25.01.2022 Message from Paul Walshe Chair Respite Care for Queanbeyan On behalf of the board of Respite Care for QBN I would like to thank the Queanbeyan and surrounding community for your fantastic support through out 2021. I know the year has been challenging on many fronts but we have made some significant progress on building a 6 bedroom respite care facility in Queanbeyan for people aged between 18 and 60 who have a terminal or chronic illness.... The positives so far are we have secured a 30 year lease through the Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council for a block of land in Ross Road and are in the final stages of finalising agreements with both Federal and NSW State Governments for a total of $1.5m to build the facility. We have commenced the DA process and hope to start construction in August 2021 with completion by late May 2022. We have a number of fundraising activities planned for 2021 including a golf day, fun run, Men’s calendar and High teas in Queanbeyan Bungendore and Braidwood and much more, so stay tuned for further information. Still the biggest challenge we have in 2021 is to secure ongoing funding from both our Federal and NSW State Governments to run the facility. To this stage it has been very difficult to get any traction with either Government, which has been very frustrating. I have been working with our local members John Barilaro and Kristy McBain, who have both been strong advocates for Respite Care for QBN, to assist us in convincing our politicians the importance of this funding and the difference it can make in our community. We need your support to send a strong message to both Governments to get off their backsides and work with us to ensure we have a sustainable funding model to run the respite facility. Best wishes to you and your family for a safe and happy Christmas and 2021. Paul

We have the purpose to go forward !! But not the final hurdle. We need to get Yvonne's dream built, is the on-going funding to fund the centre. Building this respite centre in Queanbeyan... The first ever for Australia !! and will save the Federal and State Government's Millions of $$ in hospital claims. All we are asking is to look at the "On-Going Funding " to support the Respite centre on a yearly basis. By clicking on the below link you will be showing your support to the state Government that you support and want the State Government to supply the on going yearly funding to keep our dream going.
