25.01.2022 Meet Laura Shooter, Managing Director of SJ Shooter Real Estate. As many of us, Laura never originally intended to be in the property industry. But she was highly passionate about her local community and social work, and this passion was carried by her when she entered real estate. Before SJ Shooter Real Estate came into establishment, she and her husband, Samuel owned their own music school. Closing it down, Samuel gave real estate a go and eventually left his job to start h...is own agency...from their home! Laura soon joined him for the ride and it was a tough but worthwhile journey to get themselves to where they are today. There are some fascinating stories in this podcast ep, including how they came up with their company values, finding their office, their recruitment process and even what their first Fair Trading audit was like! We hope you enjoy this episode, there are some great takeaways!

24.01.2022 We are so happy to share this weeks episode with Jacquie Love! Jacquie studied Fashion Design in university. During this, she picked up a sub-major in Journalism which exposed her to the subject of human trafficking. Exploring this topic for a project, she became more intrigued and wondered why this tragedy never got the media coverage it deserved. By chance, she was invited along to join a charitys visit to India to help rescue and rehabilitate girls who had fallen victim ...to sex trafficking. Upon returning home, her life had truly changed. She questioned her future. How can she help and what should she do? It was only after attending a conference focused on social enterprises that she decided to start her own, Secret Sisterhood As for what that involves...well, youll just have to listen to this episode! Hear about how this beautiful 25-year-old lady started a movement that supports the causes she is passionate about and represents gender equality!

24.01.2022 If you meditate regularly, are new to meditating or are even a little apprehensive to start meditating, we think you need to hear this weeks episode. Meet Jason Partington, Founder of Making Meditation Mainstream MMM is a global meditation movement created in response to escalating suicide rates and mental health challenges experienced in our communities. For example, on the 8th of September this year, @Lifelines 13 11 14 crisis line received 3,326 calls - the most in its 5...7-year history. Yep, thats in a single day. Jason and his team host free meditation sessions in the Northern Beaches. They are held during a beautiful sunrise and are livestreamed to the world. Its an incredible and powerful way to connect with nature, to ourselves and each other. Leanne caught up with Jason to talk about Jasons own experience with meditation, his reasons for meditating, how he started MMM, his advice for those who want to practise meditation and about his recent campaign called 28 for TWENTY EIGHT - Meditate for Mental Health (including how you can take part to support both meditation, mental health and Lifeline).

22.01.2022 Angela Avgerinos of LJ Hooker reached out to our podcast host Leanne Pilkington after listening to the Courageous Conversations episode with Fiona Blayney. For Angela, the act of having a courageous conversation was inspiring, as well as Leannes and RWIREs strong belief in the importance of coming together as an industry to lift and support each other, especially during these times. In this episode, Angela talks about the aforementioned topics and the defining moments in h...er life that affected and challenged her own attitudes and beliefs. From experiencing being assaulted in public as a teenager to being told by her own daughter that she loved vendors more than her own family, this is definitely a great listen that is honest and transparent.

20.01.2022 There are plenty of headlines youre seeing along the lines of "Melbourne shuts down" or "Melbourne lockdown". A more recent announcement Leanne heard on TV was "Melbourne in lockdown...is Sydney next?" What are you supposed to do when these sorts of messages are thrust upon you? Stop, breathe and take part in some useful thinking. Chris Helder Speaker, international keynote speaker and best-selling author of Useful Belief is this weeks #CourageousConversations guest. He t...alks to Leanne about his start in real estate and becoming a full-time speaker and trainer. He also delves into how he helps real estate agents and business people with the challenges brought on by the pandemic, his own experience with it, and his tips for shifting our mindset in such tumultuous times. When stimulus creates chaotic thinking, its time to bring in useful thinking instead. We hope you enjoy this episode!

19.01.2022 Were very excited to share this weeks #CourageousConversations episode with Vinh Giang, an entrepreneur, keynote speaker and magician. Before his speaking career, Vinh performed magic onstage to people all over the world, and built a successful online business that taught magic with around 50,000 users. The business won him the South Australian young entrepreneur of the year in 2013. Enjoying the showmanship element of magic, Vinh committed to his first professional speakin...g gig...and realised just how bad he actually was at public speaking to a crowd for the first time! You know as they say, though...practice makes perfect. Now with more practice, research and training, Vinh is an international keynote speaker who teaches communication classes virtually during this pandemic (a course which Leanne herself did recently!). The point is, he had to start somewhere and hone his craft, just like anybody else wanting to develop a new skill. Hear about Vinhs journey and what he has learned in this podcast. Enjoy!

19.01.2022 Meet Malaika Mfula, Program Manager at The Exchange i.e. the venue of our Sundowner Series @ The Exchange. Malaika tells us how The Exchange came about and what it seeks to achieve. It's not just a co-working space. It's a supportive and inclusive community. She also explains some of the initiatives within the space, including its sponsorship program 'Seats for the Brave'. Malaika doesn't just support businesses here in Australia. She also recounts her inspirational and life-...changing trip to Zambia for an internship, where she assisted a range of start-up women-led sales businesses. As you'll hear, the opportunities are certainly more challenging over there, but that doesn't mean they aren't possible! This is our last episode for 2020. Our podcast series will be on a temporary break and will resume in early 2021. Thank you so much to all of our listeners! We’ll see you next year!

19.01.2022 Amy Young is the Principal of Laing+Simmons Young Property, operating alongside her partner and fellow Principal, Matt Young. As a new female business owner in the middle of a pandemic, we were eager to hear about her real estate journey, what led to her decision to step up as a leader and the challenges associated with it. Amy has mostly been a PA within our industry, and is excellent at it. It was only until she heard the words of a property developer she supported that mad...e her stop and question her future. With 17 years worth of experience, she definitely had the potential to be a female business owner and bring a fresh perspective to leadership in her market area. Why stay in PA work when the opportunity to rise in the service of others as lead as a woman in real estate was there, all along? We hope you enjoy this weeks episode and Amys road to business ownership and success!

18.01.2022 Something we encourage is talking about the silver linings. Auctioneer Andy Reid was also encouraging similar discussion on social media through his series called The Silver Lining. It was a powerful platform for people in his network and beyond to share their perspectives and stories as a way to help navigate the current climate. How did this come about? Andy told us in this weeks podcast that he saw patterns in others that he himself was going through when suffering from a...nxiety and depression. With enough doom and gloom around to cloud anyones judgement, he helped provide breathing space and clarity for many people during this pandemic. This weeks podcast with Andy is highly recommended if mental health has been a tough obstacle to overcome for you personally. Andy shares his own experience with depression and anxiety, and the ways he dealt with it. Youll also hear about how Andy started in real estate, what lockdown was like living in Melbourne and what his plans are moving forward in the property space!

17.01.2022 WERE LIVE! Join our Catch Up now - its not too late! ;)

16.01.2022 This week on the Courageous Conversations podcast, we had Miriam Sandkuhler in the guests chair. Miriam is the CEO and Buyer/Vendor Advocate of Property Mavens, which happens to be Australias first franchised property advocacy agency. Miriam entered the property industry when she moved to Melbourne after both a previous career as a financial advisor back in WA, as well as a divorce. Not long after, her father passed away, which she says felt like her world was collapsing ar...ound her. On top of this, she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue having bearing the front of many things happening at once. Despite this, she pushed through and launched Property Mavens. How? She knew how to stand her ground, breathe deeply when things got tough, and she also chose to be empowered rather than just accept things for how they are. There are some fantastic lessons from Miriams journey in this weeks episode that you will definitely be able to learn from. Sometimes, all it takes is a courageous conversation with yourself to know your worth and make the choice that will change your life for the better. We hope you enjoy this episode!

15.01.2022 As you may know, Leanne Pilkington has been in the Presidents chair at the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales [REINSW] for quite some time. But even before her presidency, shes been on their Board for a while and has gotten to know the incredible Tim McKibbin, CEO of the REINSW. Tim started in the mining trade in Broken Hill, and then moved to Newcastle as an apprentice electrician. He eventually discovered he had an affinity for accounting! He learned the ropes of t...ax law in a Masters degree, including all things GST back when it was first introduced. After things fell through with a previous relationship and with a tax practice he partnered with, he moved to Sydney. A few more gigs later, he made the fateful decision to apply as a legal counsel for the REI...and the rest is history. If youre wondering what life is like as the CEO of the REI, this is a fantastic listen. Hear how Tim chooses and collaborates with his leadership teams, what he is passionate about fighting for when it comes to our industry, and what keeps him motivated as he works towards the pathway of professionalism.

It was during her second career that she met our founder, Leanne Pilkington. It was also during her second career where she was faced with u...nemployment very suddenly. For a while, Justine faced severe lack of confidence in herself. She also dealt with the realisation of having worked so hard she missed out on important family/life events. 10.01.2022 Sometimes you have to be at your lowest point to reach your highest point. In this #CourageousConversations episode, we hear about the journey of Sadhana Smiles from Harcourts Move and Harcourts Real Estate Australia. Things were seemingly great for her after moving to Sydney after a divorce. She was in a great career, earning a salary and could still see her children. But her lifestyle was hectic AND expensive behind-the-scenes as she travelled continuously without much breathing space. Eventually, Sadhana hit her lowest point and had a complete breakdown. How did she then turn things around in order to get her life back to its fullest and brightest? Hear the full story in this weeks episode!

10.01.2022 Community housing residents who want to purchase their own property can have a difficult journey ahead of them. TBut there is an organisation called which is helping families in community housing pursue home ownership. One of the directors of this group is Brooke Flint of FLINT Property - Buyers Agents and Sales Advisory Coach. Brooke has first-hand knowledge of this struggle. Her parents were in social housing for 6 months after she was born. They bought a home when she was ...6, but then divorced when she was 14. Brooke, her brother, and her mother moved up to the coast but had a hard time at the schools there. They moved back to Sydney in a tiny villa (where she shared a bedroom with her Mum) while having immense difficulty selling their original house. It is this personal journey that has motivated Brooke to help others navigate similar troubled waters; as a buyers agent, a property advisor, and as part of Head Start Homes. Hear her full story in this episode of the podcast!

09.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, we had Cathy Baker on our podcast who spoke very highly of her mentor, Jillian McGrath. And well, it was only fitting that we have her on the podcast too! Her story is incredible. Jillian began her career in real estate at 52 after 3 careers before this. From there, Jillian taught at TAFE, spoke at AREC in 2003, has undertaken charity work for Cambodia and has continued to mentor many fellow agents (like Cathy). You might be wondering...what has her motivation been for all of this? Apart from her creative vision board skills, it really comes down to her genuinely loving what she does, and wanting to give back to everyone around her. Hear her story in this weeks episode!

06.01.2022 Recently, Leanne Pilkington caught up with one of her high school friends, Alyssa Morley, the owner of Alyssas Kitchen. Were excited to have her on this weeks episode of #CourageousConversations to share her journey with us! Before she even began her cake business, Alyssa was in a corporate procurement role for many years and, while it was a secure and well-paid role, it was failing to make her feel truly content. On top of this, she was diagnosed with cancer, and underwen...t her fair share of medical procedures. Eventually she left corporate life, pooled her savings and wiped the slate clean; she went to cooking school at Le Cordon Bleu. Fast-forward and now she is running her beautiful cake making business. There is much she has learned along the way when it comes to following her dreams, believing in her gut and looking after her health - both physical and mental. Hear the whole story in this weeks podcast!

03.01.2022 "We can have it all, but we cant necessarily have it all at once." If theres one important takeaway from this weeks episode of Courageous Conversations, its this. Introducing Karen Chant, Real Estate Agent at Bob Berry Real Estate. As you will hear from the start, Karens diligence when it comes to her career is incredible. She is hardworking, committed and successful. However, even Karen has encountered her fair share of burnout and has had times where she had to put asi...de her career (temporarily of course!) Luckily, with some help from formulating a goals grid, having the wonderful Sherrie Storor provide her the coaching she needed, as well as implementing some much needed meditation, Karen has found a method that works for her, without getting absorbed in the rat race. Did you know she kicks off her working day at 10am? Find out exactly why this works for her in this episode and it might have you either rethinking your own schedule or learning something from it!

01.01.2022 This week, we welcome back Louisette Geiss (co-founder of RWIRELA) for #CourageousConversations. This will be our third episode with Louisette as we check in on the latest news with the Harvey Weinstein case and what things have been like for her personally since we last spoke to her in April. While the Weinstein case develops, Louisette has seen friends move out of LA to get away from the pandemic and the #BlackLivesMatters protests. She has also been coming to terms with ho...w this has impacted her and her family, and she has been witnessing changes in the real estate market that are very similar to ours here in Australia. But what has kept her going through thick and thin is a CD sitting in her car from motivational speaker Wayne Dyer, with one particular quote from him that continues to resonate with her each day: "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
