17.01.2022 Something to do in the Perth school holidays.
15.01.2022 What efficient waste avoidance, reuse and recycle policies and incentives are in place for each industry in order to keep waste incineration at its place in the waste hierarchy? Waste Authority recognises that energy recovery is more favourable than disposal but less favourable than avoidance, re-use, reprocessing and recycling so how is this governed to ensure we don't burn anything else other than absolute residual waste?

07.01.2022 http://youtu.be/p8Bv6oErZZg Australian Healthcare consumes 2,500 tonnes of recyclable PVC per year! 50 million IV bags go from hospitals to Australian landfill every year! Baxter Healthcare and Vinyl Council Australia have sponsored a program for PVC recovery in hospitals
06.01.2022 "When I attended USLS, I was a student Nurse and single Mum. I had recognised the extent of unnecessary health care related waste in my own country and I believ...ed everybody deserves equality in health care. The USLS in Cambodia gave me the gift of perspective and courage. Inspirational quotes spoken by inspirational people ignited a power within me. Now I am founding director of REmed. With a reduce, reuse, recycle philosophy, REmeds provides an alternative waste management options for non-hazardous healthcare supplies industry wide. Then source appropriate beneficiaries for the reclaimed (unused) medical supplies aligning with the World Health Organisations guidelines to in-kind donations. We have currently diverted 155 cubic metres of waste from Perth landfill and donated approx. $100 000 value of in date, uncompromised medical supplies to 7 different developing communities for various causes. My research and policy development opened a big can of worms but like one of the Speaker at the USLS, Pallas Hupe Cotter said if you take the right baby steps and follow your passion you will succeed" #LisaMcfarland #REmedEnvironmentalHealth #USLS2015 See more at: https://www.facebook.com/REmedhealth See more
05.01.2022 Wow, NZ has raised the bar proving that the sustainability of our health facilities has a lot of room for improvement (to put it mildly). Hospitals use 45-60% of public sector energy! Victoria's public hospitals generate equivalent to 200,000 residential homes! Estimated 30-60% of uncontaminated recyclable waste goes to landfill! 'To do good' & 'To do no harm' health professionals motto- It's time to realise unnecessary energy consumption and increased waste to landfill rates are impacting negatively on public and environmental health.

03.01.2022 The question for health professionals.. Are you contributing to human health issues whilst you are treating them. 'Do no harm' includes best environmental practices, what is your workplace doing to ensure you can achieve this? http://youtu.be/ZlJyZK3u1Yw
