22.01.2022 A lovely day for tennis in the Redlands for this annual event between RLTA, Gold Coast, Beenleigh, and Beaudesert. The winner this year was the Gold Coast. Well done to all teams for a great day played in great spirit. more photos to follow shortly

22.01.2022 Vale Keith Collyer It is very sad to have to report that Keith Collyer, a life member of the RLTA, passed away on Wednesday 23rd December, a month short of his 90th birthday. Keith had been admitted to Princess Alexandria Hospital with urgent heart issues but never recovered from the surgery. Keith was a larger than life character around our tennis club and up until a couple of years ago, had been chief voluntary Caretaker/Groundsman for our centre for about 15 years. ... Keith was adamant there was to be no funeral, but for those RLTA friends who wish to pay tribute and share some memories of Keith, we are holding a wake at the Tennis Clubhouse at 3:30 pm next Wednesday afternoon (30th December). Tea and coffee will be available and the bar will be open. Bringing a small plate of food would be appreciated.

21.01.2022 Such a phenomenonal day today with our inaugural HandiCup (handicap doubles event). The event that gives everyone the chance to win. 32 pairs of varying ages, genders and abilities battled it out to have their names etched in RLTA history. And after 6x full matches, Angela & Jake Bartlett were crowned champions for 2021, defeating Gary & Rory Priaux 6-4 in the final. Greatest of thanks to:... McCarthy Durie Lawyers for donating the trophy. Adrenalin Tennis team for helping to organise the event. RLTA committee for all the catering. Stay posted for all the action shots from the day later this week.

21.01.2022 RLTA Saturday Afternoon Fixtures The RLTA tennis final being played on Saturday 7th December was the culmination of many closely fought matches over the second half of the year. The semi-finals the previous week saw Marks Masters sneek home in a cliff hanger over Clives Crusaders, the result coming down to the last set of the day. On the other court, Ians Immortals proved too strong for Daves Pelicans who were missing their main strike weapons (Dave was Roaring, Di was i...njured and Harry was saving Australia from stinkbugs). Their substitutes toiled hard but were no match for the legendary Immortals. Last Saturday started out hot... bloody hot. At stake was not only the Saturday afternoon fixture championship but also, as it turned out, the RLTA House Championship (the Red and Yellow teams were just a few points apart). Time was of essence as the results were needed for the annual presentation night starting at 6.30 Saturday evening. To this end, two courts were used so that players would have the opportunity to recover from the heat of battle and the sun between sets and the match would still be decided with time to spare. The protagonists Marks Masters and Ians Immortals represented a rematch of the final played at the end of the first season which was won by the Masters. The message from the Immortals captain was to learn from the past. Both teams were clearly focussed and the games were long and close. At the half-way mark, the scores were two sets each but with the Immortals two games to the good. You could cut the tension with a knife. Into the second half of the match and first two sets were again split, but this time, the two game advantage had grown to eight games. Scoreboard pressure was building. But Mark had it sorted... two sets to go... win both 6-2 and we tie on games but win on sets... simple. John and Mende were given the job to do for the Masters and after three games that must have taken a total of 25 minutes to complete were leading 3-0. It was time for the Immortals Robbie and Marg to turn the tide. Another 20 minutes of battle and the Masters won the set 5-3, not quite the 6-2 that was asked of them, but it certainly gave them hope. The equation now came down to Mark and Tony winning 7-1 against Ian and Steve, a monumental task but still within the realms of possibility having beaten them 5-3 in the first set of the day. At the end of the day, it was over after 2 games that each went the way of the Immortals and the Masters disappointment was evident in the final score which was 7-1, but to the Immortals. One might be tempted to say that "tennis was the winner" but no one can deny that the Immortals were deserved winners on the day and the Yellow House were winners for the year.

04.01.2022 TSQ Senior of the Year for 2019 At last nights Annual Queensland Dinner in Busselton, President Gail Bates announced that the recipient of the Tennis Seniors Q...ueensland Senior of the Year for 2019 is Ian Somers. Ian is a tennis tragic who plays regular tennis fixtures in the Brisbane Seniors competition whenever he is not hiking through the European Alps with his wife Jan. He first represented Queensland at the Australian Championships on the Gold Coast in 2004 and was hooked. He has not missed an opportunity to be part of this wonderful event since. He may not be the most talented players to represent our State but he is definitely one of the keenest (Ians words) and with the help of some very talented team mates has certainly won his share of medals (9 now after this week). But what many wont know, Ian has other talents that help keep the wheels of Tennis Seniors Queensland turning. He has been the one who has been responsible for our website for the past 15 years and for those at the Australian Championships, he is the one behind the camera lens taking photos for the website and our Facebook page.
