21.01.2022 Congratulations to our team leader Tim Darch on a great presentation on the Manchester short orthosis for zone I/II flexor tendon repairs at the Australian Hand Therapy Conference
20.01.2022 Happy OT week everyone! We are proud to be a part of the OT community. Here we specialise in the area of hand and upper limb therapy but often find ourselves educating inquisitive patients on the many wonderful areas of OT. Thank you @otaust for producing this video #thisisot
17.01.2022 It’s warming up here in Perth and today we had our first melted splint of the season, a hand therapists nightmare! Please remember thermoplastic material softens with heat, so avoid leaving your splint in your car and long periods of direct sunlight
16.01.2022 This patients wrist flexion and extension were both very limited following distal radius ORIF and SL repair. We trialed a removable outrigger to allow mobilisation in both directions while maintaining a better line of pull and targeted torque application. They have gained 15 degrees extension and 20 degrees flexion in 4 weeks @ Perth, Western Australia
16.01.2022 Patients always ask why we have buckets of pasta and rice at the clinic! We regularly engage patients in graded exposure programs to reduce hypersensitivity following injuries with nerve involvement. This enables return of functional use of their hand
15.01.2022 This patient is two weeks post zone T2 FPL and RDN/A repair performed by @doc2hand. She is completing a gentle, isolated IPJ flexion exercise to promote FPL glide and reduce adherence during scar formation.
15.01.2022 Here the patient is completing dorsal wrist vibration, targeting the radial extensors. Its intended to stimulate afferent muscle spindles and cortical areas associated with kinesthesia, prior to engaging in movement based exercises.
14.01.2022 Great to see this patient progressing so well only 2 weeks post IF FDP zone I repair, treated with the Manchester protocol
14.01.2022 Happy hand therapy awareness week! Starting by celebrating orthosis fabrication. Returning to occupation drives our treatment and orthoses fabrication is a method often required to during rehabilitation to achieve return to occupation. Its an important skill which hand therapists take pride in and continually work to improve on!
14.01.2022 Interactive meeting today reviewing casting methods and discussing pathology of contracture and tissue growth and reorganisation. Casting is great for maximizing TERT but currently there are no guidelines for how often a cast should be changed. We usually change around 3-4 days and increase and improvements plateau. What do you do? @ Redimedredimed

12.01.2022 A finger based dynamic flexion orthosis to increase this patients passive DIPJ range of motion @ Perth, Western Australia
12.01.2022 Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from the REDIMED Hand Therapy team

09.01.2022 Happy hand therapy awareness week from the OTs at REDiMED So great to see so many helping to spread the word! Hand therapy is one our of passions and we love being able to rehabilitate patients back to theirs. We believe some of our most important roles are patient communication and education, clinical assessment and image interpretation and skilful implementation of varying treatment methods including orthoses fabrication, scar and oedema management, desensitisation and exercise prescription but the list goes on!
09.01.2022 The thumb MCPJ joint is unfortunately a frequent victim of sporting injuries. Following a period of rest and protective orthosis wear, tape can be used to provide some support while facilitating return to sport.
09.01.2022 Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is one technique we use to improve joint range of motion when muscle tightness is present. Here the contract relax technique is being demonstrated to increase wrist flexion. The wrist is moved passively into the agonist pattern then the patient contracts the antagonists isotonically against resistance, this is then repeated.
09.01.2022 Big thanks to our Senior Occupational Therapist Tim for running a masterclass on dynamic mobilisation orthoses for flexion during our meeting today! Cant wait to apply these principles with our patients.
08.01.2022 Some of our Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team suited up and had a go at being a Drillers Offsider today. Thanks very much to the team at Swick Mining for showing us the ropes! It is great to see first hand what our patients do day to day!
08.01.2022 A great outcome five months following a comminuted intra-articular distal phalanx fracture which @doc2hand fixated using volar and dorsal buttress plates!
06.01.2022 One of our surgeons @doc2hand and therapists have traveled to Nepal as part of a burns contracture release mission with @openheartintl with an amazing team of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, a physio and hand therapist. Swipe to see an amazing before and after for a little girl with a complicated radial syndactyly @ Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital
05.01.2022 Another important part of our job is scar management. This patient has had an ear clip fabricated for compression post removal of a large keloid scar.
05.01.2022 We commonly treat PIP joint fracture/dislocations following sporting injuries. This nasty one occurred playing football and was successfully enlocated in the Emergency Department. What structures do you think could be affected and how would you treat it?
05.01.2022 You cant miss this bright orthosis! The surgeon requested a hinged elbow brace to restrict end range extension following a tight distal biceps repair. We have fabricated the components with maximum surface area to prevent sliding and increase comfort.
02.01.2022 Looking forward to a great weekend learning all about the neuroscience of pain with @noigroup!
01.01.2022 Rob showing us a simple but effective reactive muscular activation exercise with a balloon and flexbar
