23.01.2022 This Week In Real Estate Australia In Top 20 Global Growth The Australian housing market is ranked in the Top 20 globally for growth, according to the Knight Frank Global House Price Index.... The half-year ranking, which tracks the movement in residential prices across 56 countries and territories worldwide, confirmed Australian property prices had increased 6% in FY2020. The position is 37 places higher than last year and puts Australias ranking at No.19 globally. Head of residential research Australia Michelle Ciesielski says: While annual price growth in Australia has fallen slightly from the previous quarter, growth is still positive and 1.4% higher than the average annual price change of 4.7% across the 56 countries and territories tracked in the index. Australia has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic better than some other countries and territories around the world, with the length and severity of the lockdown not as strong, which partly explains its stable performance. New Zealand was the best performing country in Asia Pacific, with growth of 9% over the past year.

17.01.2022 This Week In Real Estate More Australians are living in apartments, with one in five now residing in strata-titled properties, according to a new report from UNSWs City Futures Research Centre. Since being introduced in Australia in 1961, strata title property ownership has grown to almost 3 million today. In 2015 the number of new apartments overtook the number of new detached houses for the first time in Australias history.... This increase reflects the population growth, especially pronounced in the larger urban areas, as well as government policies to promote urban consolidation that is, building up, rather than out - within existing urban areas, says AssociateProfessor Hazel Easthope who led the project. Alisha Fisher, CEO, Strata Community Association Australasia, says, The data shows just how important strata-titled living is to Australia as people place increased value on access to their places of work, shopping and entertainment precincts, and recreational amenities either within the surrounding community or the strata complex. 15.01.2022 This Week In Real Estate HomeBuilder Boosts New Home Sales Sales of new homes have risen significantly because of the Federal Governments HomeBuilder stimulus package, according to Housing Industry Association analysis.... The onset of the pandemic in March saw the new home sales market and consumer confidence fall drastically. But in the two months following the June announcement of the $668 million grants package, sales numbers rose 64% compared to the two months prior. Chief Economist at the HIA, Tim Reardon, says the $25,000 grant to eligible new residential homes, together with the improving health conditions and easing of restrictions across most jurisdictions, caused confidence in the market to improve. WA is the biggest beneficiary of the grants program, supported by affordable housing and additional state government assistance. Its sales have risen 171% since the June announcement. South Australia was another strong performer through the period, recording a 142% increase, followed by Queensland (up 42%), Victoria (up 40%) and NSW (up 10%).

05.01.2022 The Week In Real Estate Its Cheaper To Buy Than Rent Prospective home buyers with a secure job who have saved a 20% deposit are better off buying than renting in most of the capital cities, shows research from RiskWise Property Research.... Calculations by the property risk assessors show that principle and interest repayments are lower than rent in all the capital cities except Sydney and Melbourne. The research also found that interest-only repayments for both owner-occupiers and investors were also lower than the annual rental cost in most areas. In many areas, rent money is dead money, says @RiskWise CEO Doron Peleg. When it comes to houses, the preferred dwelling option in most areas of the country, in many cases it is cheaper to buy than rent, Peleg says. If you buy a house you can start building equity, particularly when you take a long-term strategic view, and if you are in a good position to negotiate well and buy a Grade A property that will serve your family for many years to come.
