23.01.2022 Vale Helen Reddy

22.01.2022 We are currently having some technical difficulties but in the meantime please don’t hesitate to message us through Facebook should you wish to get in contact. We should be back up and running ASAP!

20.01.2022 A fortnight ago our lovely Clarice Hamling dropped off the chatterboxes that were made at February’s high tea for the students at the SPCC DALE Young Parents. For those who don’t know, the Dale School is a special assistance School for young mums and dads that provides flexible learning environments and onsite early learning care for their babies whilst they study. Each chatterbox had encouraging messages to hopefully inspire the young parents and to make them feel more loved and supported. Several of the girls who read the messages said it really meant something to them personally, with one saying it was so close to how she saw herself trying to move forward. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed your encouraging words to the chatterboxes, your beautiful messages have truly touched and inspired these incredible young parents!

20.01.2022 Our fabulous Clarice Hamling has been nominated as a Westfields Local Hero! As supporters of Respectus and the great work Clarice does for our community please follow the link to vote for her. We appreciate your continuing support.

19.01.2022 You are not alone! Whether you are a young Mum, self isolating or bunkering down during this period. Please reach out to your friends and family. Stay safe and healthy dear friends.

14.01.2022 Hi everyone Don’t forget to please vote for us #WestfieldKotaraLocalHeroes A bit of background on me -... Volunteering with #respectuslimited has enabled me to have the opportunities to help others with situations similar to ones that I experienced while growing up. Helping to create a refuge with Respectus (Trisha’s House), has allowed so many women and children to have access to a safe haven. Something that was not available back when my mother, myself and my siblings needed it. I’m proud of Trisha’s House and I’m proud to be involved in Respectus’s next project. Part of this project is to source accommodation for young mothers and their children. A place for them to feel safe in, while finishing their education. Some young mothers have told us that by not having a safe place for themselves and their little ones, it creates a barrier in their way forward and therefore hinders the finishing of their schooling. The other part of our project would ideally see an older woman share this accommodation. An older woman who is in need of not only a safe place, but a place where they can feel needed again. If Respectus wins one of the #WestfieldKotara grants the money would allow us to ensure our pilot project will tick all the boxes for the important stakeholders in the project - the young mothers and older women. My wonderful mother would have loved to have had a more sympathetic older lady in her life to help her and her children. But back then it was the sad case of ‘You made your bed, now lie in it’ And sadly - one often hears that phrase still now. For a long time our family thought we were the only ones who had it tough - but hearing so many stories from other families over these past years, we now know that sadly there were, and still are, so many more out there So please, never be afraid to start a ‘conversation’ if you see someone who might be in need of help. More than likely that person who needs it could be feeling too wary, or feeling too afraid, or feeling too unworthy, to actually come to ‘you’ for help If you vote for us- it will be a vote that will help not one, but two generations, to feel loved and supported again Link to voting: https://www.westfield.com.au//6lQAY89a2/local-heroes-2020 Thank you for listening (well, reading ) Clarice Hamling xx

10.01.2022 On behalf of Respectus Limited I would like to express our gratitude to Westfield Kotara. For us to have been initially chosen as one of the 6 finalists (out of 42 nominations), in the Westfield Kotara Local Heroes 2020 was a testament to our volunteers dedication. Though we were not one of the final 3, Respectus was extremely thankful for the opportunities that were presented to us as a finalist, as it allowed us to showcase what our Not for Profit organisation has achieved ...within our community. Congratulations to our fellow finalists, and of course well done to the final 3 It was indeed a pleasure to talk to you all and gain an insight on your wonderful organisations. A thank you to Deb from SPCC DALE Young Parents who joined me in accepting our Westfield Local Heroes certificate. Respectus is looking forward to continuing our support with you, and your young parents. #spccdaleyoungparents #respectuslimited #westfieldkotara Clarice Hamling Board Member Respectus Limited

07.01.2022 We love these beautiful reminders for young Mums and us all to take the time to celebrate life, laugh, dream and share your love with others. Stay safe and healthy dear friends.

06.01.2022 As a result of receiving wonderful donations from a Community Partner, Respectus recently had the privilege of delivering the large majority of these items to a local primary school. The Principal was thankful we had chosen their school, and said the donations will definitely bring some much needed cheer to some of their families this Xmas. Because of our Community Partner’s generosity we were also able to deliver donations to others we love to support - the wonderful young ...parents, and their children at SPCC DALE Young Parents. Respectus is sincerely grateful to have Community Partners and individuals who not only share our community spirit to help others, but who also believe in our mission of helping women and children who are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, homelessness. Thank you to you all

04.01.2022 Hard to believe it’s been 4 years since the start of our first project: renovating a tired old place to be a safe place for women and their children. Trisha House is now operating as a beautiful temporary, safe house. Thanks to the many, many volunteers and business that supported this initiative!

04.01.2022 Questions from Clarice, one of our board members: 1. Did you have a mentor or someone you looked up to when you were a teenager ? 2. Did you have someone who supported you during any tough times through your teenage years ? 3. Was there someone who encouraged you to continue following your dreams ? 4. Was there someone who made you feel safe ?... For many young mothers trying to finish their education, while looking after themselves and their little one, their answers could well be No. I volunteer at #respectuslimited . Our first project resulted in us proudly opening a refuge for women and their children experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. The aim of our next project is to find safe accommodation for young mothers and their children- this would help them to overcome at least one of the obstacles they face while striving to finish their education. In collaboration with the University of Newcastle (and hopefully with a grant from @WestfieldKotaraLocalHeroes ), #respectuslimited will then be able to begin to gather, and then analyse, the valuable input we will receive from all relevant stakeholders, including our wonderful hardworking and dedicated young parents. But, that’s not all of our project ...... Our idea is not only to find safe accommodation for the parents, but, we would also like to pair each of them up with an older woman who would share the accommodation with them. An older woman who is also facing obstacles in her life, and who would not only benefit from somewhere safe to live, but she would also benefit from feeling needed once again. #respectuslimited believes that both ladies could support, encourage and learn from one another. By voting for me and #respectuslimited you would be helping us get that much closer to making this a reality, as there is no style of accommodation or support model like this currently in the Hunter Region. Doesn’t everyone deserve to receive respect, to have access to opportunities to better their life, and, to feel that ‘yes, they do matter’ Thank you for reading this (And if you support this - could you please vote for us at #westfieldkotara and share it to others ) #respectuslimited. #spccdaleyoungparents #feelingworthy #feelingsupported #feelingrespected
