12.01.2022 Asthma Australia is welcoming the listing of an anti-inflammatory reliever medicine as an option for people with mild #asthma, listed as a subsidised medicine o...n the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme today. The anti-inflammatory reliever, which will be available as either Symbicort Turbuhaler 200/6, Symbicort Rapihaler 100/3 or DuoResp Spiromax (containing the active ingredients budesonide/formoterol), must be prescribed by a doctor for use by Australian adults and adolescents (over 12 years) with mild asthma to treat symptoms as needed. CEO of Asthma Australia Michele Goldman welcomed the announcement saying, It gives people with mild asthma a new option to treat their symptoms when they occur. The changes address the use of a low dose inhaled combination corticosteroi...d preventer and formoterol reliever on an as needed basis for patients with mild asthma. Version 2.1 of the Handbook is scheduled for release in coming weeks and will focus on the issue of preventer underuse and the corresponding over-reliance on reliever medications. 07.01.2022 ACT Health is warning Canberrans of the potential for a "thunderstorm asthma event" this weekend This very rare event can be triggered when high pollen levels... coincide with thunderstorms that generate strong winds. People who suffer from hayfever or asthma should monitor their symptoms carefully. If their health worsens, they should stay indoors, close doors and windows, and use air-conditioners only on recirculate mode.
