20.01.2022 TONY GOLLAN: CHAMPION. Queensland race horse trainer Tony Gollan is certainly no stranger to the term champion. He has trained Group 1 winners across Australia... and once again leads the Queensland trainers premiership. Yesterday, when the unthinkable happened and a truck headed to Caloundra races carrying four of Gollan’s best racehorses suddenly veered off the road doing 100km and crashed down a steep 8 metre bank into a forest below, Gollan became a champion boss, champion horseman and all-round champion human being. He was one of the first on the scene and took over, reassuring his young strappers who were miraculously somehow left unharmed, and then climbed into the managed wreck of the truck where his horses were franticly trapped on their sides, comforted them, sedated them and sat with them for the long hours it took while the crash specialists slowly and carefully cut open the roof of the truck. His wife Jane herself an expert horsewoman - stayed beside the truck and manned the phones reassuring friends and family while the hours ticked by. Eventually, the horses were all walked off the truck slashed, sore and sorry, but, like that wonderful line form the Man from Snowy River, unbroken and unbowed "with their courage fiery hot".. Crash experts, vets, race stewards, media and ordinary passers-by all gave amazing praise for the calm efficiency of the entire rescue operation. An accident travelling horses is everyone’s worst nightmare and we send our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Tony and Jane and the way their entire team handled the utterly unthinkable - and came out of it alive and well. We are all inspired when we see real leadership suddenly rise up amongst us especially in tough times like the ones we are all experiencing n Australia right now Thank you, Tony, for reminding us that when the going gets tough, the tough really do get going. I think we all needed to be reminded of that.

19.01.2022 Way to go Racing Vic!!!

18.01.2022 We would like to introduce the first of our boys that is commencing his new career after retiring from racing. Known around the stables as Boomer this gorgeous guy raced as Aquatic under the watchful eye of Chris Waller. Boomer is a 4 yo, 16.2hh gelding by Beneteau our of a mare called Halimeda. The dam sire is Fusaichi Pegasus. Anyone who’s worked in racing, or had a lot to do with horses with this breeding, would suggest that he may be a hot horse. This is something t...o note when looking at an Off The Track TB. There are many proven bloodlines that translate into the performance horse world, either by ability, type, movement or temperament. We are lucky that he hasn’t lived up to the reputation of his breeding. He’s very laid back and has a great attitude to trying new things. He had 3 wins from 24 starts as won nearly $180,000 in prize money. Why have we chosen him to be part of our team?? He’s a stunning type. Very correct and built uphill. We find that a lot of thoroughbreds tend to be downhill - they’re built for speed. Boomer has a really fabulous and inquisitive nature and as a bonus he is very easy on the eye. We are very excited about this horse. Boomers owners have reached out to us and asked that we keep them informed on his progress. This is evidence once again that the Racing industry truly has a genuine love for these stunning and versatile athletes and that they are an important part of their lives. We were lucky to have been offered Boomer through Muskoka Farm - they are very passionate about rehoming retired racehorses. Big shout out to them for finding us this stunning boy Amanda Smith Follow Boomer’s progress through our pages Emadilo Equestrian Retraining Rachorses

18.01.2022 Bayard Moondance jumped a very classy double clear in the 5yo class today at Nunney. Love having another full thoroughbred coming up the ranks.

16.01.2022 We will be hosting an OTT and young horse training clinic in the new year. This is a great opportunity for those that have young or OTT horses to learn some skills in starting them into their new careers. Pm for any further info

14.01.2022 Hey guys; feel free to share your Thoroughbred's story on this page; Racing and retired; let's raise the public awareness. I have 5 amazing and talented thoroughbreds that are very successful in their new careers. There are tens of thousands more, just like mine. We also want to hear from trainers, riders, strappers and owners about your horse's that are still in work! Thank you all so much for the support and care you show for your horse's. The hours of care and the thousand...s of dollars you spend each year to keep them healthy and happy. For giving them the training they need to succeed at Racing, and then to transform them in their retirement. Without the care and dedication you give, they would never get to where they are. For all that you do, Thank You. Lyndal Yelavich @lyndal_emadilo #lifeafterracing #lovethroughbreds

09.01.2022 LVE this young thoroughbred! Emadilo Boomtime (raced as Aquatic) had his first jump today and took to it like a duck to water. Once again proving the versatili...ty and trainability of the OTT TB. #emadiloequestrian #retrainingracehorses #offthetrack #eventer #thoroughbred

08.01.2022 JUNIOR POSITION VACANT We have a fantastic opportunity available for a junior to join our team. This is a full time, live in position. This position would suit ...someone looking to build a career in the horse industry as the scope to learn from several facets of the Racing, quarantine and Equestrian fields. We do everything from breakers to Eventing to export quarantine and thoroughbred spelling so we require someone confident with young horses. We are happy to train the successful applicant but a desire to learn is important as is a good work ethic and attention to detail. Monday to Friday 7am to 4:30 and every second weekend. We are located in Wisemans Ferry which is rather isolated as far as public transport so own transport is required. Email resumes to [email protected]

08.01.2022 If you have a spare 5 minutes please read! After another fabulous Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington I would love to share some information with you all about... animal welfare in horse racing. It’s very rare that I actually pipe up about anything on Facebook but having grown up in and around the racing industry there is nothing I am more passionate about. Sadly there seems to be a lot of false information spread in the media about how we treat our horses, which is very hurtful and upsetting. I won’t argue or attempt to change your mind about us but I think you’d be interested to learn how outrageous the information being spread truly is. First and foremost, we take the welfare of our horses seriously. Racing Victoria employs 60 vets across the state to care for horses at every single race, every single day. Racing Victoria spends $2 million each year on equine welfare and veterinary services, resources and initiatives, plus an additional $1.7 million on medication control. This is exclusive of what owners and trainers would spend taking care of their horses. As you can imagine, it is typically these people who have personally cared for the horses that are most distraught about any death, accidental or not, whether this occurs on or off the racecourse. Secondly, the horse safety rate in the past decade has averaged 99.95% with fatal accidents occurring in just 0.049% of starts. Last year approximately 8,800 horses raced on Victorian tracks, starting a total of 43,000 times (each horse had approximately 5 starts). There were 25 fatalities. Our safety standards are absolutely world class meaning our fatality rate is one of the lowest in the world. In contrast, the USA has recorded a 0.15-0.25% fatality rate on the flat track. We have a compulsory retirement rule meaning owners must notify Racing Victoria when a horse is being retired. Data shows that over 90% of our horses have been retired to equestrian, pleasure and breeding industries. In fact, this year the Royal Melbourne Show saw 100 retired racehorses compete in equestrian events where the prestigious Garryowen was won by a thoroughbred for the fourth consecutive year. However, the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses claims that, the racing industry does not have a retirement plan. This results in thousands of racehorses being sent to the knackeries and slaughterhouses where they’re killed for dog meat and human consumption, and that, nearly all the horses that leave the stud will be killed for meat. They also suggest that 18,000 thoroughbreds exit the racing industry each year and that the throwaway culture in the racing industry encourages people to send their horses to slaughter, as it is often an issue of convenience not compassion. This 18,000 figure is supposedly obtained from a 2004 study completed by Hayek. However, if you actually read the report it estimates that 650 thoroughbred racing horses were sent to the knackery Australia-wide during the year of study (p.88). Meanwhile, Animals Australia says that, you can count on one or two hands the Melbourne Cup winners who now graze on beautiful paddocks in their retirement. Now, I actually had to question whether this was a joke or not but you can find five of them here http://www.livinglegends.org.au/ and you can even go say hello and get your photo taken with them. There have been a total of four equine fatalities in the past 21 years immediately after the running of the Melbourne Cup. Admire Rakti suffered heart failure following the race, which is incredibly rare and only occurs in 0.007% of starters in Victoria. Last season only 2 horses suffered sudden death on raceday and sadly there is currently no way this can be predicted and therefore prevented. Racing Victoria acknowledges that more research is needed in this area. Given the messages spread by both the CPR and Animals Australia garner a lot of public attention I thought it would be best to contact them to see what they do to better the lives of our beautiful horses. The CPR does not re-home retired racehorses, because [they] are a lobby group. But if you’d like to help you can print off a poster or donate to the organisation. Animals Australia does not rehome ex-racehorses either and redirected me to the CPR to find out more about the issue. So, take a look at a short-listed top 10 ex-racehorse rehoming organisations in Victoria: https://rv.racing.com/the-horse/off-the-track http://www.livinglegends.org.au/ http://www.racehorsesanctuary.org/ http://www.australianhorserescue.com/news/ http://thoroughbredridingclub.org/ http://www.equus.net.au/index.html http://trew.org.au/ http://questequinewelfare.org/ http://www.rdav.asn.au/ https://www.horserescue.com.au/main/ I would urge you to support these organisation rather than those who don’t actively participate in the re-homing of racehorses. Anyone that wants the best for our horses has good intentions, but I would encourage you to dig a little deeper before jumping to conclusions. *All figures that don’t belong to the CPR or Animals Australia have been obtained from a little bird at Racing Victoria. PS. The horse in the below photo is called Denver Dan. Although he was destined to be a successful racehorse he suffered a career ending injury after only starting in one race. As a matter of compassion, Denver Dan is now living out a happy retirement in a paddock that is undoubtedly bigger than the block of land you live on.

08.01.2022 There are so many unique friendships in the equine world, but nothing compares to, Emirates Melbourne Cup winner, Efficient and his best pal, Zipping. Happy #FriendshipDay Image by Living Legends

07.01.2022 Follow the journey as Aquatic makes the career change from racehorse to eventer. The first two weeks post retirement and a short spell have seen this boy pick it all up in his stride. The first week is spent on ground work and lunging, teaching the horse to find a rhythm and balance and be comfortable in a new work environment. In the second week we introduce some free jumping and basic education on the flat. The free jumping is hugely useful in determining a horse’s natural... ability and technique and also their attitude to trying new things. In the first few weeks flat work, we like to see them moving forward, finding their balance - we must keep in mind that race horses are worked on a large track in a straight line; so the concept of arena work needs to be introduced to them; and maintaining a nice rhythm. Aquatic is right on track with his training and we are very excited about his future! See more

05.01.2022 Have you seen our latest news?We are excited to announce we have relocated!

05.01.2022 I currently have a few vacancies for training available. We specialise in young horses and off the track thoroughbreds. I like to work one-on-one with owners a...nd their specific needs to develop their riding skills with their horses. We have had numerous young thoroughbreds retire from racing and come through our training program and into their new careers as well started, well educated and successful individuals. Having come from a racing background, and a successful competitor in Eventing, I can help you to produce your horse and introduce him correctly to his new career. We also take client horses for sale! Please feel free to call on 0416728983 or pm me.

04.01.2022 It's Triequithon time again!!!

04.01.2022 My thoroughbred that has been off the racetrack for just over a year. Schooled and brought into the showjumping world.

03.01.2022 Here is a special one The second of our boys to start their retraining is Of The Realm aka Donny. A 5 year old, 16.1hh gelding sired by Excites, out of Ready to Reign (More Than Ready).... Donny wasn’t exceptionally talented on the track, bless him. Four starts for no wins and a staggering $750 prizemoney meant that Noel and Emma Mayfield-Smith decided to retire this stunning gelding young and sound and ready for a new career. I had the advantage of riding this horse on the track so I knew he had a fair few qualities we would find desirable. A nice canter and I found him a lovely ride Donny has had a few weeks work already. All our OTT horses start with groundwork and lunging. This is extremely helpful as it helps them learn balance. It also comes in handy for the first few comps when you want to familiarize them without having to ride for hours. Once they have started their initial training, we will introduce them to free jumping. Where we can see if they have any natural talent. Turns out Donny really does have a lovely technique and attitude.

03.01.2022 Have you checked this out?

02.01.2022 Why do I love thoroughbreds so much?... It’s hard to know where to start. But having horses like this fellow is probably the best example of their trainablity,... natural talent and willingness to adapt to new things. Gunbarrel Highway recently retired from Racing and has been in work with us for a few weeks; this being his first week under saddle in his new career. He has such an unflappable nature and willingness to attempt new tasks. The thoroughbred is smart, athletic and has a real work ethic...Makes working with them such a pleasure. Love all my off the track unicorns #ott #thoroughbred #eventerforthefuture #retiredracehorse #racehorseretraining

02.01.2022 Promised myself that I wouldn't rant today.... Red Cadeaux is happily eating grass and will be treated by the best professionals in the industry, then retired ...to a paddock to live out the rest of his days. As in; HE'S ALIVE. Athletes at all walks of life sustain injuries and sadly, some die doing what they love. Get over what you think you know about racing and get the facts. I can bet you that each runner in the Melbourne Cup has trainers, strappers and owners surrounding them right this minute and tending to their every need. They will be getting more care at this present second than you probably provide your paddock pony in its life. There are some bad seeds in the industry; no doubt. But guaranteed they aren't the dedicated and passionate professionals that saddled their beloved steeds up for a crack at one of the most thrilling, history steeped, sentimental and champion building staying races in the world. Well done to every single connection to this years race, these days you have to be brave to deal with the barrage of rubbish that falls from misinformed and educated mouths, leading the horse that you love out to do his job; that he wouldn't do if he didn't want to. Massive congrats to Michelle Paine on being the first female jockey to snare the prize!
