17.01.2022 This is a horrific article that supports the total nonsense and deciept that sums up ECT. Whilst the UK leading researchers, MH charities, and even the UK members of parliament are exploring the potential suspension of ECT due to the recent evidence that ECT causes harm and does evidence does not demonstrate is efficacy, in Australia we continue to force, coerce and manipulate people into believing that this 80 year old 'experiment' has any evidence to support its use and d...oes not cause harm. Psychiatrists provide misleading and unsubstantiated myths in the use of ECT, as they fail to have any meaningful positive, life affirming outcomes with their ivory tower 'treatments'. Whilst some people will tell you that 'ECT saved someone's life that I knew', this is not evidence, it is a view that has nothing to do with evidence. It may be based in the hope that the person we love or care about might feel different, but ECT does not 'treat' any 'illness'. Perhaps take a moment to reflect on being in an a very distressed and vulnerable space and someone making you unconscious to zap you with electricity! In my expereince childhood abuse feel less scary and overwhelming than having electricity put through my brain in the coercive way, that so many of us have experienced. And here we have a media source making yet more non-sense claims. Shame on The Conversation for its latest article that maintains the stigmatizing and power led positions of MH professionals that their 'treatments' are genuine scientific approaches to 'illness'. The previous article banded around from The Conversation following the horrendous ABC stigma show last week, stated that the evidence of genetic links for 'schizophrenia' are about to be provided...which of course was more utter rubbish - many decades of research have failed to provide this evidence...presumably because it does not exist? The sort of propaganda being peddled here is not far from hate speech in the way it convinces the public that harm from these actions is understandable and legitimate. It surely must be time that the institution of unfettered power of Psychiatry is held to account in Australia. Here in South Australia the relentless power over anyone that disagrees with Psychiatry means the erosion of meaning and safety in peoples lives and medication and CTO's are handed around like lollies in a candy shop. It is not medicine, it is not science. The mental health system in Australia is based on the opinion of an unregulated institution and is harming many lives. It surely is time for change - compassionate, community change! See more

11.01.2022 Hopes and dreams live amongst our realities. Tonight the Humane clinic - Psychotherapy, counselling, education & consultancy in partnership with Community Hea...lth Onkaparinga launched the Just Listening Community - 27th May 2021 However this project evolves, social change has begun. Trained volunteers providing deep listening and connection with others in response to peoples experience of living. Tonight demonstrated that opening an alternative to Emergency Depts or mental health services facilitated by community members, without involvement from public health services or large NGO's, are possible as a response to other community members. A Non diagnosis & non pathologising humane response based on mutuality and connection. We are so grateful to have been surrounded and supported to bring this project to life. The main image below shows posters of most of the core concepts of the Just Listening approach (on the wall in the main listening area) to offer Justice to individuals in distress or crisis: #dissociachotic https://youtu.be/bAIi9935VEM #ptmf https://www.bps.org.uk/power-threat-meaning-framework #suicidenarratives https://www.humaneclinic.com.au/suicide-narratives #compassionfocusedapproach Also acknowledging #Emotionalcpr as a core concept https://www.emotional-cpr.org/ The second image shows the community volunteers who were part of the change tonight. The third image shows the main listening area. The forth image shows a 'ecpr' room in the Listening Community with amazing art work by @Catherine paints featuring the words of the incredible Jo Watson https://youtu.be/rpFxKCZ9XJ4 Having been donated a building and #humaneclinic funding the set up costs over the past 12 months, we have been extremely grateful to receive so some funding from Fay Fuller Foundation that has supported us to launch in a sustainable way. The Just Listening Community is a free community facilitated alternative to mental health services and Emergency Dept for people in distress. Starting slowly we are opening three evenings a week and expanding as we gain more funding. One of the many inspirations behind the Just Listening Community is the movie #healingvoices that we showed in our community in 2016 and has provided the impetus for making change happen. Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours. César Chávez

10.01.2022 Politics or Connection, Compassion and Meaningful action? Just Listening Community demonstrating that despite politicians, psychiatry and mental health services continuing to serve one another, community is able and willing to support one another. We don't need more beds, doctors and nurses...we need human to human connection.

08.01.2022 Lastest books by one of the keynote speakers of ReAwaken Australia - Bernard Guerin. His work is awesome and speaks a narrative of change if we can embrace peoples experiences and not the dull and dispassionate pathologizing labels!

06.01.2022 Interesting to show the Premier of South Australia Steven Marshall around the Just Listening Community. Good to talk about the difference between medicalised a...nd non medicalised spaces for therapuetic support and present a genuine alternative to the mental health models in SA. Grateful that the Premier was willing to come to a 'new' project that sits outside the current paradigm. See more
