16.01.2022 October is ADHD Awareness Month. It is estimated that approximately 7.2 percent of children worldwide have ADHD, while about 3.4 percent of adults are estimate...d to have diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD. Did you know: ADHD is an inaccurate and potentially corrosive name. The term ‘deficit disorder’ places ADHD in the realm of pathology, or disease. Individuals with ADHD do not have a disease, nor do they have a deficit of attention; in fact, what they have is an abundance of attention. The challenge is controlling it. https://www.google.com//attention-deficit-disorder-va/amp/ EDITED TO ADD: I am NEITHER a diagnostician, nor a Psychologist. I’m a Special Education Teacher with a passion for sharing information about something very commonly misunderstood. #knowledgeispower (Graphics/Comics: Dani Donovan: https://www.adhddd.com/)

12.01.2022 With Covid-19 creating significantly more stress for us all please remember the importance of talking to others. Relate Treatment Group is currently taking new referrals. Please note that sessions are conducted online via Telehealth.
11.01.2022 Term 2 starts today in Victoria. It will be different. It will be challenging. It will be somewhat unchartered. For students, parents and caregivers, AND teachers it will be all of those things. Be patient toward teachers and schools - they are attempting to prepare and deliver education across unfamiliar formats, while also managing their personal concerns about Covid-19 and the impact of self isolation. ... Be patient toward yourself - most parents and carers are not teachers. We will not always have the strategies, knowledge or energy to provide effective educational support all the time. Do what you can today and try again tomorrow. A stressed parent is not conducive to an effective learning environment. Be patient with your children - they may not understand or appreciate why they cannot attend school or see friends. They may not want to 'learn' today. Do not forget that living is also learning. We can teach children so many important life skills while they are at home. Cooking, playing, drawing, exercise - these are all learning activities and opportunities to regulate uncomfortable emotions. If you have a bad day please reach out. To a partner, a sibling, a friend, a teacher or a professional. You are not alone in this. It is a challenging time. We will get through this together.
10.01.2022 At the end of the week let's acknowledge our efforts with kindness and compassion
