25.01.2022 So exciting to receive a handwritten note in the mail and even more exciting when it’s so lovely

25.01.2022 Meet my client Kerry looking fabulous and very Spring in her ladies-who-lunch outfit. I am loving her look, especially the wider leg linen pants with waist tie. A linen or a wide leg pant (or a combination of the two) is definitely something new for us to try this season. New shapes and fabrics are a great way to inject something fresh into our wardrobes. Wider leg pants can look amazing with a voluminous blouse (like Kerry’s) or structured shoulder (or something more subtle if you already have a broad shoulder/ large bust). Just make sure you tuck to show off your waist!

25.01.2022 I have spent A LOT of time in front of a laptop camera of late. Besides a quick burst when restrictions eased slightly in June and I could see clients face to face, it’s all been through a lens. When I’m not styling my personal clients, I am fortunate to work with an amazing organization called Fitted for Work. Here I get the opportunity to make a difference in the life of women experiencing disadvantage, which I have been lucky enough to continue with virtually in lockdown.... Here are 4 things I have learnt since lockdown about how to make an impact on camera... 1) Lighting: number 1 for a reason. It will make or break your call. I have rearranged the furniture is this room (pictured) on more than one occasion to get it right and when you do this it pays off. Not only do I think it takes 5 years off your age, it also creates a professional and confident presence on-screen. The trick is to have natural light BEHIND your device, artificial won’t cut it (and I estimate it ages you 5 years, especially the yellow kind). 2) Wear a bright something: I experimented with this phenomenon as I like to create an approachable and relaxed first impression with clients (remember it takes less than 3 seconds for the person on the other end of the camera to make up their mind about you). When I wore pinks, greens and purples it seemed to invite more open conversation and the recipient appeared more at ease. While something more harsh like black and white created a more authoritarian image and lacked warmth. The colour doesn’t need to be in your clothing, try a bold earring or necklace for the same effect. 3) Use lots of body language: smiling and hand gestures go a long way in video conversations. In addition, when you are a recipient and someone is talking to you, nodding and smiling is a great way to help the speaker feel at ease and listened to. For this reason I recommend having your camera on for all meetings no matter how big or small. 4) Dig deep into your make-up draw: I don’t wear a lot of make up but I have found a laptop lens a great way to experiment with colour. The lens dulls your complexion and make-up is hard to notice, so amp it up! Wear that bright lipstick you thought was a bit too fluoro or the eyeshadow that seemed awfully sparkly: it won’t be on-camera and in turn it will elevate your screen presence. Post me your at home in front of the camera selfies! I would love to see.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to my best friend of 26 years Belinda, for making the shortlist at the Women in Law awards for HR Professional of the Year. Looking truly amazing alongside her husband Roger (you look awesome too Rog). Belinda and I chose her outfit via FaceTime video consult and everything was purchased online. It took a couple of rounds but the end result was well worth it!

23.01.2022 Meet my lovely client Faith. She had nothing but kind words to say after her wardrobe consultation and with her photo shoot for her business, The Goals Hub only a few days later I have some great images of her to share. Read her review here.. I recently had a wardrobe consultation with Rebecca and all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you! I had no idea what colours suited me, what shape my body is and what clothes I should wear to suit that and, because of this, I go...t to a point where I hated shopping. If I ever did shop, I tended to buy the same things. Rebecca was amazing. She showed me the colours that suit me, what my body shape is and what style of clothes I should wear to suit my shape. She paired existing clothes in my wardrobe in a way I would never have considered, and as a result, I feel like I have a new wardrobe. She also provided me with a list of 'staples' to complete my wardrobe so I know exactly what to look for when I am shopping now. Since the consultation, Rebecca has been really generous with her time - following up on how I'm going and sending pictures of clothing items to consider. I have to say, the wardrobe consultation with Rebecca far exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it. The only problem was the time went too quickly and I didn't want Rebecca to leave!

22.01.2022 Meet my amazing client Helen. She has decided to take the enormous step of running her own landscape design business, Twig Garden Design. This is our hero photo I styled from her recent photo shoot with Karen Wilson Photography, capturing her true personality and love for all things nature. It was a pleasure working with you Helen and I wish you all the very best on your new endeavour. Please see below for Helen’s amazing new website by @crayoncreative.

17.01.2022 David Jones styling suite BEFORE I filled it with black tie gowns, fun casual tops, lots of jackets, jeans, knits, blouses and skirts. All ready and waiting for my client to try in cuts, colours and prices to suit. Lots of space and privacy and most importantly, carpet. Very successful day! Wearing old with new today. A Claudie Pierlot blouse I picked up on a recent trip and my wool pleat skirt I bought from an op shop when I was last pregnant (over 8 years ago). That was whe...n pleats first starting appearing on catwalk looks, a great example of the lifecycle of fashion. Catwalk to flooding the mainstream market can take 8 years! This winter season and coming spring has had the most pleated skirts yet and they’ll still be going strong in seasons to come. What I’m looking forward to flooding mainstream the most in the future..... bootcut jeans, maxi skirts and anything red!!

12.01.2022 Sorting through Mum’s wardrobe we came across this blazer I’m wearing here on the right... I actually handed it down to her in the late 90’s or early 00’s and as Mum likes to hold onto things she still had it! It reminded me of the new blazer cuts I’ve noticed this winter season, like this Veronika Maine one on the left. The difference with this shape is it has 2 buttons (instead of the more common 1 button) and the first button is slightly higher. Using this Veronica Maine styling as my influence, here is my interpretation of the trend I wore for work today (in front of my zoom calls)! I tried buttons undone but it was much more flattering done up. I’ll try this with a wider leg pant as well to mix it up! Do you have any hidden gems in your wardrobe?

12.01.2022 What work is looking like for me at the moment as we adjust to this new normal... Read what my lovely client Ange had to say about switching to virtual styling sessions, ‘I really enjoyed our online shopping experience. Due to current world circumstances, I needed a new ‘work wardrobe’ as I’m mainly at home now and I was terrified I’d slip into the PJ’s and dressing gown outfit all the time. It is impossible to get out and about and shop together in person at the moment, but ...this really was the next best thing! As we have done with our previous shops, it was great to be shown some styles I possibly wouldn’t have looked at myself, be pointed back towards colours that really suit my colouring, be reminded of the styles that will enhance my shape, as well as be shown some brands I’d never even heard of before! I also really appreciated your in-depth knowledge of the brands themselves, because knowing that they run small or large is an invaluable piece of knowledge to have when you are shopping online! I had a brilliant time and my online shopping carts have filled up fast, with clothes that I know will suit me and will really work for an ‘at home and over the internet’ working and personal life!’ See more

09.01.2022 Thanks for taking the time to share your experience Karen Fletcher..

05.01.2022 Meet my lovely client Olivia wearing her Oaks Day look we put together. As I handed her this dress to try during our shop it came with a huge frown and a ‘what are you thinking with this one?’ but being the open minded person she is, she tried it on and loved it! This is so common, I find interpreting how a garment will look on the body from the hanger is what I do well. The most common thing a client will say to me at the end of a shop is, ‘I would never have tried that on just looking at it on the hanger, but I love it’.

03.01.2022 My lovely client Natalie, showing us how she can mix and match her new purchases with existing items in her wardrobe. A few kind words from Nat herself. I love how a few new pieces, colours and patterns from my recent shop injected life and energy into my wardrobe, setting me up for an exciting new job. Working amongst a team of young and funkies, I felt confident and ready to take on a new chapter while staying true to me. Thanks again Rebecca!

01.01.2022 Welcome to Spring, the stores are ready for you! My client Sally making the most of some sunshine on the weekend.
