlike corporate marketing *gurus* in her local area, Rox is fresh, fun, creative and personable (many clients say it feels like hanging out with a friend when crafting killer marketing strategies!). Here’s a sip of what’s inside: I can’t promise I’ll be carrying a briefcase, wearing a blazer or cuff links. But I can promise you’ll leave our consult with clarity, ease, excitement AND where to find the best coffee in town so there’s that. Rox is transitioning into the Brand Barista terminology that brings together the idea of having the right ingredients, but still a not quite there coffee (or brand). The client brings the beans... Rox brings the strategy (epic recipe) and creativity (cupping swirls). You definitely over-delivered! It exceeded all my expectations! Squeeze a last minute-tax deduction in and book your Voice Guide for one of my remaining spots in (1) August, (1) September or (1) October! DM today to secure your date : @fiftynorth_ See more

11.01.2022 What’s your rockin’ persona? Lemmy Kilmister was known for his extreme rockstar antics, pinball playin’ and whiskey guzzlin’. A wild man on the road and epic musician. But he was also kind. ... Caring. And at his live-streamed funeral, countless people from Dave Grohl to long-time friends recalled a man who: Always had time for his friends Started deep conversations And was genuinely loving and gentle The world who didn’t know this side of Lemmy was truly rocked. How could one man be so many things? Well, if Lemmy can do it... I reckon you can too. Is your work persona and personal persona the same, or different? Kevin Rogers breaks this down perfectly. To define your persona: (Adjective) (title) (mission) For example, Lemmy’s Motorhead persona could be: Wild front man for Motorhead, with a mission to be the dirtiest rock band in the world (his words). But as a friend, colleague and muso Lemmy’s persona might be more like: Gentle giant and loyal friend here to find out deep truths and establish meaningful connections. A lot of Readcity Renegades come to me with a predicament do I be me in my business or something else? Ultimately, in a broad sense, your identity is defined by your persona. Who will you turn up as? : @rock_n_roll_is_life

11.01.2022 Are you trying to be *someone else’s* brand personality? Maybe you like the way they make you giggle. The way their sentences flow like enchanted waterfalls. Or their punch. That’s all fine and dandy. But mimicking is the devil’s candy. He’ll swallow you up and eat you whole. He’ll make you say things that you don’t really know. ... He’ll sink his teeth in. And there’ll be nothing inside. Not a value. Not meaning. Nowhere to hide. Don’t rip yourself off by coming off as a fake. No phoneys no copies - There’s a lot at stake. Instead connect values though the sound of your voice. You know that little thing that brings you closer to clients of choice? Your voice is your vehicle. Your door to everyone. You most certainly don’t want to sound like an ‘anyone.’ Note: that turned in to a rhyme after it was too late. But cadence and rhythm are to you, what you make. . : @indg0 See more

11.01.2022 Did ya know: Storytelling changes the chemicals in our brains. Yep, if this Psychology Degree has gotten me anywhere, it’s taught me one key fact (okay, a few, but this is my favourite). Storytelling activates the: BROCA’S + WERNICKE’S areas in the brain. Um... So why should you care? ... The Broca’s Area controls our motor skills. And the Wernicke’s Area controls our sensory zone. So effectively, when these two combine, a reader can picture themselves as the person living the story... feeling the emotions you’re describing and the movements of actions. Ultimately - building connection, trust and curiosity. When we begin reading a story, the ‘Pandora’ or ‘Zeigarnik’ effect means we cannot handle not knowing the ending. And wanna know the fun part? When someone reads our stories, the engaging and captivating ones this releases Oxytocin. This is the hormone released during social bonding and when we fall in love. And if that isn’t reason to have a compelling brand story that radiates through everything you do, I don’t know what is. : Rainbow kitty bathing in the sun via @wang_ziyuu See more

10.01.2022 #readcitywords Carawirry’s a place to switch off, relax and just *be.* The kind of ‘being’ you’ve wanted for a while. But it’s slipped by. Because inboxes, crowded streets and deadlines. Escape the grind. Experience. Really experience. True nature and bonds. With the land, your people and yourself. Hello @carawirry you dreamboat. Heather reached out earlier in the year to create a distinctly original brand voice for her cabin in the woods experiences. Nestled in the ...Hunter Valley, Heather knew her offering was one of a kind... She just needed the words to set her brand apart and communicate all that made these cabins wildly epic. Because despite her seriously cool locales, customers were buying elsewhere and Carawirry had started blending into the background... Carawirry’s for city lifers, busy in the grind urban life’s hecticness they want a break, to slow down and adventure their way (whether that’s hikes all day long or Netflix by the fire). I mean, who could say no to The Bathhouse, double rainfall showers, a private creek and dam oh, and a casual 250 acres of untouched Aussie forest?! We kicked off with a Mini Voice Guide, exploring Carawirry’s Australiana, adventure and joyous values. These guided core concepts like personifying ‘forest friends’ and calling guests ‘Carawirry Worrylessers.’ Small touches to showcase a more playful side. Carawirry’s brand personality now also encompasses approachable, curious and modern attributes. These combine to challenge stereotypes of old, musty cabins instead, modernising the experience. I then worked alongside the true magician who is @oladigital.co to launch a brand new website, with a completely new look, feel and to put this brand voice into action through SEO optimised website copy (Yiota, you have outdone yourself with this bad boy!!). Within 4 days, Carawirry’s new website had 273 unique visitors (swipe!), once add-on emails were being sent out, Heather was receiving emails like this (swipe again!) and Carawirry’s booked up until basically October! Let’s just say, I’m glad we booked our honeymoon stay early Check out more Carawirry goodness here: www.carawirry.com.au

09.01.2022 What type of brands use Voice Guides? The truth is I’ve created Readcity’s Voice Guides for solopreneurs, business duos, small teams and large. Emerging brands, growing brands and established brands. Startups and those with 15+ years under their belt. Readcity Renegades who now have Voice Guides span from event companies, beauty brands, fashion labe...ls and photographers right through to financial planners, nutritionists, tourism locations, bands, skateboarders and beyond. So, in short all brands benefit from a consistent voice that rings true to their deepest purpose. Why? Because 90% of consumers expect a seamless brand experience across touch points and 78% say that custom content makes them trust a brand more than the generic. The human mind craves consistency. A ripple in that and it could be enough to make ta potential customer run for the hills. But how does one create a consistent brand voice? One that’s authentic to you while still standing out? One that makes you different, yet connected to your ideal peeps? A-ha! That’s where a Voice Guide comes in. So no matter your industry, time spent in your biz or brand work you’ve done in the past, I encourage you to think about your brand voice. Decide whether it could rock a little harder, or sound more you. And if you’d like to plug it into a killer amp, I’m here to help : @oaknarrow

06.01.2022 I’m on the hunt for a legendary proofreader who hates linguistic errors more than soggy nachos covered in cat hair. Know someone who’d be perfect? Tag them here! Is that someone you? Head here www.readcitywriting.com/backstage-proofreader and apply

05.01.2022 Think of your website like a building. A regular, ordinary building. Nothing wrong with a building. Now think of the same building, just rolled in glitter. Think of all the best parts of your brand’s language. The parts where you sit back, arms folded nodding to yourself ‘yep, that’s bloody good.’ ... Now imagine it everywhere. On the windows, across the walls, in the cement. That's how copywriting helps your brand rock. Not nearly as messy, but just as long-lasting (I still find little diamantes and bits of glitter in the carpet). If you want your brand to stand out from all the others, to be the obvious choice for your ideal client, killer copy is the key. Seeing you sparkle is my favourite thing. Here's your reminder that I have just a few spots left for Brand Voice Guides in 2020. : @sarashakeel

04.01.2022 What’s the most boring thing about you? Too often we crumble under the pressure of ‘interestingness.’ To sparkle our brilliance. ... To clap out our coolest traits. To delve into the depths of self reflection... flooded minds yet empty lungs. When really, the most ordinary things about us can sometimes be the most interesting of all. From asking friends their most boring trait, I’ve learnt: One always sleeps with socks on Another eats food by alphabetical category The third turns door knobs left then right counting the corners of the room they walk in And lastly, someone ties their shoes twice, every time (I love this dedication ) And when I thought about this myself... I don’t use a spoon when I make coffee If I type one word twice, I always delete the older one If U2 comes on the radio, I turn the radio off. Things so mundane and usual in life can seem much more intriguing from the outside looking in. So, rockstar I’m curious... what’s the most boring thing about you? Big cheers to @copywritematters for inspiring me to ask this q too! : @trippy_cats_

04.01.2022 There’s a whisper in the jungle. Darling caves right by your heart. The type of listening, that’s listening despite our worlds apart. There’s a whisper in the jungle. A vortex in the sea. A longing look, a stolen kiss. A magic memory. But if you look listen closely. With eyes wide open shut. My darling, oh my darling you’ll find the locket’s just the start. : @art_deniob

03.01.2022 @gab.md is a Data Visualiser for the United Nations. She’s also one of the #ReadcityRenegades Gabi lives in California and wanted to establish her new biz with a professional yet approachable brand voice to reflect her epic passion of humanising data. ...To share meaningful results and communicate her deep passion for justice and humanity. ... Within her spiffy new Voice Guide we included extra concepts such as ‘Data DNA.’ A term Gabi will use to easily share her brand’s difference (using many human collage elements to evoke emotional responses). Gabi’s audiences span male and females, so she also received key ways to connect with authenticity and care. Like with every Brand Voice Guide, we explored Gabi’s brand values, personality and how to use language to remain on-brand, no matter where she writes. Here’s a little snippet of what Gabi has to say during our process... I absolute LOVE IT. Especially the Brand identity & brand voice part illustrated with examples are super useful. I'm so excited to start implementing this everywhere! It is super on-point so perfect! If you’ve been thinking about establishing an original, personality-packed voice that feels so *you,* I have 4 spaces left for 2020. DM to explore your rockin’ options

03.01.2022 Sometimes power is in the words we don’t say. Like my mum and best friend Zooming into my hens party, ready to have a blast for hours. Not dwelling on the impossibleness of their physical presence and the true heartbreakingness of it all. Instead having their snack stations prepared and bevvies topped up. Like walking in to my own personal merch station. Created in my exact brand font and colours. Because despite the challenges, it was important to my dear si...ster and friends to keep hold of that normality. With genuine sincerity that needn’t be spoken (apart from my many thanks and ‘WHAT!!!!’s ) Like my sister singing songs that I wrote in high school instead of sharing disappointed thoughts like ‘I wish we could see a live band.’ Nothing is more special than her song to me. Like Grace wearing her @nedlandstudio hens shirt in VIC and Zooming in to join us And Mon donning flairs. Mum even bringing a special friend connection in new ways! Like bringing the karaoke to us (yes, really!!) Because it’s my favourite thing and not missing out on a karaoke stage because of ol’ ‘rona Like my best friend Mon, teaching us how to make cocktails via Zoom never whispering that a real bartender would be better. Because she was perfect (even if we didn’t have all the ingredients ). Like dinner in our smaller than planned group of 7 and every belly sore from laughing so hard. Like sitting in a newly discovered bar. Dancing prohibited despite an epic pianist. And jiving in our chairs instead never wanting the night to end. Like realising your dearest people really know you. Whether in a playlist of all your favourite songs. The bold lip colours or wild hair. To be surrounded by the best collection of groupies a gal could dream of And knowing that despite kids, life, schedules, availabilities, they’ve made the time a gift in itself! One cherished so deeply. And that I’ll treasure for a lifetime. To be known and to know without words, that this IS boundless perfection. Despite the challenges, the restrictions, the changes. That there is beauty and power in the words we don’t say... It’s in the still moments. The quiet ones. The in-betweens and shared. Through virtual clinks and smiles through the screen. The loudness of these silent words make my heart one happy, grateful place to be.

02.01.2022 Happy AC/DC Day (+ international Gin day!!). Get wild. : @good_rock___oficial
