19.01.2022 More new work from the ReFire Project artists! Now that ReFire has finished, the Ration Shed Museum is preparing to launch their pottery output under a new, but familiar name: Barambah Pottery, as a tribute to the original pottery in Cherbourg that closed 30 years ago. You may have seen some of that work at the Barambah Pottery Exhibition, which toured Childers Art Space- ChArts, Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery, and SLQ kuril dhagun in 2016. To order commissions or express interest in the pottery, please contact [email protected]!
19.01.2022 Meet ReFire Project artist Kane Brunjes! At just 19 years old, Kane is the youngest ReFire artist. He lives in Goomeri and works at Cherbourg Hospital. His mothers background is the Gunggari people (from the area around Mitchell), and his father is of European descent. Kane gravitated towards art because he enjoyed his highschool art classes, and admired his art teacher at Toowoomba Grammar School. He embraced the freedom to create whatever you want in art, and continues t...o be guided by that ethos. Kanes style reflects his interest in graffiti art and tattoo designsabstract and free-flowing organic lines and patterns that seem to grow out of botanical forms: I begin with a base sketch thats just an outline, then I develop it from that and sometimes it turns into something completely different. It just depends on my mood. See more of Kanes work at ReFire Project | FireWorks Gallery from 1-5 November! #refire #refireproject #refirepottery #refirepotteryproject #ceramic #ceramics #ceramicart #indigenous #indigenousart #indigenousaustralianart #indigenousaustralia #aboriginal #aboriginalart #functionalart #australia #australianart #australianartist #kanebrunjes #cherbourg #cherbourgart #rationshedmuseum #yiddingartists #yiddingartstudio #creativeenterprise #culturalenterprise #fireworksgallery #abcnews #nitv

10.01.2022 At the start of last year, with the support of Arts Queensland, we began ReFire Project: an initiative to bring creative ceramic production back to Cherbourg, almost 30 years since the closure of the original Barambah Pottery. With a team of local artists, based in the The Ration Shed Museums Yidding Art Studio, enough outstanding work was produced for three very successful exhibitions at The Ration Shed Museum, Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery, and Fireworks Gallery. With the help of local and national news coverage from ABC Brisbane, ABC News, and NITV, donations of pottery equipment (wheels, kilns, tools, paints and more). By the end of next week, this patch of dirt will be home to The Pottery House, which, with some love and renovations, will become a fully-functioning pottery studio and gallery!

03.01.2022 Our friends at AndAlso Books are looking for local and regional writers to contribute to a book of creative non-fiction short stories about the Spanish Flus spread through Queensland in 1919. They are keen to hear from writers in central and north Queensland who can tell stories from their own local areas, especially Indigenous writers who might be willing to tell stories about the terrible tragedies the flu brought into Barambah (now Cherbourg) and Taroom (now Woorabinda, Queensland). Stories will be between 3,500-5,000 words, and writers will be paid for their involvement! Submit your EOI at the link below, or email your EOI/proposal to [email protected] by February 24 2018!

01.01.2022 Meet ReFire Project potter and tutor Fay Stumm! Fays role in Refire was to throw and fire the pots, as well as to advise the artists on the use of new mediums and techniques, and guide and encourage them through the project. Fay: At the first workshop I was amazed by the accuracy and confidence of the artists line drawing ability. Each line is deftly drawn with a flourish of the brush, with no need for corrections: designs that just eventuate, designs that come from within..., designs that just seem to roll out from the brush onto the plates. The ReFire artists are artists in the true sense of the word. They are proud of their culture and proud of their painting ability. Each painting depicts a story and now those stories have been brightly painted on pottery for all to enjoy. I was pleased to find that Rocko and Maurice have retained brush skills learned at Barambah Pottery and are a delight to watch at work. I did not know what to expect from these artists at the beginning of this project, but to say I have not been disappointed is an understatement. There is a wealth of talent amongst these artists that should be encouraged and nurtured. As the younger generation learn and add modern techniques to traditional Indigenous style a whole new style is being born. I would like to believe that this project is just the beginning of something big for these artists. See the incredible work the ReFire artists produced at the ReFire exhibition at Fireworks Gallery from 1-5 November (opening event and opportunity to meet the artists on Saturday 4 November from 1-3pm). #refire #refireproject #refirepottery #refirepotteryproject #ceramic #ceramics #ceramicart #indigenous #indigenousart #indigenousaustralianart #indigenousaustralia #aboriginal #aboriginalart #functionalart #australia #australianart #australianartist #faystumm #cherbourg #cherbourgart #rationshedmuseum #yiddingartists #yiddingartstudio #creativeenterprise #culturalenterprise #fireworksgallery #abcnews #nitv
