25.01.2022 Kaitlyn, our Oncology Ambassador gives a unique perspective on losing her hair at the age of 13 in 2009 When you are sick, you don’t really have a lot of time to spend on personal care. I would have felt so much more comfortable and less like a cancer patient if I had been wearing wig that was properly fitted and styled.. ..The Confident Locks sit where it should and if I want to put a beanie or a turban over the top I can add a personal touch. When my hair fell out in 2...009 I kept it in an envelope in the top of my cupboard and was never really sure what to do with it but I didn’t want to throw it out. After all those years I was able to have Confident Locks made with MY hair.. as 11 years on I still don’t have hair! Wearing my hair again made me feel amazing and I was so happy telling my friends and family. Cancer takes so much and I had finally been given back a piece of me. Since 2015 over $200k has been raised specifically for cancer research. 15.01.2022 Chemotherapy- induced peripheral neuropathy is a progressive, debilitating and sometimes irreversible side effect from chemotherapy. It can feature either pain, numbness, tingling, or sensitivity to cold in the hands and feet. It affects between 30-40% of patients undergoing chemotherapy. Peripheral neuropathy something that is important to monitor for during chemotherapy, as it is much easier to prevent than treat. It is something that can actually get worse after chemothera...py is ceased or if there is a break in treatment. 02.01.2022 The lived experience of scalp cooling varies from patient to patient. It is only offered for certain chemotherapy regimes.. to try and help minimise hair loss from chemotherapy. Not all chemotherapy regimes cause partial or full hair loss. . Your Oncologist, Haematologist or Chemotherapy Nurse will explain the level of hair loss you will expect from your specific chemotherapy regime. It will start 3-4 weeks after your first dose of treatment, and will generally start to grow... back 6-8 weeks after your last dose of chemotherapy. Scalp cooling "freezes" the hair follicles 30 mins before chemotherapy starts, the duration of chemotherapy (can be up to 3-4 hours) & then up to 1.5 hours after the chemotherapy.
