22.01.2022 Australia, thank you. We are genuinely blown away by your support for the thousands of people impacted by this bushfire emergency. We’ve been inundated by cal...ls and emails offering help, by businesses wanting to do their bit, by so many beautiful people sharing our posts. All of your generous donations and the inspiring stories of people helping people in these hard times are incredible. Thanks to you $19 million has been raised since New Year’s Eve for our Disaster Relief and Recovery fund. It’s helping now in the immediate aftermath, and will continue to support people and communities as they recover over the months and years ahead. See more

18.01.2022 Sometimes a teddy to call your own can make things a little better. These gorgeous handmade Trauma Teddies were waiting for children evacuated by air from Mall...acoota to the East Sale RAAF base this weekend. The teddies came with colouring books, crayons and notes written by kids from a local aftercare centre. It’s a small but important part of the support our volunteers have been offering people stranded in Mallacoota and after they’ve been evacuated. #TraumaTeddies #AustralianBushfires #NSWbushfires #VICbushfires
18.01.2022 Three important things we promise you. (1) All money donated to Disaster Relief and Recovery since July 2019 stays in Australia. It’s going directly to help pe...ople affected by the bushfires and any other disasters our country might face in the coming months. (2) Right now $30 million is committed to emergency grants for people whose homes have been destroyed, with further funds going to bereavement payments and more financial assistance being planned. (3) None of the money donated will sit idle but some of it is needed to support bushfire-affected communities in their recovery over the coming months and years. Here’s our plan: www.redcross.org.au/bushfirefunds

13.01.2022 On Monday, our team learned of a couple from Bellbrook, Kempsey, who lost their home in the fires. They were living in a small tent on their property, 30kms out... of town. We provided them with some immediate assistance, and on the same day had a call from a man in Lake Macquarie who wanted to donate a camper trailer and generator. This would be perfect to help the couple but we had no way of getting the camper to them. After a social media call-out, we had another volunteer with a tow bar offer to drive the camper to Bellbrook. There were tears from all when it arrived on Wednesday. The couple have said they’ll donate the camper and generator to someone else in need once they no longer need it. This is what it’s all about a true team effort, and a community coming together to help.
13.01.2022 So many of you are raising and donating funds. Your generosity is wonderful. Unfortunately, in times of disaster some people will try and take advantage of this... with fake fundraisers and scams. Know what to look out for and be careful about where you donate your money http://rcau.org/uRqz50xRQbO See more
09.01.2022 Australia, we love your generosity. And we’re hearing your questions. Here are some answers to your FAQs What’s the best way to help? Why don’t we receive/distribute goods or food? And most importantly, how are your donations making an impact? Read http://rcau.org/VHnm50xMc2V
07.01.2022 "I think listening is vital at the early stage. Listening to them and sometimes just smiling, just saying would you like a cup of tea. People will cry and they ...will break down and you can hold their hand or listen to their story, says volunteer Deb, who has been assisting at the Bateman’s Bay evacuation centre. Her own house was threatened in the fires, but once she felt the threat had passed she came to the centre to help. With tears in her eyes, she says you can’t overestimate the value of a friendly smile and a listening ear. It’s all about themIf they need me to be the listener, I’ll be the listener. If they need me to go and get their cup of tea, I’ll go and get their cup of tea. It’s actually an honour and humbling to be able to listen to someone’s story. Thank you to Deb and all our volunteers every hour you give makes a world of difference.
05.01.2022 Vital. Important. Grateful. There simply doesn’t seem to be the words to express just how thankful we are for our amazing volunteers and the work they’ve done. ...Whether it’s supporting people as they return to burnt communities, spending evenings and weekends processing emergency grant payments, or making outreach phone calls, they’ve put in a massive effort. Volunteers who’ve had their own homes threatened, who’ve cancelled holidays to help in evacuation centres, who are at the very heart of what we do: helping people get through some of the worst moments of their lives. Remember to look after yourselves and take a break (we know you hate to stop for even a moment!). Switch off and spend time with loved ones. We all know there are weeks, and maybe even months of work to come, with long hours away from family and friends. So, for lack of a better word, we simply say thank you. We’re so proud of you.
01.01.2022 You gave and continue to give generously. Thank you! Your donations are hard at work right now helping bushfire-affected communities. $15m for emergency cas...h grants to people who’ve lost their homes with more financial aid on the way. Providing shelter and relief supplies to people currently stranded, plus information and psychological first aid at evacuation centres. Investing in tailored recovery plans for the next three years, or as long as needed. You can be confident that: we’ll keep you informed of our plans and spending at every step the support costs to get this done will be less than 10 cents in the dollar and, to manage a response this big we’re: adapting as we go listening to what people need working in with the broader government relief effort.
