22.01.2022 Before Uncle Fossey talks us through his fantastic welcome to country in Toowoomba.

22.01.2022 Isolated by distance. Quilpie Shire is located in South-West Queensland, approximately 1,000 km west of Brisbane and has a population of 790, of which 654 reside in the town of Quilpie. Inspired by Quilpie’s existing tourism and lifestyle image as an oasis in the arid outback landscape, the theme of water and its smart use in the Outback was adopted... as the focus for new ideas attract local business and employment. Using a best practice approach to sustainable development and circular economy principles, Quilpie Wellspring provides a vision for new micro enterprises clustered on a 3.9 ha site in the heart of Quilpie. The mixed-use precinct is planned as a five-stage project with stage one being three new enterprises providing solar distilled water from the Great Artesian Basin, local craft beer and fresh aquaponics produce of local fish and vegetables with supporting arid food forest, ecological lagoon and public open space. 17.01.2022 Whilst COVID and now China's policies have impacted many agri-food supply chains of late Rural Economies researchers at CQUniversity Peggy Schrobback and Professor John Rolfe have looked at aquaculture opportunities for Queensland and Northern Australia, specifically the black-lip oyster (BLO). The black-lip oyster has been identified as a tropical edible oyster species that could be cultivated on a commercial basis in Northern Australia (Queensland, Northern Territory, and ...Western Australia). This industry could generate employment, production diversification and economic growth for communities living in northern rural coastal regions of Australia. However, to develop this industry a better understanding about the potential supply chain for this shellfish product is required. Since Australia produces several other oyster species on a commercial basis, information from the oyster supply chains of these industries can be useful in guiding the development of a supply network BLOs. https://www.ruraleconomies.org.au//describing-analysing-a/ See more
