24.01.2022 Mark Olsen is no stranger to ART he has previously been the Convention MC on multiple occasions and is extremely generous with sharing his knowledge and experience with our delegates. We’re thrilled to have Mark join us as a presenter for our virtual Convention this year where he will be speaking about crisis management. Mark joined Tourism Tropical North Queensland as the CEO 12 months ago after 25 years in the tourism and hospitality industry. Starting his career in the ...90’s washing dishes to nine years at Tourism Queensland, then a decade running an international tourism consultancy working in over 70 countries, was good preparation for the challenges of regional tourism. It has been an ‘interesting’ first 12 months in regional tourism as the industry rode the rollercoaster of aviation seat capacity losses, bushfires, coral bleaching and COVID-19, an experience Mark is happy to share with the tourism network. #ARTC20 See more

11.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE: Frustrations are now brewing around the perception that tourism in regional Australia has recovered, when the overly optimistic sentiment could not be further from reality. ART Chair Coralie Bell said just this time last year, regional tourism businesses were in the depths of a bushfire crisis, devastation that was faced on the back of prolonged drought, and quickly followed by floods and then COVID-19. "Positive signs are visible in some destinations, with bus...inesses experiencing good trade over the recent summer weeks, but the goal of 'recovery' is far from achieved," Ms Bell said. "There have been enough handouts, we want to see the industry come out of bushfires and COVID-19 stronger and ready to thrive - not just survive until the money stops!"
