25.01.2022 Q: Im 37 years old, single and child-free. I hope to get married, but that is not Gods plan for my life right now. Anyway, I came up with an idea to have a co...mmittee/organization etc. geared toward anyone thats beyond the young adult age at my parish. The vision was all inclusive, to bridge the gap between married and single people. I and my pastor discussed plans. When he asked if I wanted to lead the group, I said Id e-mail him after some discernment. So I e-mailed him and got no response. I found out via the parish bulletin that a married woman with children is leading the committee. The pastor never answered my e-mail. After all this Im not quite sure what to do with my parish and the Catholic Church. Scripture doesnt marginalize singles, but it appears that my parish does. Why should anyone support an organization or religion where married people are revered and single people are peasants? Whats the message Im supposed to learn? Ive talked to God about this and discerned my next steps, but theres no answer from above. I know this issue plagues parishes throughout the U.S. Is there anything I can do? S. 23.01.2022 Luke 8:1-3 MARY MAGDALENE, JOANNA, SUSANNA AND THE WOMEN WHO SUPPORTED JESUS Luke pauses his Gospel to list the women by name who supported Jesus and His discip...les. Too often people's service is taken for granted. Gratitude's too rare. It'd be beautiful if Luke thanked those who had fed him. It's even more wonderful that Luke thanks people who never fed him personally, but had fed Jesus and His disciples. In Luke's spirit, I want to thank everyone who has supported me in following Jesus, whether by prayers, sacrifices, insights, friendship or gifts. Like Luke, I'm also thanking everyone who serves Jesus' disciples. If you're reading this, I'm appreciate you. Thank you. #100WordHomily for September 18 PS. This isn't a generic statement. If you're curious to know what I'm specifically grateful to you for, feel free to ask!

14.01.2022 Today is the feast of an apostle: St Bartholomew as named by Matthew, Mark and Luke; St Nathanael as named by John. Today's Gospel relates his first encounter w...ith Jesus. Philip introduces Jesus as the promised Messiah, but Nathanael knows the prophecies speak of Bethlehem, hence his scepticism: "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" He may be sceptical, but he's also sincere our Lord recognises Nathanael as "an Israelite without guile." Sincerity mixes well with God's grace, producing deep faith. Nathanael is the first apostle to make an explicit confession of faith in Jesus: "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Many years later, Bartholomew died a cruel and torturous death: skinned alive and beheaded. He is often depicted in art holding his flayed skin Marco d'Agrate's 1562 sculpture, in Milan's Duomo, is an especially grisly example. Bartholomew's eternal fate, however, is much happier. He numbers among the Twelve, who are seated on Heavenly thrones. From there they intercede for us, praying especially for the bishops: their apostolic successors. Let's join with St Bartholomew today, following Pope Francis's advice, "pray for your bishop from the heart. Ask the Lord: 'Lord, take care of my bishop; take care of all the bishops and send us bishops who are true witnesses, bishops who pray and bishops who help us, through their preaching, to understand the Gospel. To be certain that you, Lord, are living. You are among us.'" Join a Dial-in Rosary at midday, which will conclude with a litany for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. We'll pray for an end to the COVID pestilence, for the grace of conversion, and any intentions left in the comment thread below. 12pm Angelus, Rosary, and Litany for the Holy Souls. On Facebook Live, or www.moynecatholic.org.au.

11.01.2022 Friends, yesterday I spent the whole day at the Mission Santa Ynez offering Mass, praying the Rosary, and defending the legacy of St. Junipero Serra from protes...tors demanding the removal of his statue from our church property. The day ended peacefully. Please pray for the Friars and parishioners of Mission Santa Ynez and even for these protestors.

06.01.2022 Matthew 25:1-13 THE FOOLISH BRIDESMAIDS Everyone wants weddings to be beautiful. In Jesus' time, ten bridesmaids would accompany the groom's arrival. They would... hold their lamps around him, making his face radiant. Five bridesmaids planned to honor the groom... but only if he came right now. They weren't prepared to still make him shine no matter what. When he was delayed, they'd run out of things to honor him with. Sadly, the wedding became a little less beautiful. Enjoy God's graces when they come. But also record them, store up light. Then, even if darkness and delay comes, He will still shine in your heart. #100WordHomily for August 28 See more

03.01.2022 I would like to pay tribute to former NSW Premier John Fahey after the sad news of his death at the age of 75. Just last November, I presented Mr Fahey with the... Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Gregory the Great in recognition of his great service to the Catholic Church, as Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University and to state and federal politics where he promoted a pro-life message on abortion and euthanasia. He was a man of strong faith, devoted to his family and my prayers are with his wife Colleen, his children Matthew and Melanie and grandchildren Campbell and Amber whom John and Colleen raised after the tragic death of their daughter Tiffany in a car accident. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace. A state funeral for John Fahey will be held at St Mary's Cathedral on a date to be confirmed.
