17.01.2022 NSW is set to cut land tax for 20 years for developers who invest in build-to-rent housing. Build-to-rent schemes are intended to provide better quality rental properties and long tenancy agreements. Here's what you need to know: 50 per cent discount on land tax to developers who invest in build-to-rent schemes... To be eligible for the 50 per cent land tax discount, a buildtorent development in metropolitan areas must have at least 50 units, with a different threshold for regional areas to be considered Construction must have started on or after July 1 and the projects need to provide purpose-built rental units, be managed under unified single ownership and include options for longer leases. An exemption from foreign investor surcharges will also be provided until 2040 for buildtorent developers. Legislation for the land tax cuts will be introduced into NSW Parliament on Wednesday. 13.01.2022 Consultation to help shape the future of government-owned land at Cherrybrook Station, which has been nominated as a State Significant Precinct (SSP), started on 24 July and will run until early September 2020. Through the SSP process, Landcom are seeking to rezone the government land to enable lively mixed-use development around the new Cherrybrook Station. 02.01.2022 New South Wales will temporarily scrap stamp duty for first home buyers, in an effort to boost house construction and jobs through the pandemic downturn. What you need to know: Threshold for stamp duty on new homes rises from $650,000 to $800,000.... For homes worth between $800,000 and $1 million, the concession gradually phases out First-home buyers purchasing vacant land will also escape stamp duty if the land is worth up to $400,000 ($350,000 previously) For land worth between $400,000 and $500,000, the payment will phase out.
