25.01.2022 *****Welcome To Throw Back Thursday***** Here at the Renmark Irrigation Trust we have a large amount of local memorabilia that we would like to start sharing with the community via our Facebook page. Prior to calling or booking water online irrigators used to call the main pump station and the Watermaster would allocate their water using the Flow Manager below.

24.01.2022 *** Minimum Allocations now 77% *** DEW Announcement: Minimum water allocations in 2020-21 for South Australian Class 3 (High Security) and Class 8 entitlement holders are now - as of 15 July 2020 - at 77 percent. This has risen from 54 percent previously announced at the start of July. A range of advice has, and continues to be, provided to water users. This information provides greater support for business planning, as we understand that this is especially important when water allocations are less than 100 percent. The next update for water users will be on Monday 3 August 2020. DEW Link: https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//water-allocations-and-a

19.01.2022 *** Minimum Opening Water Allocations Announced *** On 15 April 2020, the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) announced that the minimum projected Class 3 (High Security) and Class 8 opening allocation for the 2020-21 water year is 2 percent. Despite this very low minimum opening allocation, improvements across the water year are also expected. How quickly and by how much allocations improve depends on future rainfall, where and when it occurs and how much runoff then ...makes its way into Southern Basin storages. Most inflows to the River Murray System historically occur between July and October, so the main inflow season is yet to arrive. The full announcement and South Australias Water Allocation statement can be found on the DEW website here: https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//water-allocations-and-a

19.01.2022 Recently, the Horticultural Netting Infrastructure Grants were announced in an effort to help primary producers in the Riverland and Adelaide Hills/Greater Adelaide region fund the purchase and installation of new netting or the replacement of any damaged netting over land used to grow horticulture crops. Please see the following link for more information from PIRSA: https://www.pir.sa.gov.au/majo/horticulture-netting-grants

19.01.2022 *** Private Carryover Review Outcome *** Since August 2019, the Trust Board and its staff have worked to seek a more workable private carryover policy for SA irrigators, and to have that improved policy applied retrospectively. Private carryover was granted in April 2019 when the opening 2019-20 allocations were less than 50%. Under the policy adopted in February 2019, irrigators who conserved water in 2018-19 for later use lost the full economic value of that water when the... 2019-20 allocations reached 100%. The Trust considered that policy was unsustainable and has a negative economic impact on SA irrigators and their communities. While improvements to the policy were announced by the Minister on 15 April 2020, the SA Government did not approve that the water conserved by irrigators in 2018-19 could be carried forward. This is extremely disappointing, particularly given the 2% 2020-21 minimum allocation announcement. We ask the SA Government to clearly explain to our community who has benefitted from the conserved 2018-19 irrigators water. The Trust sincerely thanks the community, including many who reside outside the Renmark irrigation district, who actively demonstrated their support to Government to improve the policy and apply it retrospectively. The Trusts comprehensive submission to the Government review can be found at the bottom of the Trusts full statement at the following link: https://rit.org.au/news/private-carryover-review-outcome/

This workshop will offer simple and practical strategies to assist irrigators in planning and achieving better outcomes for their business. The workshop will spec...ifically focus on the South Australian water market and be delivered by independent water market experts Marsden Jacob Associates. The workshop will assist irrigators to explore water trade options to diversify water portfolios through practical interstate trading options, provide an overview of the benefits, costs and risks of interstate water products and address business risk through planning and securing your water requirements, regardless of the seasonal outlook. Date: Wednesday, 22 July 2020 Time: 12.30pm 2.30pm ACST Location: Online webinar RSVP: Register to attend the event at https://zoom.us//r/2615886656322/WN_yQZgM_seTfylToMLasVQTw or contact Tarsha McGregor, Project Officer by phone on 0428 105 396.

18.01.2022 *** Minimum Allocations now 81% *** DEW Announcement: Minimum water allocations in 2020-21 for South Australian Class 3 (High Security) and Class 8 entitlement holders are now - as of 3 August 2020 - at 81 per cent. This has risen from 77 per cent previously announced on 15 July. A range of advice has, and continues to be, provided to water users. This information provides greater support for business planning, as we understand that this is especially important when water allocations are less than 100 percent. The next update for water users will be on Monday 17 August 2020. DEW Link: https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//water-allocations-and-a

16.01.2022 *** The opening allocation for South Australian River Murray water users will be 40 percent *** On 15 June 2020, the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) has announced that the opening allocation for the 2020-21 water year will be 40 percent. The updated projections indicate that even if an extreme dry scenario plays out over the next six months, South Australian Class 3 (High Security) allocations are projected to reach 100 per cent by November 2020. In other words, al...locations are projected to reach 100 per cent if inflow conditions in 2020-21 correspond to or are better than the worst five per cent of years in the recent historical record. 15.01.2022 *** Some good rainfall in the catchment! *** After watching many areas of NSW and QLD cop a drenching over the past few weeks, key catchment areas for SAs irrigation water storage have experienced some significant rainfall over the past few days. Totals exceeding 200mm have been recorded in some key areas that provide inflows to major storages relevant to SA - the Dartmouth and Hume Dams. While significant runoff/inflows have not yet entered storages, lets hope the soil is definitely sufficiently "wetted up" and future rainfalls lead to some significant runoffs/inflows into storages! The image attached to this post shows the 24 hour (to 9am) totals for both 5 March and 6 March.

08.01.2022 *****FIELD POST***** Recently our field staff attended to a pipe break on Tarcoola street. It was reported to the Trust by a resident who noticed an excessive amount of water where it shouldn’t be. Our staff arrived to find water bubbling above the surface and the road cracked and lifted. Water hammer was the cause of the break resulting in the pipe splitting along the top of a section of pipe and blowing out a significant hole at either end of the cracked section. Replaceme...nt of the section was required. RIT field staff observed the integrity of the road had been undermined due to the large volume of high pressure water washing under the road prior to the water being isolated. Therefore the section of road also required replacement. Please be advised that this section of road still has restrictions in place while staff wait prepare the site to be re-sealed.

08.01.2022 **** PIPE BREAK UPDATE**** Water was restored to the area approx. 8pm last night. We advise there are still some traffic restrictions in the area today as the site is backfilled and restored.

07.01.2022 *** Riverland support still needed for Private Carryover Policy changes *** Government will soon make a decision on the proposed private carryover policy changes and your support is urgently needed. If you support the proposed changes to the private carryover policy and applying it retrospectively, please call local MP Tim Whetstones office on 8582 4230 this week and voice your support for the proposed policy change AND its retrospective application.... If the proposed policy changes are implemented and it is applied retrospectively, irrigators may gain access to their private carryover water put aside in 2018-19 that was lost due to the current policy when allocations reached 100% in 2019-20.

07.01.2022 *****Twenty-eighth Street Environmental Watering Site***** Work has commenced on a new outlet for Twenty-eighth Street which will enable Commonwealth Environmental Water to be delivered to the Twenty-eighth street environmental site through Dishes Creek and provide much needed flushing of the line for our irrigators, while providing an environmental outcome for the Murray Hardy Head breeding program managed by the Murray lands and Riverland Landscapes Board. Murray-Darling Basin Authority As the Twenty-eighth street environmental site is the catchment for the slightly saltier groundwater from the caissons, the fresh water being delivered will assist to reduce the salinity of the area slightly and hopefully create the perfect environment for the near extinct Murray Hardy Head fish which thrive in slightly salty water.
