01.05.2022 Why you should be careful about what you post about others by Trina McLellan | Reporting4Work | March 25, 2019 WHEN someone publishes derogatory or false statements about another living person without justification, defamation laws apply. Australia has quite strict defamation laws, ones that come with expensive penalties, but relatively few internet users have a strong understanding of how this area of the law works. 14.04.2022 It's been quite a while since I last posted here, but full-time work at a busy consultancy has kept me otherwise engaged. However, this weekend I presented to a wonderful crowd at the Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival at beautiful and unseasonably warm Coolum, just an hour or so's drive from Brisbane. I shared the stage with Leanne Dodd from Central Queensland University. [ 165 more words ] http://reporting4work.com.au//how-do-you-confront-trauma-/
05.04.2022 Now that #CarersWeek2016 is over, I thought I'd share a really useful web-based toolkit that can help carers, year-round: http://www.helpguide.org/emotional-intelligence-toolkit
02.04.2022 On Monday, October 17, 2016, at the Older People Speak Out Annual Media Awards a special video tribute was made to the founder and president of OPSO, Val French AM. Three days later, Val turned 89 and people half her age have trouble keeping up with her. Across her lifetime of teaching, advocacy and sheer determination, Val has made an incredible difference to many lives. You can see the tribute (narrated by me) online at https://youtu.be/oZxe7MhWEbo ... it really is worth the effort to see through to the end.

11.03.2022 It's been pretty quiet here for a while, as I've been busy teaching and developing content for a tertiary course (The Writer and The Law) amid other projects but the teaching at USC will come to an end in mid-January, so am hoping to ramp up some Reporting4Work activities in the New Year!
03.03.2022 racism: (1) the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races (2) prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. There is something valuable that Aboriginal and other community based cultures can teach the rest of us. [ 956 more words. ] http://reporting4work.com.au//lets-talk-about-four-r-words/
13.02.2022 Many older Australians say they are deeply unhappy about issues and changes that impact their lives or the lives of their loved ones but about which they have had little or no say. They will readily share their displeasure with friends and family but that is usually where it ends. Yet there are a variety of traditional and new ways in which they can make their voices heard. 01.02.2022 Congratulations to JEAA president Professor Matthew Ricketson and his University of Canberra journalism students for the impressive collaboration with Guardian Australia's Katharine Murphy, which has resulted in an in-depth report on privacy fears exposed as the nation's surveillance laws are dragged into the digital era ... certainly worth a read @ http://www.theguardian.com//privacy-fears-australian-surve
30.01.2022 Great tribute by the ABC (especially our Dart colleague Phil Williams) to the many faceless and often nameless 'fixers' those often very brave locals who shepherd around foreign correspondents in often dangerous territory ... http://www.abc.net.au/corresponde/content/2014/s4054422.htm
