22.01.2022 Older women have been recognised as the fastest-growing group of homeless people in Australia in recent years. Yet until now we have not known exactly how many older women are at risk of homelessness. Research just released finds about 240,000 women aged 55 or older and another 165,000 women aged 45-54 are at risk of homelessness.

22.01.2022 Trigger Warning: Strangulation Qld must change the legislation Sect 315A And let’s be clear: the so-called rough sex defence is not gender neutral. The sex is rough for women, not men. Rough sex depicted in pornography and in practice is marked by gender asymmetry. It is overwhelmingly women who are on the receiving end of this violence and whose health and very lives are on the line. For example, women are two to four times more likely than men to report having experi...enced strangulation, a powerful predictor of intimate femicide. https://policyoptions.irpp.org//the-misogyny-of-the-so-ca/

20.01.2022 Important Research for those who work with men who use violence ...

19.01.2022 Active confrontation of other men for sexism, bias, harassment, and all manner of inappropriate behavior may be the toughest part of male allyship. It is also utterly essential. For many men, challenging masculine workplace norms is where the cost of allyship gets real in a hurry. We define confrontation this way: Bringing sexism and exclusion of women to the attention of men who knowingly or unknowingly instigate and perpetuate these attitudes and outcomes in their words and actions. #HeForShe

07.01.2022 Coercive Control: Lets Have A Considered Conversation Most people working across domestic and sexual violence are familiar with the work of Ellen Pence who pioneered the work that is now known as the ‘Duluth Model’. Included in this work is the Power and Control wheels which describe various tactics of domestic abusers which can, in many cases do, lead to high risk high harm domestic violence including homicide. The Power and Control wheel includes coercive control not as so...mething to be seen in isolation to other tactics but as an integral part of the overall dynamic of abuse. The Power and Control wheel has been incorporated into training, community education as well as the core curriculum for many men’s behaviour change programs for many years. Coercive control sits alongside male privilege and the proprietary right abusive men have over their partners. Now there are calls for coercive control to be criminalised in Australia largely based-on specific legislative responses introduced across the UK. Tasmania is the first Australian State to do this. Is this the answer to high, risk high harm domestic violence.stop it before it escalates or are the unintended consequences and systemic barriers being ignored and dismissed. The Red Rose Foundation believes it is now time to have a considered conversation on this. Please join us for this free webinar 1st December 9am (Qld Time) https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_S6wubbS5QTudZol5NVaRZg

01.01.2022 The Red Rose Foundation are hosting a webinar on Tuesday with the aim of having a Considered Conversation on coercive control. Will criminalising coercive control increase women’s safety? Or will it bring more victims into a flawed system that leaves so many victims broken and traumatised years after the initial incident ?... What are the implications for marginalised women? How do we priorities women’s safety at every single point of contact no matter where they go? Qld DFV Death Review reports show power and control indicators were present prior to a homicide in 42% of cases. Qld DFV Death Review reports also show one of the biggest factors prior to a homicide was the failing of various elements of the service system to adequately access and respond to high risk domestic violence https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au//repeated-emotional-abuse
