F...or students to develop self-advocacy skills, they need to understand their specific needs, know what will help or support those needs, and have the confidence and avenues to communicate those needs to teachers and others. Parents and educators can build the self-advocacy skills of young people with dyslexia through: talking with the student about individual strengths and challenges in reading encouraging the student’s efforts at speaking up encouraging the student to use classroom accommodations including assistive technologies, and giving the student a say in educational decisions about them.
