18.01.2022 How does your income compare? This ABC News tool shows you where you sit on Australia's income ladder. A recent study by The Australian National University found almost 95% of people had misconceptions about either the level of inequality in Australia or their position in the national income distribution. While this tool can't adequately define class brackets as it doesn't look at factors such as assets or cultural capital, it is a great interactive tool to see where you and... your neighbours fit in relation to income distribution. - 75% of top income earners are male - Indigenous people are greatly underrepresented, making up less than 1 per cent of the top-earning bracket #auspol #IncomeInequality https://www.abc.net.au//201/income-scale-australia/9301378

14.01.2022 The wealthiest 20% of Australians have left the rest behind, while the recent tax boost will see the largest benefits flow to higher-income earners through a flattening of the tax system. Ultimately, wealthier Australians will pay less due to a combination of changes to tax offsets and income thresholds. Although this group mostly missed out on the benefits of stage one, in four years' time they will be the big winners. 02.01.2022 The Dan Andrews State Government of Victoria has announced they will spend $1.8 billion on expanding prisons. This public money would be better spent on evidence based approaches focused on early intervention, prevention and ongoing support. Diversion is proven to prevent people going back to prison, with current diversion programs seeing the reoffending rate drop to about 10% Due to the Governments own draconian bail laws, in April 2019 just under half of all women and about... a third of all men in Victorian jails had not been sentenced for any crime and women have become the fastest growing population in Victorias prisons. Many women in prison are themselves victims of crime. When a woman has turned to drug use to self-medicate for family or sexual violence, she should not end up in prison, she should get the counselling and drug rehabilitation support that she needs. There is something deeply wrong with the justice system when our prisons are filled with people who need help" said Federation of Community Legal Centres CEO, Serina McDuff See the public statement from the Federation of Community Legal Centres Victoria https://www.fclc.org.au/public_statement_on_prison_expansio #auspol #governmentservices #accesstojustice
