08.01.2022 *Spaces still available for the Uni Rooftop Star Disc Night Thursday the 17th September* Have you purchased a Star Disc from the Planetarium? Are you keen to l...earn how to identify the current constellations in the night sky? We are holding nights dedicated to sitting outside on the rooftop of the planetarium building* and going through the constellations on the disc as our astronomer points them out in the night sky with her green laser. The second half of the session will be done in the planetarium and will focus on the constellations that can’t be seen in a light polluted sky. This is a 2 hour session. Here’s what you’ll need to bring: - a star disc ($20 each, available on the night prior to 6:30pm) - a small torch with a red balloon/red cellophane over the light. This is an absolute must for anyone wishing to attend the night. (I find cutting a red balloon and stretching it over the torch works best. If using cellophane at least 2 layers needed. Secure in place with rubber bands instead of tape) WHITE LIGHT WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT ALL - a fold out chair for each person - thermos of coffee/tea, snacks for the rooftop part. Please note that food and drinks will not be permitted into the planetarium. Sessions for September: (October sessions announced 1st week of September) Thursday 17th Saturday 19th Wednesday 23rd Friday 25th Arrive at 5:45pm to pay for tickets and buy a star disc, and meet at 6:15pm for rooftop access. Sessions begin at 6:30pm sharp. As we have to be seated during dusk, no late comers will be allowed on the roof after 6:30pm. Bookings opening from Monday 24th August 2020 on the Adelaide Planetarium website: https://www.unisa.edu.au//galleries-/adelaide-planetarium/ Reserve your seats through our booking system but payment will be taken on the day in case we need to cancel due to bad weather. Tickets $20 per person. Seats limited to 26 due to covid. Registrants will be notified of any cancellations 12-24hrs prior of event starting time. *Weather permitting.
