09.01.2022 RIDA is a privately run body with the aim of supporting and revaluing the profession and practice of Interior Design in Australia. We would like to gather support for the implementation of mandatory certification/registration for all interior designers in Australia. We would also like to implement legislation which restricts the use of the word Interior Designer to those registered under the appropriate registration body. It is time that the profession is validated and recog...nised in Australia and institutions who educate in the field are regulated and mandated under legislation. Short courses that offer Interior Design should be restricted to being a stepping stone to higher education options and registration/certification should be limited to those who hold a bachelor degree or equivalent. The USA has regulated Interior Design in 26 States with proposals to regulate it nation wide. Architecture has been regulated by the RAIA since 1930 and it is time that Interior Design is too. Let us stand together as a profession and revalue the practice of Interior Design.

08.01.2022 Developing mandatory registration for Interior Designers. Restricting the use of the words 'Interior Designer' to those registered under the required legislative body for Interior Designers. We aim to mandate higher education (bachelor degree) or the equivalent for Interior Designers. We want to revalue the profession and challenge existing perceptions perpetuated by social media and television. ... We stand to change the belief system that Interior Designers are limited in their knowledge and restricted to 'picking paint finishes' or 'cushion colours'. We want to clarify existing confusion about the capabilities of Interior Designers. By developing mandated registration/certification policy we are ensuring that our profession is protected.
