22.01.2022 The second day of the Greg Norman Junior Masters wasn't quite as productive as day 1 but our two reps have made the cut for day 3. Amy Hodgkins slipped to an 91 but qualified in 6th spot. Matthys Visser qualified in 13th spot after his 83. Good luck on the final day (Thurs)... After the abandonment of day 1, day 2 proved positive for the Reddies. Amy Hodgkins leads the 15 and under girls by three after returning a 1 over 72. This seems her in 2nd place in the net comp, just 1 off the lead. Matthys Visser is in 9th place in the 13 and under boys after an 80 which has him 8th in the net. Good luck on Wed on a damp Palmer Gold Coast

22.01.2022 This morning, the Premier made an announcement that the current lockdown of the Greater Brisbane area ends at 6:00pm tonight. This means that Clubs are permitted to re-open at 6:00pm on 11 January 2021 (therefore the pro shop will reopen at 5.00am and the Clubhouse will reopen at 8.00am on Tuesday 12th) However, while the lockdown has been lifted, some restrictions will still apply to Clubs in the Greater Brisbane area for 10 days until 1am on Friday, 22 January. The followi...ng restrictions will apply until 1:00am on Friday, 22 January 2021. Masks need to be worn by patrons attending the Club including the pro shop. The mask can be removed whilst on the golf course playing golf or seated at a table in the clubhouse. At all other times the mask must be worn. Patrons must be seated while eating and drinking. Patrons may still approach the bar and other self-service terminals and generally move about the Club to enter and exit, use the bathroom etc., but must be seated while eating and drinking; Government regulations state that the Club must revert to the one person per four square meter rule which means we can have a maximum of 65 patrons inside the clubhouse. Due to this the Friday night draw this Friday 15th January 2021 WILL NOT BE HELD IN THE CLUBHOUSE. All timesheets will be online this Friday night. Wednesday and Sunday at 6.30pm and Saturday at 7.00pm. The Chief Health Officer (CHO) has reminded all clubs how important it is to ensure contact tracing information is being gathered, in light of the current situation. Therefore it is imperative that all members and guests sign in via their phones or IPADS available at entry points to the clubhouse. If you have difficulty in signing in please see a staff member. The CHO has advised that if there are no cases of community transmission, the above restrictions will lift at 1:00am on Friday, 22 January 2021. If further information is required please contact the club via email [email protected] (preferred method of contact during this time due to the amount of calls being received)

15.01.2022 After two half-hour delays between which just 3 groups hit off, the final round of the Greg Norman Junior Masters was abandoned today due to torrential rain. This left the final results as they were yesterday with Amy Hodgkins finishing 6th in both the Girls' Under 15 gross and nett events while Matthys Visser was 13th in the Under 15 Boys' gross and tied for 10th in the nett. Bad luck for our two representatives but well done to both of them for their efforts this year.

14.01.2022 Procedure for GUR on Greens You will notice that some of our greens have repaired patches and these areas have been marked in white which designates them as Ground Under Repair (GUR). The following explains how to proceed if GUR interferes with your play. If a player’s ball is on a green and it lies in GUR or their stance is in GUR or the GUR is in the line of the putt, a player can choose to take relief by placing their ball at the nearest point of relief, no nearer the ho...le, where the GUR does not interfere with their stroke or stance or their line of putt. If a player’s ball lies in GUR or their stance is in GUR anywhere on the course, other than a green, a player can choose to take relief by dropping their ball at the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole, where the GUR does not interfere with their stroke or stance. Please note, there is not line of play relief in this case. Also note that if a player’s ball does not lie on the green, there is no line of putt relief from the GUR, even if they choose to putt from off the green. John Jayo

10.01.2022 Junior Championship Mathys Visser has won the 2020 Junior Club Championship with a 7 and 6 victory over Archie Cunningham in the 36 hole final. Whilst he was always in front, the margin seesawed as Archie refused to surrender. Finally, however, Mathys' consistency proved to be the clinching factor. Both boys will no doubt prove to be valuable representatives of the club in the future,... Congratulations to both of you for an entertaining match!!

10.01.2022 Captain’s Rule of the Week I see many players who believe that they can take free relief from areas that are worn or bare on the course or areas that have stones or gravel. Some believe that is the case because the item or material has been introduced or brought onto the course and that meets the definition of an obstruction.... According to the Rules of Golf the definition of an Obstruction is as follows: Any artificial object, except for integral objects and boundary objects. Examples of obstructions: Artificially surfaced roads and paths, including their artificial borders. Buildings and rain shelters. Sprinkler heads, drains and irrigation or control boxes. Stakes, walls, railings, and fences (but not when they are boundary objects that define or show the boundary edge of the course). Golf carts, mowers, cars and other vehicles. Waste containers, signposts, and benches. Player equipment, flagsticks, and rakes. An obstruction is either a movable obstruction or an immovable obstruction. If part of an immovable obstruction (such as a gate or door or part of an attached cable) meets the definition of movable obstruction, that part is treated as a movable obstruction. I have included the full definition of an Obstruction so you can see that just because stones and soils have been brought onto the course, for example to fill a hole caused by carts, this does not mean you automatically get free relief from them as they do not necessarily meet the definition of an obstruction. Stones and gravel are not artificial objects. They are loose impediments, which means you can move them, if you do not move your ball in the process. When stones and gravel are put together with the intention of forming a road or path, they become an obstruction. A tree stump is not an obstruction, but a tree stump formed into a bench is an obstruction. Deco used to form a road or path is an obstruction otherwise it is not. The message here is unless you can see an artificially surfaced road or path it is not an immovable obstruction. Wheel tracks that have formed a track, are not artificially surfaced, so they are not immovable obstructions. Worn areas leading onto bridges or paths are not immovable obstructions. I once read in a book written by Jack Nicklaus that he learnt at an early age that nowhere in the rules does it say that golf is fair. My advice is, if in doubt, play it as it lies.

10.01.2022 Earlier this morning, the Premier announced that as of 1am Tuesday, 29 June 2021 new restrictions will come into place.
