As well as assisting my oblique muscles, I’m drawn to the grounding and calming affect it gives me when I truely focus . Weve shared some crazy memories, belly laughs and sometimes tears . Taking you down memory lane to when we were entertained back in the nineties with the ladies and gentlemen performance? Ooooohhhh ahhhhhh lots of scarey screams that night Girls trip to Canberra in the storm, mi sciatu . Lucky we survived that trip and didnt end up off the road . House mates in Brunswick where we made frozen chocolate bananas for our guests . What did that banana represent again?? UFO sightings . The list goes on.... but my all time favourite is me trying to find your home after driving up and down Tullamarine freeway for hours, running out of petrol, lost in a local shopping centre carpark , and after driving through the Maccas drive through to find my way back on Morland Road then heading straight back onto that freeway again . I laugh as I write about this... The thought of it still traumatises me though . You bring me the best belly laughs and I look forward to catch ups soon!! Why not grab your fitball and try just rolling out and attempt to balance first . ( like a plank )... The more you practice, the stronger you become . 25.01.2022 So today I woke up feeling totally blahhhhh . I’m not sick .... just feeling like I’ve eaten way too much sugar over Christmas and past week. Less exercise and more Netflix . Ha we all do it ...lots of panatone, then more panatone , and just a few shortbread biscuits .. ... I hate feeling tired from eating too much sugar... but it’s my warning sign and reminder to know when enough is had. Who doesn’t love panatone and chocolates ? So...... no use crying over this... it’s easy to get back on track, few days of a sugar detox and lots of greens will get me back to my healthy feeling self . Today I craved being outdoors- try it!! 24.01.2022 Need to Just be? Childs pose - An amazing way to slow down the mind, body and breath. Sit back onto your heals with your arms on the ground in front of you. Alternatively you could place both hands under your forehead.... Take deep breaths into your back body, your ribs, shoulder blades and as you inhale, feel the skin & muscles lift with your breath, as you exhale, feel your body surrender back down towards the earth . Aim for a slow 5 second inhale..... and a 5 second exhale .... Repeat x 6-10. Enjoy . You have now moved into your state of presence and ready for your day. 23.01.2022 Womens Health Week and Healthy Ageing We all want to feel our best everyday. The reality is that sometimes we feel great & sometimes we dont . Accept thats its ok to have off days . ... There are many ways to make yourself feel good and also ensure you age gracefully. A happy mind creates a happy and healthy body . Here are a few easy ways . Socialise- Staying active and socialising with your friends and family are all great for mental health. Due to the current restrictions its a little hard to socialise so why not organise a zoom catch up? Its always great to share a laugh with a loved one or a friend. Get creative and have a zoom dinner !! Ive done this myself several times & Im always left with a feeling of going out. Here are some other ways : Daily walking - just 30 mins a day is enough to stimulate blood flow and make you feel fit and create a happy mood. Exercise 2 - 4 times per week in any form you enjoy! Pilates , Yoga, Weights, aerobics Eating well - include mostly green veggies & some fruit daily. Reduce Alcohol Try limiting alcohol to weekends only. Get a good night sleep early to bed without the computer or tv nearby Dance like nobody is watching . Get your favourite songs playing and your body will guide your moves . RELAX!! Remember to self care. Its not selfish to want to be alone sometimes or have a nothing day. Watch a favourite show without the guilt . Balance- its ok to eat chocolate without guilt. Food for the soul is encouraged. Learn to be ok eating some junk food occasionally. Self Care - Its easier than you think, put yourself first for a change . 18.01.2022 Menopause and Healthy Womens Week Menopause and peri menopause can be a hormonal roller coaster. Symptoms of menopause generally include hot flushes , aches and pains, bloating , mood swings, weight gain, night sweats and many more. ... Emotional and physical changes can also occur. Not all women experience the same symptoms and research shows that 20% of women have no symptoms at all( lucky them ) !! Its always best to see your doctor for the correct diagnosis but in the meantime,if you are at that stage in your life, remember eating well, movement and exercise can help curb some of the emotional days. Eating Balanced meals together with some gentle movement and walking can help lift your spirit and mood. Maintaining a healthy recommended BMI can also reduce symptoms or reduce severe night sweats , hot flushes , aches and pains. One thing to remember which is extremely important is that YOURE NOT ALONE . See your doctor if youre experiencing extreme symptoms and ask for help. There are also Menopause support groups for women on Facebook which are great if you need to chat. Having someone experiencing the same issues will acknowledge that youre not going mad . SBS /Insight program aired a documentary on Menopause last night so if youre in that stage of your life, you can view the episode. Lots of amazing women sharing their story along with how they manage their symptoms . Have a wonderful day, remember take a walk today if youre feeling a little low. Stabilise your abdominals gently as you try to extend your arm and leg away from your torso at the same time .... Inhale to extend limbs, exhale to return. Try 6-8 repetitions each side. 07.01.2022 Can you find rhythm and smoothness in your hips? Our hips and lower back have a big task, one is to support our weight and keep us moving . I love to loosen my back and create flow around my hips with imprints and pelvic clocks .... Video speed increased so you can actually see the pelvis moving . If you’d love to try this exercise, lay on your back with legs bent. Find neutral pelvis then gently rock the pelvis back as you exhale ( lower back flattens), then inhale rock pelvis forward . Don’t rush the move, just move with your breath. Slow and steady will do the trick . Then try pelvic clocks . Your aim is to circle the hips / pelvis in a circle , imagine a clock and aim to get the circle all the way around .... then reverse your circle.. Find sticky bits? Tightness ?, start small and as you loosen up, you can move a little larger. You’ll have loose hips in no time !! . Please speak to your doctor or physio if you experience back pain, this may not be appropriate for you depending on any injuries. Best to get medical advice. Have fun!! 06.01.2022 The Pelvic floor and Womens Health Week This is a repost but a great reminder during womens health week . The Pelvic floor is a group of muscles and ligaments that supports the bladder, uterus and bowel. It runs between the pubic bone in the front, and to the tail bone at the back. (Imagine a hammock) .... Look after your pelvic floor with some gentle exercises. Heres a simple pelvic floor exercise you can do at home using a Pilates magic circle. You could also use a chi ball or a pillow. Place ring or chi ball between knees, inhale to prepare, then gently feel yourself engage/ lift pelvic floor as you exhale through the mouth (imagine youre trying to hold off going to the loo ), then gently squeeze your thighs together . Hold the lift & squeeze for about five seconds, then relax . Repeat about 10 times. See if you can do this without moving your spine , so you keep your lower back in neutral. Try focusing on your lower belly & pelvic floor muscles to initiate the move. I place my hand on my belly and I feel myself engage prior to moving the knees in together. My belly moves away from my hand as I engage the muscles . Weaknesses do occur so please consult your doctor or physio if you experience extreme problems. 05.01.2022 Good morning Grounding stretch with Pilates I feel We ALL NEED grounding so.... Find yourself your quiet space ... Grab a foam roller or largish pillow & place behind your shoulder blades Support your head at the base of your skull , add a little gentle traction Inhale & Lengthen spine evenly over the roller /pillow to where you feel most comfortable Create more length in your front body by imagining the skin attached to your hip bones , is sliding all the way to the tips of your elbows and beyond Enjoy the open freedom by staying there for a breath or two Maintain your new found length as you exhale and return to first position Repeat 6-8 times Always seek medical approval if you are recovering from an injury. 02.01.2022 Pilates together with Meditation brings health and healing . In my own health journey over the last 5 years, I have included various styles of meditation to bring calmness and presence into my life. I meditate daily, frequently twice daily,and I can honestly say, it has brought in many new opportunities. Meditation together with Pilates, has helped me to deal with stresses that pop up, health conditions that pop up, ideas that I wish to manifest and situations... I face. It keeps me grounded and yes I do still become stressed , but Im more aware how to turn it around into a positive lesson. A little meditation teaches you to stay in the present moment & not become worried or anxious . Together with Pilates, which is all about mind & body connection, It is a perfect fit. It relaxes your autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions, such as the heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal. This system is the primary mechanism in control of the fight-or-flight response. We will always need to move and exercise just as much as we need to rest and rejuvenate the body. I know Im not exempt from any future injury or illness , but Im doing my best to keep my stress levels low and healthy. Especially during this time in our lives and lockdown. Learning to let go of what We cannot control . If you feel pain, worry, anxiety, fear stress, perhaps try some gentle Meditationtogether with your Pilates? Heres a memory of one of our crazy catchups last year, swinging on our old backyard clothes line as we did as kids. Its still surviving after 40 years +. ...
