24.01.2022 Squatting After a century of lazy-boy chairs and comfortable toilets in the west, squatting is back in style. Sitting in a squatting position for even a minute ...per day can have profound effects on the body. This may be nothing new, but it’s worth discussing the reasons it’s so healthy. When the hips open through squatting, the sacrum and spine open. When the hips and sacrum are open, the warm life energy from the reproductive organs to fill the spine, the brain, and the nervous system. Endorphins are released in the brain and the endocrine system activate glands through out the body. It can be painful at first, but before long, the body opens up and flexibility returns. Start slow and hold a chair or lean against a wall and only go as low as you comfortable can at first. Over time, the other joints will open and the muscles and tendons will relax. 22.01.2022 Taoist thought holds that viruses, pathogens and the like pose no threat to a person with a strong immune system. If you are healthy there is little chance of c...ontracting an infection and if one is contracted there is little chance of it causing excessive harm. There are many ways by which Taoist exercises encourage the flow of health in the immune system. One way is to strengthen the spleen and the liver. The spleen is located under the left part of the diaphragm and it is an essential part of the immune system. It is thought of as a large lymph node, lymph nodes being central to the function of white blood cells which protect against infections. The liver which is located under the right part of the diaphragm has a myriad of functions, one of which being the production of about half the body's lymph. One way of stimulating the spleen and the liver is through breathing exercises. Deep diaphragmatic breathing massages the spleen and the liver ensuring the constant removal of toxins and the delivery of fresh oxygenated blood. This allows them to function at their fullest potential. Breathing exercises involve standing or sitting with a straight spine and inhaling by use of the diaphragm so as to expand the rib cage. As the diaphragm pulls downward it squeezes the upper abdominal organs, emptying them of blood. Then as you exhale and the diaphragm ascends fresh blood is drawn into the organs. By doing this daily for 5-10mins your spleen and liver will continue to function to their fullest potential and therefore reducing your chance of infection... See more

12.01.2022 Benefits of Taoist Standing Practice . Whether it’s called Iron Shirt Chi Kung, Zhan Zhuang, or I-Chuan, Taoist standing practices produce a number of health be...nefits. In a basic sense, these standing postures lead to great health and a structurally aligned spine and posture. Along with good diet, physical activity, and meditation, these standing postures can be a key part of Taoist exercises that lead to vitality and health. . When our body relies on the stacking method to hold itself up, the weight of the structure is supported by the bottom. The pelvic floor and organs can start to sag. When one practices standing, the structure is supported by overall connection and balancing the tension of the musculoskeletal system. Taoist methods of standing and moving chi kung teach the body to distribute its weight across the entire structure. . Physical benefits, in addition to those mentioned above, include: alter a weak structure into a strong structure, develop strong boundaries through the belt channel, internal chi pressure, detoxify, exercise organs and glands, pack energy into organs and fascia, root down to the earth, and generate energy flow in the meridians of the body. . Emotional benefits of Taoist standing postures include condensing chi into a manageable entity, changing negative energy into positive energy, ability to control ones energy rather than the energy scattering, abdominal breathing which slows down the nervous system, and a feeling of grounded-ness in one’s own body. . Spiritual benefits of standing practices build upon one’s ability to more calmly perceive life around them. When we see and feel connected to the rest of life, it is easier to see what we have in common. Shifting focus to common ground with life around us, mental chatter calms down, and compassion arise on its own. . 04.01.2022 Energy flows When We Relax . 1. The more we relax, the more energy flows. As we’re learning energy building and energy moving practices, the more we relax, the... more quickly we will progress in our learning. If we are stiff and tight, we can’t access our healing abilities and the channels won’t be open. . 2. Relaxing the mid-eyebrow (third eye) point helps the whole body relax. When the whole body is relaxed, energy can flow into the organs and bones. This rejuvenates the entire being. . 3. Smile to your Spine, see it wrapped in golden energy. Imagine it is healing, vibrating, and breathing on its own. Feel warmth in the spine and electricity glowing like a current. 4. Feeling energy is a sign of bringing presence and awareness into the body. The world is primarily perceived through the outer senses. Thus, we focus on the outer world and it takes effort to reverse this habit. Taoist meditations teach one to turn the awareness inward and awaken the inner senses. . 5. The spine is a major conductor of electrical energy in the body. It is a super highway of information traveling the length of the torso. Keeping the spine and vertebrae loose through taiji and qi gong allows one to feel energy with an inner awareness. If we can feel the energy of the spine, we can start to tune into the energies that connect to the spine; the energy of organs, glands, and the bones. . 6. Movement practices, like stretching, qi gong, and taiji allow us to practice maintaining an awareness of our centre of gravity. Focusing internally while moving externally helps us find balance with the world. If we can do this during a moving meditation, we can maintain a centered feeling in everyday activities.
