20.01.2022 Hazelwood's smoke stacks have been a feature of the Latrobe Valley skyline since the 1960s. The power station was retired in March 2017, and today the smoke sta...cks were demolished. It symbolises the end of an era. But not the end of the Latrobe Valley’s important role in powering Victoria. As we move rapidly to a future powered by clean energy, we need to ensure local communities are at the centre of that future and benefit from new industries as coal is phased out. The clean up is also far from over. Coal burning power leaves a toxic legacy that takes decades to fully rectify. We’ll be making sure Hazelwood’s private owners are held accountable and fully rehabilitate the site for the community and environment.
