But what’s next? The state and federal governments are starting to change the language and push for a return to the office to boost the economy. Want to make your work from home arrangements permanent? You can start by watching this Masterclass still available and relevant online

20.01.2022 Wondering what’s on our bookshelf? We asked our Principal Lawyer, Carly Stebbing, and 'Your Own Kind of Girl' by Clare Bowditch was on the list, along with a combination of historical fiction, inspirational books and some relaxing chick lit

15.01.2022 Unfortunately, many older Australians are being subjected to age based discrimination in the hiring process and the workplace itself. Judging by this recent WHO report, that's not changing any time soon. If you've experienced ageism at work, you're not alone. Here are some tips to take action. Want more info? Check out our blog: https://resolution123.com.au/bl/age-discrimination-at-work/

15.01.2022 To date, employers have been managing the risk of COVID-19 through a combination of WFH, social distancing and cleaning protocols. Vaccines have not been required to register as a COVID-safe business. If health and safety risks can be managed without the vaccine, I do not think mandating it is lawful and reasonable especially where, as is the case with all vaccines, there will be associated health risks and some employees may be ineligible, said Ms Stebbing, a former Lawyers Weekly award winner and six-time finalist. https://www.lawyersweekly.com.au//30138-can-law-firms-mand

10.01.2022 Are you in a profession or sector of your industry you never thought you’d be in? Senior Associate at Resolution123, Genevieve, never thought she wanted to be an employment lawyer, until she was put into it and everything just clicked!

10.01.2022 Did you know that today is the international day of people with disability? This year has been one of great learning for me on disability rights and embracing, in particular neurodiversity in the workplace. It kicked off by agreeing to an interview with Neurodiversity Media on ADHD and your rights at work. We published the blog here: https://resolution123.com.au//adhd-your-disability-rights/ and Neurodiversity Media published a visual guide here: https://www.neurodiversit...ymedia.com/adhd-rights-at-work (LBH it's heaps better than ours). We decided to work with Neurodiversity on an ongoing basis, their neurodiverse workforce are amongst the most talented young women we know. As an employer we needed to consider how to ensure access to a team member who had a physical injury during the year (before the pandemic hit and we went fully remote). And we acted for a neurodiverse client in a disability discrimination claim that was successfully resolved without litigation. In the course of that matter we uncovered this really useful paper on ADHD at work: https://law.unimelb.edu.au//pdf_fi/0009/1703574/34_2_1.pdf. We hope there is something useful for you or someone you know in here and that you can see the ability in disability.

08.01.2022 Wow, has there ever been a more timely #IWD2021? The headlines dominating the news evidence why IWD is still relevant and important. We don't have gender equality in this country. Women in STEM are paid 24.4% less than their male peers. Women in Finance, Insurance and Banking are paid 23.6% less than their male peers and 81% of employees in the Information, Media and Telecommunications Industries have been sexually harassed at work in the last 5 years. The corporate theme fo...r this year's IWD is #choosetochallenge and the UN Women theme is #womenlead. So how do we get there? Well in an enlightening interview, Melinda Gates of the Gates Foundation says the number 1 thing we need to do is eliminate sexual harassment at work. Melinda says that 80% of women that are sexually harassed at work leave their workplace and some, eventually their industry. She says we need to concentrate on key industries. The same ones that are cited above. So what is your workplace doing to improve gender equality? You can be true to this year's themes by asking some basic questions: Do we have a policy on sexual harassment at work? Do we have training for all employees on sexual harassment at work? Do we have a clear response policy so that everyone knows what happens if there is a complaint about sexual harassment? If the answer to any of these questions is no, there is your first action item to meaningful change. Statistics are sourced from WGEA and AHRC

08.01.2022 With the recent death of 2 great feminists, we were wondering who will step forward now and fight for the rights of the sex most affected by this pandemic? Women form a higher percentage of the industries hardest hit, they are more likely to be award reliant and there is a real risk that the pandemic will cause an increase in the gender pay gap. It takes women and men in positions of privilege to speak out about sex discrimination, sexual harassment and pay inequality. Ruth Bader Ginsburg did it, Susan Ryan did it, with their passing who will take up the grail? We hope it's you

07.01.2022 And these laws still apply, regardless of whether we're living through a pandemic or not!

07.01.2022 Much conversation this morning on Insiders ABC about what support will be available for workers in Victoria during the lock down, especially casual workers. The federal trades minister pointed to the federal disaster and emergency payment although it doesn’t appear to extend to everyone affected. If you haven’t yet you can check it out here: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//pandemic-leave-disas... Thinking of you Victoria

05.01.2022 A year ago we shared this image on how to prepare for how COVID19 will affect your job. With jobkeeper ending and Australian jobs once again at risk, we thought it was important to share it again. If you are being made redundant and you are not a casual employee, you are entitled to notice of redundancy, redundancy pay, unpaid annual leave and in some cases long service leave. If you accepted a pay cut during the pandemic or you were receiving jobkeeper you might need advice on how to calculate those entitlements. Get in touch if you need any help. You can PM/DM us or make an inquiry on our website. You can also use the search function on our website to get more information on redundancy rights. #knowyourworkrights #redundancy #employmentlaw

02.01.2022 I have a new Saturday and Sunday morning routine. I get the The Sydney Morning Herald delivered and enjoy it over a tea or coffee. My 2 fav articles so far this morning the future of the workplace looks a lot like your home office - more on that later and the Modern Guru’s response to is it okay to smoke a cigarette during a zoom meeting? All things you wouldn’t do in a regular meeting, you shouldn’t do in a zoom meeting: that includes smoking, yawning, texting, nappi...ng, farting, benching, cursing, boozing, perving, chewing gum, picking noses and nudity, unless it’s discreetly hidden below your desk. FYI, don’t be nude, even below your desk, what if you have to quickly hop up to meet the online shopping delivery driver? Happy Saturday, from Carly Stebbing
