25.01.2022 October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month. Our amazing families and team are raising awareness for Rettsyndrome.org! We had such a fun morning playing in purple with our Red Frog friend Grace, her sister Haylee and mum Roxy. Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurologic disorder that leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of a child's life. Like Grace, a lot of Rett children experience Apraxia, the inability to perform motor functions. We're blessed to have the chance to be part of Grace's journey, watching her learn and grow.

24.01.2022 Fact 5 - Speech Pathology Week Communication disability is largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight. Speech Pathology Week (23-29 August) is the opportunity to make all Australians aware of those in our community who have a communication disability. Speech pathologists work to ensure everyone is communicating with confidence.

23.01.2022 This week our nature adventurers made our own version of a waterpark! We worked as a team to find the tarp, boxing bags, water and soap needed to make a slip and slide down the hill. The girls were so confident with their communication together throughout our time in the bush. They all remembered to take turns, encourage each other and problem solve without much help from the adults in the group. It was so nice to see the girls really enjoying each other’s company. This week we talked about the rules of our nature-inspired secret Santa which we will exchange in our last session. The girls have to make something out of reused/recycled items in the house, or other things in nature (think rocks, shells, leaves etc.). We love the idea of giving without harming the planet. We’re so excited to see what the girls come up with!

22.01.2022 It's R U OK Day, a reminder to start a conversation that could change a life today, tomorrow and any day it's needed. This year's message: There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say so you can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. Visit www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask... "You don’t need to have all the answers. Just letting that person know that you care and that they are worthy of being cared about is sometimes enough". - R U OK? Ambassador Lisa Nichols #RUOKDay #theresmoretosay #RUOK

21.01.2022 ALWAYS WAS ALWAYS WILL BE Here’s some photos from our NAIDOC celebrations last week. During NAIDOC week and every day of the year we acknowledge and thank the Awabakal people as the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn, and work everyday. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present, and emerging.

17.01.2022 Play is the main occupation of a child. It’s how a child learns and develops essential skills for everyday function. All therapy at Red Frog for Families is play-based because play allows us to target any therapeutic outcome in a fun and motivating way. Enter into children’s play and you will find the place where their minds, hearts and souls meet. Virginia Axline

16.01.2022 Last week was one of our Nature Adventurer’s birthdays! The girls enjoyed spending the afternoon outdoors celebrating one of their friends turning another year older. We talked through the ups and downs of everyone’s weeks, before planning some great activities for a party! There was dancing, music, and lots of party games. The girls are learning skills to support themselves and each other during tricky moments. It was nice to see the girls tuning in to and caring about each other’s emotions and feelings. We talked about how important this is when making and maintaining friendships.

16.01.2022 Welcome back to all of our Red Frog friends and families. We hope you all had a wonderful break! We are looking forward to seeing you back in clinic this week and next!

15.01.2022 Just a reminder that the clinic will be closed today while our team gathers to learn together and plan for how we can support our families. We can't wait to see our tadpoles as they return to regular appointments for Term 1, starting Wednesday 27th January.

14.01.2022 We are excited to share more from our Nature Adventure group! Our girls met again at Inspired EC for an afternoon in the bush with friends. This week we focussed on working together as a team and collaborative problem solving. The girls collected sticks and leaves to make a fire for toasting marshmallows. We were safe around the fire and enjoyed chatting about our week as a group while we ate. We talked about the roses (good things) and the thorns (bad things) and our girls showed interest and support for each other in both. Afterwards the girls created a cubby house. The girls needed to check-in with each other and make sure everyone contributed ideas and helped in the build. We are interested to see whether our cubby house will still be standing next week! Stay tuned to see what we get up to next in our Nature Adventure group.

06.01.2022 Regulation, engagement and attention. Three important foundation skills that we incorporate into our therapy practice at Red Frog for Families so that individuals can do the things they want to and need to do in life. By working on these areas, individuals are able to process their environment, engage with others, and attend to tasks, which overall improves their ability to function within their world. Regulation varies across demand and context. Maintaining and adjusting o...ur regulation involves matching our internal energy levels with the requirements of our environment- for example the amount of energy required to play basketball is different to sitting at a desk writing a story. There are sensory and emotional components of regulation that we consider in occupational therapy. These components impact our ability to engage with others and attend to our world, and are therefore the place that we start when working with individuals.

05.01.2022 Another week of adventuring in nature! The girls had another lovely afternoon spending time as a group. We focused on friendship this session and reflected about things we have enjoyed doing with each other and things that we like about each other. We’re looking forward to our next session but feeling a little sad it is our last one, it has been so much fun!
