22.01.2022 In honour of National Tree Day, this is what Warners Bay Landcare got up to... Awesome work, troops! During these unprecedented times of the Covid19 Crisis, Warners Bay Landcare was not going to be put off by the cancellation of National Tree Day this year. Over 15 years the group has planted natives trees and bushes stabilising the creeks around Warners Bay using up to 60 community volunteers each .year. > > However, this year, because of social distancing, the group had to ...use their own members to get the massive number of plants in, all the while using all the methods to keep Covid19 safe. Using all their plant knowledge and spreading the activity over 4 days, they have managed to plant 2,000 trees and understorey plants indigenous to the area. > > Our Group has stepped up to the mammoth task of planting the 2,000 plants along North Creek Warners Bay, stated Ann Loughran of the Landcare Group. I couldnt be more proud of our members who were determined to keep our long Tree Day tradition going despite the crisis we are all living through. > > The Warners Bay community can be justly proud as they walk around the suburb during Corona Crisis times and admire the wonders of nature provided by Warners Bay Landcare who have now planted over 110,000 plants! 20.01.2022 Transformed Tree Day for Warners Bay During these unprecedented times of the COVID19 Crisis, Warners Bay Landcare was not going to be put off by the cancellatio...n of National Tree Day this year. For over 15 years the group has planted native trees and understorey plants stabilising the creeks around Warners Bay using up to 60 community volunteers each year. However, this year, to keep COVID safe, the group had to complete their planting activity with smaller numbers spread over four days in late July and early August. For the planting activity on 4 August 2020, Warners Bay Landcare members were assisted by Greater Bank staff. As well as providing staff to help with planting days, Greater Bank donated 1,500 plants for this project! This is part of the Greater Banks Celebrating 75 years with 75,000 trees initiative and Growing Greater Together planting projects. This planting will help rebuild a resilient vegetation community along the creek line of Warners Bay North Creek. The vegetation structure along the banks of a creek line are critical to the health of that waterway and others downstream. Our Group has stepped up to the mammoth task of planting the 2,000 plants along North Creek Warners Bay, assisted by staff of the Greater Bank, said Ann Loughran of the Warners Bay Landcare Group. I couldnt be more proud of our members who were determined to keep our long Tree Day tradition going despite the crisis we are all living through. The Warners Bay North Creek planting project follows up on over a year of site preparation, removing weeds that were inhibiting the growth of native plants and degrading the structure of the creek banks. As these plants establish, they will replace vegetation structure that has been missing from the site for many years, and will gradually become a self-sufficient ecosystem. This long-term plan for the site was initiated by Carl Fulton, a long-term member of Warners Bay Landcare group and previous vegetation officer at Lake Macquarie Landcare. 13.01.2022 The Bosco Verticale / Vertical Forest high-rise complex in Milan, Italy. The plant life, which is said to equal 3 hectares of forests (20,000 sq m), not only mo...derates the temperature in summer and winter but also converts as much as 30 tonnes of CO2 each year. On top of that, it filters out dust particles, protects the residents from noise pollution and creates a microhabitat for insects and birds. See more

12.01.2022 Congratulations to the Cardiff Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group for providing 400 plants and great advice to more than 50 people, to help attract pollinators to their gardens! The initiative is part of their Pollinator Project, where participants agree to ‘Spare a Square’ of their garden for pollinators, and to provide regular photo updates to help monitor and track the progress of a local habitat corridor.
